Early Days
Avec was born during the Great Wave of Finns on the 10th of September, 2008. Instead of moving to Norway-occupied Finland, he decided to make a living in the United Kingdom, a country renowned of it's politics, culture and society. For the first month, Avec chose not to get involved in day-to-day politics and activities of United Kingdom, but instead he chose to read and learn the basics of the game. This proved to be a good choice.
Military Career
In October 2008, the Ministry of Defence published a recruitment article calling for citizens to join the reserves. Avec, keen on reading the media, noticed the article soon and decided to apply for reserves. Few days after applying, Funky44, the Minister of Defence contacted Avec and told him he was assigned to Squad A2, Malta_1990 as his squad leader. Despite joining the reserves, Avec saw very little action at that time because the wars were banned in-game. That however, was about to change.
In November Avec reached strength 5.0, which meant he was applicable to UK paratroopers, the elite of UK Armed Forces. He applied straight away and got assigned to Platoon D, this time getting Hammybear as his platoon leader. Straight away after joining the paras, Avec was transferred to Argentina, to defend the country from impending Indonesian attack. However, the wait there was short, as the paras were called back two days after to fight for Spain in a war against France. It was not long till a conflict now known as the French Toast began - the second war in the UK history.
After the war against France was over, Avec, alongside fellow paras, moved from country to country, fighting for UK and it's allies' gathered interests. There Avec fought fiercely, causing massive amounts of damage on the enemy forces and gaining a fearsome reputation amongst his foes. In February 2009, Avec was promoted as the new Platoon D leader, a position which he held till the end of June 2009.
The beginning of World War III began a long night for many paras, as Avec and many others were stationed in Romania for months. Fighting against PEACE forces day and night, the sunny days of old in the UK became but a distant memory. During the Romanian war campaign, Avec participated in several black-ops missions. From assassination attempts to sitting in negotiation tables, there was little Avec had no impact on. After the seemingly endless war ended in May, Avec was called back to UK, a place he considered home.
Role in Politics: The UK
Despite having a military life, Avec participated in day-to-day politics of UK too behind the scenes. Being a supporter of international ambassadors between countries, Avec joined the newly started ambassadorship programme in January, and got assigned as ambassador to Finland and Sweden. Keeping the position in high value, Avec kept contact to both countries and reported back events from those countries to UK regularly. He considered the role of ambassadors to be vital in the interaction between countries, and felt frustrated as the programme never reached it's full potential.
In February 2009, Avec tried to increase public awareness on the importance of ambassadors by writing extensive and media-sexy articles about life in Finland and Sweden. The articles were loved by the public in all countries, and they were top rated in the media for days. Unfortunately, the articles did not have the effect Avec had hoped for, despite initial interest to write similar articles by other ambassadors. He tried the same again in March, by writing a war reportage on the multinational exercise Anvil '09 between Finland and Norway. The article received international attention, but yet again, the potential of ambassadors was not seen by the public.
In January, Avec began participating in party politics too in the ranks of UK Reform Party. First, only making contact with party actives and learning, he quickly got into making and designing party ideals. He took upon himself the role of maintaining public relations for the party, before the official role of Public Relations Director was established. Because Avec didn't have time to commit fully to politics due to his military life and other commitments, his work was done mostly behind the scenes. Writing articles, advising on manifestos, giving feedback and trying to improve party activity, his deeds remain mostly unknown to the public.
In April 2009, a shadow cabinet was founded inside the party. Avec got the role of Public Relations Director - a job consisting of maintaining party visible in the media through means of articles and forum threads. At first this was an easy job, the party had just had a surge of activity and new members and the party was in the spotlight for weeks at that time. However, later the role became hard. The activity rated in the party plummeted again, and Avec noticed there was little to nothing for him to write about. After disastrously handled CP elections in May and June, Avec decided to resign from the role of Public Relations director. He was however elected as congressman in elections of 25th May, so his contribution to the party suffered very little.
During his term in the UK Congress, Avec drove fiercely ideals of transparency and communication. For example, he did not see why topics like tax discussion, which affect the every day life of the country, were kept secret from the public for no reason. Also, he paid interest in trying to improve communication from government to congress, by proposing amendments to congressional procedures.
Avec decided to apply in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June for more important role, as ambassadors were not utilized properly. He was assigned as underminister, tasked to maintain relations with Nordic countries. The task was not easy, as the third Sweden-Germany war had just ended, and the relations between UK and Sweden were uneasy. Also, Finland had just waged a war against Latvia, which created tension between UK and Finland as UK had signed an MPP with Latvia. After successfully negotiating with all parties, Avec managed to strengthen relations between UK, Sweden and Finland. Avec saw this kind of work exactly what he had in mind for ambassadors, and felt disappointed as ambassadorship programme was canceled in June.
Modern Days: Involvement in Finnish politics
After spending a term in Congress and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Avec decided to take a step back and look at his options. He saw he had three choices: Either continue a life as a para, begin a life in politics, or start something new. After spending seven months in the military, he saw no room for advancement there. As for politics, he had seen the ins and outs of politics in the UK from all perspectives, and considered a commitment to political career at that time futile. Because of these, and some other motives, Avec decided to move to Finland and begin a new life there.
