2012/2013 - Last published articles
Some important changes have taken place since the launch of V1 that have affected the New World. Others will take place in December and the admin would like for all citizens to be aware of them.
Starting the 1st of December, the extra storage of citizens that supported eRepublik in beta will expire. This means that only the first 10 inventory slots will be viewable, inbox will store a maximum of 30 messages and citizens will only be permitted 3 shouts per day.
What you should not forget is that the items from the other 40 inventory slots will still be usable even if they are not viewable. This will help citizens a lot as they will automatically use the products when eating, fighting, moving or increasing a friend's wellness by donating gifts.
Also, no private message will be lost. If you acquire an extra storage pack at a later time you will be able to see your archive of messages again very easily.
Another important change to the New World will be the introduction of the eRepublik of Croatia on the 9th of December. Researchers are expecting more suggestions regarding the regions of the new country.
A major feature added in V1 includes the Organization Account. Our team is working on the requests coming from any Simulated Organization (Beta SO) requesting an upgrade to Organization (v1 Org).
Starting the 15th of December, Simulated Organizations will no longer be accepted in the New World and will be treated as multi accounts and banned. You can request the transfer using the contact form - “others” section – while you are logged in as the SO.
Be assured that if a request is made BEFORE THE 15TH OF DECEMBER, the SO will be transformed and will not be banned.
Concerning the changes that V1 has brought already, researchers would like to point out a few locations on wiki.erepublik.com that are worth acknowledging:
A great weekend to everyone.
Regards, The eRepublik Team
PS: Starting today, Insider will use a logo offered to us by taamu for a week.
eRepublik of Croatia - Zdravo Hrvatska!
The time has come for the Croats to settle in the lands of the New World.
Starting the 9th of December, Slovenia, Hungary and Romania (as it owns new regions) will have a new neighbor – Croatia.
Settlers that request citizenship in Croatia will receive their citizen fee of 50 units in a new currency: Kuna (HRK).
The treasury of Croatia will receive 1.000 Gold and 100.000 in local currency. Also, its first elected president will be granted access to an organization with an HRK account of 50.000 units.
No wars will be started against the new country for a period of 45 days (until the 23rd of January) - the same period for which the new country cannot declare war.
A reasonable level of development should be reached until that deadline expires.
Researchers have already started to work on determining the level of raw materials that will be found in these lands and used in the production of goods.
Help them complete a regions' productivity table by suggesting cities for the eRepublik of Croatia as well as the regions assigned to them.
We welcome all Croats and we send them our best regards. Also, we hope that Slovenians will help with some useful tips about how the Croats can organize themselves as the Slovenians have already lived through the experience of appearing on the New World map in June.
Further countries to be added in eRepublik
Croatia will be the only country added in eRepublik this year, but starting in January of next year several other real life countries will appear in the New World as well. Chile, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Malaysia, Singapore, Colombia, Serbia, Bolivia, Peru, and Uruguay (not necessarily in this order) are for the moment on our list. Of course this list can be changed based on the number of citizens from these countries in eRepublik.
Best regards, The eRepublik Team
(2) Happy birthday eRepublik! Community perspective article
The New World – 366 days of granting citizenship.
In the dawn of eRepublik, two hundred adventurers from planet Earth became the first citizens of the New World. After a week, the number of settlers reached one thousand. As we speak, more than fifty-five thousand are writing the pages of eHistory.
For the first time in eHistory, country presidents and congressmen were elected on the 1st day of December. Since then, twelve general elections have been held in the New World. These days citizens vote for their country's president on the 5th of every month. In the first party elections 100 parties chose their presidents. Can you guess how many parties the New World has after 366 days ? :) 366 parties. When the local elections were held for the first time, 181 mayors were chosen, one for every region. Starting this month, 520 regions will be represented in Congress by one or more citizens that will be elected on the 25th day of each month. If you are one of the candidates, don't forget to call your friends. The unemployment rate was such a big problem in the beginning that the president of the eUSA at that time, Korbin King, created the first bank in eRepublik on the 15th of December. It’s purpose was to support the economy by giving loans to the citizens that wanted to launch start-ups. Currently, about 6000 companies fight over human resources. Fierce fights were also carried out between nations. For land resources, for different political views, for independence or just for fun, wars represent an important part of eHistory. There were never any recorded casualties, not even in the first New World War when 17 countries were involved, only wounded citizens. This is very strange because in the 10 independence wars alone there have been more than 75000 fights. War brought important changes to the geopolitical configuration since the dawn of eRepublik. But not just the God of War visited the New World. Cupid also made his presence known and on 17th of March when his first two victims fell in e-love: Cristesco (now known as Cristi Badea) and Elena.Coman got married. Since then, the virus of love spread all over the New World. Shortly after, on March 30th, a group of citizens returned to planet Earth for the first eRepublik meeting. It took place in Bucharest, Romania. Since then eRepublik meetings have spread all over the real world and the next one will be this Friday in a local pub in Bucharest where all the eRepublik team will be joining.
