The Early Years
Freeman was born in Seattle, Washington, and from the time he was a child, he had a strong interest in theoretical physics. After seeing some teleportation experiments, teleportation and its applications became Gordon’s obsession.
MIT
Gordon studied theoretical physics intensely at MIT. His thesis was called Observation of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Entanglement on Supraquantum Structures by Induction Through Nonlinear Transuranic Crystal of Extremely Long Wavelength (ELW) Pulse from Mode-Locked Source Array, and it dealt with a theory that basically translates into “how to teleport objects by shooting a laser through a radioactive material.” He eventually received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics.
Black Mesa Research Facility
Gordon became fed up with the extraordinarily slow progress of scientists in the field of teleportation and so he went into private research. At the time, Dr. Isaac Kleiner (Gordon’s mentor) was applying for a top-secret job at Black Mesa Research Facilities and was in need of assistants. He felt that Gordon was an excellent choice, and so he wrote a letter to the Black Mesa Administrator suggesting that Gordon Freeman to be hired. Gordon was later assigned to the Anomalous Materials Labs at Black Mesa.
Black Mesa
Gordon was 27 at the time that he was hired. Assigned to the Anomalous Materials Labs, he had a clearance level of three. After a cataclysmic chain reaction that caused a resonance cascade in the test chamber, Gordon managed to escape Black Mesa and close the inter-dimensional rift by destroying the Nihilanth, thus ending the Xen invasion. After observing Gordon throughout the experience, the G-Man hired him for unknown purposes other than the fact that Gordon had “limitless potential.”
Life in eUSA
Dr. Freeman teached Advanced Theoretical Quantum Physics (ATQP) at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He also frequently gave lectures on his adventures at Black Mesa, instructing his students to learn from past mistakes and use their knowledge to make the world a better place.