In Finland, Avec began a quick rise in the community. He joined the main party there called Liberaali Edistyspuolue (Liberal Advancement Party), and ran for congress on 25th June, 2009. Maybe because of his past articles about Finland and its adventures in world scene, Avec gained a lot of support from the Finnish community and he received 4th most votes in the country.
July 2009 marked the beginning of Avec's political career in Finland. Avec was chosen to represent the Republic of Finland in the international scene as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs. Despite being in a small country, the task of a Minister of Foreign Affairs proved not to be so easy as one might imagine. In July, Avec was tasked to create relations with Latvia, a country from which Finland had recently acquired two regions. This had created tensions, as Latvia was supported by PEACE countries, most notably Hungary. 12th of July saw a massive battle between Finland and Latvia, and it marked the beginning of a new World War. The day visualizes the job of a Minister of Foreign Affairs well, and it is fully described here.
During his stay in the office, Avec reformed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He finally had a chance to execute his plan for ambassadors, and he began the transformation of ambassadors into targeted Foreign Ministers, who are tasked to represent Finland in day-to-day tasks for their target countries, and maintain contact with local governments.
Avec's rise in Finnish politics continued in August. This time he was appointed as the Minister of Defence. During his term as the Minister of Defence Avec faced the challenge of reforming the territorial army organization, creation of a new Field Marshal Division plus of course the challenges of World War III. During the first week as the Minister of Defence, Avec had to do now what he feared he might one day have to do: Fight against his former country, the United Kingdom. The eUK had occupied five Canadian regions, and because of that Finland had become an enemy of the eUK.
On the 627th day of the New World, Avec staged an attack on the eUK occupied region of Newfoundland & Labrador, and after a fierce fight, the region was liberated. The campaign to free Canada ensued, and two weeks later, on 636th Day, Nova Scotia was liberated also. Even at this point, despite heavy Finnish propaganda present in the British media, no one had connected Avec to the battles. However, two days later, during the battle to liberate Alberta from British occupation, Avec got caught. His former friends deemed him a traitor for fighting against the eUK, which Avec regretted. He watched his former friends fight desperately to hold the region, and with conflicting feelings, he ordered an attack to liberate the region.
Regardless of personal feelings, the campaign to liberate the eUK occupied Canadian regions was a success. The battles were used to test the new Finnish military organization and order of battle, and victories proved it to be a success. On 22nd of August the Finnish military was put in a test again, when Russia invaded Finland-controlled Nord-Norge. At the time of the attack Avec was in the first real life eRepublik meeting, so he could not organize the defence of the country, but despite that the newly reformed Finnish military triumphed. Finland, with its allies scored 150k damage within less than five minutes.
In politics, on 15th of August Avec was elected as the Party President of the Liberal Advancement Party. As Party President Avec wrote several articles about Liberal Advancement Party's ideology and statements to current events, and organized a party summit in which some decisions about the party were made. Now, after being a congressman, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defence and Party President, Avec was chosen as the official presidential candidate of the party. The decision to support Avec was no secret, and many had anticipated Avec's lift as CP candidate weeks before. Avec won elections on 5th September with massive majority.
Avec's Presidential term: The End of WW3 and the Scandinavian War
As President, Avec carried on mostly perfecting initiatives and programmes started on the previous month. For one, he had seen the Finnish militia had inadequate weapon supply lines during his time as MoD, and as President he improved on that by giving each militia unit its own weapon company. First part of the month saw military combat drills related to North American battles, in which several shortcomings regarding logistics and command line were found. Plans to increase redundancy and supply readiness were sketched and executed, just in time before the region swaps between Finland and Norway occurred, and the great war for Scandinavia began.
First part of the month was fairly quiet for Finland. There were only a few party politics related issues which caused some stir in the country, but other than that, all went on without trouble. During that time Avec initiated some domestic programmes like gathering a list of Finnish companies that can import raw materials to Finland, and published that in government newspaper to help entrepreneurs. In foreign policy Avec carried on co-operating with EDEN countries, and at the end of the month, the treaty of the Brotherhood of EDEN was finally finished. Avec got the honour of being the one to sign the treaty on behalf of eFinland. This event formalised Finland's membership in EDEN, and made EDEN a formal alliance.
Avec had thought that his whole term would be as boring as the first part, but in that he was mistaken. In the second half of his term he was asked to swap two regions of Finland to Norway, who could then carry on blocking Russia and giving initiative to USA in North American battles. Avec agreed, and the rest is history. Russia was defeated in North America, and later it decided to attack Scandinavia as revenge. The rest of Avec's term was fierce fighting against Russia, in a war now known as the Scandinavian War. The war was one of the most convoluted ones to date with region swaps, blocks, resistance wars and simultaneous attacks on same regions, which made the public confused on what was going on in Scandinavia. The whole war is covered in Avec's article Scandinavian War - A Short Summary of What Happened.
After Avec's presidential term, he decided not to take active role in politics next month due to real life busies. He instead returned to his roots by applying into the military, where he got assigned into a new unit called the Northern Brigade consisting solely of Field Marshals.
Back to Square One
After taking one month's leave from administrative duties, unlike many other former presidents, Avec returned to doing grass-level activities. He was first assigned as the Minister of Public Relations in Kuhaa's government, and soon after a Squad Leader in NTJ. However he didn't get to be long a squad leader, as he was fast promoted as the Commander of NTJ, which effectively made him the Vice-MoD of the Finnish Defence Forces.