Let’s continue this journey together.
Happy birthday to all of you, The eRepublik Team

(1) Happy birthday eRepublik! Team perspective article
One year, wow... what a journey! Today we'll do an analysis of how our team looked when Beta was launched versus how life is at our offices today.
From a tiny room in the Bucharest office that we had when we launched eRepublik beta, to an entire floor for the main headquarters and an office in Madrid.
From one of the famous laptop-made videos by Alexis, to a video made by George with a professional video camera. Here is the beta video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvVvdKSzU4g as well as the one created a few hours before the V1 launch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeUZQ7L86og
From the five team members we had one year ago, to more the than 25 that we have today.
From only one team member that could play soccer, to an incredible team (that's what they think anyway) of five players. We're competing against the Electronic Arts soccer team in a local championship composed of other companies.
From only one girl on our team, to four girls. We know that we can do better in this area.
From just a crazy idea by George, to a winner of the FOWA startup contest (link ).
From the developers using a poor ticketing system a year ago, to using the complete and professional module that we have now.
From one team member recruited from the eRepublik community last March, to a full team of six members. These numbers will increase a lot next year with the new community moderator plan that Cristi is preparing.
From the unbalanced teams we had in Medal of Honor and Age of Empires 2 marathons each Friday evening, to the more than three competitive teams that we have now.
From no broken stuff at the office, to four broken chairs, three smashed notebooks and two wrecked relationships between our staff members and their girlfriends.
We'll be back shortly with an anniversary article in the Insider, but instead from the community perspective.
Hope you enjoyed your time playing eRepublik as much as we did developing it. For sure we are here to make your future eRepublik experience better.
Best regards, The eRepublik Team
We are just a few hours away from celebrating 1 year of eRepublik.
For this occasion an “anniversary wall“ will be ready for you. Every citizen of the New World is invited to post a message to the eRepublik Team and we hope we can keep the party atmosphere just like the one we had these days in our office.
A new present for you will be live tomorrow and it represents the new country budget improvements. Along this new update, we've decided to open a topic on the eRepublik forum were we will announce any other updates and new features that will appear in the New World. So check the posts in the topic to see what will be new in eRepublik.
Thank you for your support, The eRepublik Team
The new Congressional election system and war module are now live
The details about both features can be found in these previous articles: Improvements War Module Division of congress members Congressional elections improvements
For more details or if you have any questions, please post a comment to this article. Someone from the team will answer to your requests
Extra storage gift
In the spirit of the 20th of November festivities the extra-storage feature will continue to be active throughout the entire month of November for all eRepublik beta citizens in reward for their support and feedback.
This means that until the 1st of December, inventory will still sustain 50 items, inbox storage will be unlimited and 10 shouts per day will be allowed.
Starting the first day of December, only 10 inventory slots will be accessible, inboxes will store a maximum of 30 messages and citizens will only be permitted 3 shouts per day.
But don't worry, even with the new inventory having space for 10 items, if you have more than 10 you will keep them all until you consume or donate them. The only constraint will be that you won't be able to receive/buy more products until you have free inventory space or until an extra-storage pack is acquired. Rest assured that if an extra storage pack is acquired before the 1st of December that you will then continue to keep the extra inventory space and its other benefits.
Also, try not to fill your inventory just with diamonds, stash some weapons too, just in case. We're sure you wouldn't enjoy being pushed into no man's land or having to hide in the underground (see the picture).
Best regards, The eRepublik team
20th November – One Year of eRepublik
Next week, on the 20th of November, we will be celebrating a year of eRepublik.
The first day after the launch of eRepublik, about 200 users from all corners of the world (Europe, America, Australia) had already registered in eRepublik.
Nowadays, over 50 thousand citizens interact in eRepublik leaving their footprint in the New World.
As we speak, Russia is fighting to regain its independence from Norway. The first Russian Independence War was started in the Volga-Vyatka Region. The conflict of interests brought even the forces of ATLANTIS and PEACE into the battlefield.
After many hours of rough fights, an official 48 hour cease-fire agreement was signed. This time it was deemed necessary for the Norwegian Congress members to debate regarding an Independence Contract.
Meanwhile, a demilitarized zone was established in the conflict area that will be active until Congress comes up with a decision. Once the contract is accepted, Norwegian forces will no longer be able to oppose Russian independence. Revolutionary party members have already been instructed to move to Volga-Vyatka in order to be a part of Russia when it regains its country statute.
If the measure does not pass in Congress, both sides will resume fighting and any further negotiations will be made only following the war.
While waiting for the conclusion of this war, we would like to hear your ideas regarding how we should celebrate the first year of eRepublik.
Thanks for your support, The eRepublik Team
Mutual Protections Pacts in the New World
We’ve heard a rumor that Ares, the God of War, intends to enter the New World transforming every border into a battlefield. This is based on the chaos predicted for the 14th of November when Mutual Protection Pacts (MPP), started on the first day of V1, are supposed to expire.
But if Ares is really going to pay us a visit he will have a surprise when he finds that it is pretty difficult to force a free-for-all world war. That's because Mutual Protection Pacts can be proposed and voted for continually before they expire.
Portugal already made this step and now has a two-month MPP with Brazil.
Make use of this feature and forge your alliances now. Especially because in V1 even the attackers' MPPs can be activated when a counter-attack starts against them. Take into consideration that MPPs will NOT be activated for a region in which an Independence War can be started (a region that in real life doesn't belong to its eRepublik owner).
Important updates: 1. Human resources filters function as they should 2. Quality filter in Marketplace is now set by default to “all quality” 2. Shouting on Internet Explorer is now possible 3. The wars from country page are correctly displayed 4. Income tax is now taken from the citizen or from the companies when collecting 5. Solved problems that occurred when using "next pages” and filters 6. All the posted offers are now available for viewing from "Show my offers" page in exchange market 7. All slots from the inventory can be used in donations 8. The “best of” info is updated more frequently
Fun fact: Did you know that besides the daily Food script, that we also have the daily Death script (this script checks your wellness daily and if your wellness level is 0 your citizen will die). The developer that worked on the Death script is the one who also created the war module. Pretty creepy guy. It will be easy for us to decide who will develop a possible graveyard industry in eRepublik.

These elections (the first ones in V1) were a challenge for all the old and new politicians of the New World. Some of them managed to win fairly easy because they were nominated by more parties (for example: gonde in Iran who had the support of the seven parties), while others had great competitors.
Along with these elections some old players got the presidential seats in order to use their experience to lead their citizens: Siddy (Argentina), n3m0 – Indonesia (we are curious how he will manage the presidency and his news agency in the same time), 5n4keyes – Ireland, Antonio Fonti – Japan, giles – Mexico, AgentChieftain – Pakistan (Dio is busy again? :D), Dishmcds – UK (with his 2 months experience at the leading of the USA) and Benn Dover – USA (he always manages to bring constructive suggestions and strategies) .
Congratulations to all winners and thank you all for your support, The eRepublik Team
Improvements – War Module
The New World's environment has changed due to the wars that have been fought. Some countries have even perished as others have expanded. Academies were funded and military tactics evolved.
Who declares wars? A country president can propose a declaration of war that would then be debated in Congress. The costs for declaring a war are 200 Gold plus an amount of Gold equal to 10% of the citizens able to fight (having at least 25 experience points) in the attacking country.
If the proposal passes, the presidents of the countries involved can choose which regions to attack according to their strategy and budget (attacking a region costs 50 Gold plus 25% of the population in the enemy region – this fee is also used for starting resistance wars). Read more about how regions can be attacked here.
Breaking lines of defense instead of destroying walls Once regional productivities were established, it became obvious that it was vital to control country borders. Defenders can no longer rely only on their personal wellness and strength, so fortifications are needed for securing what might be a future battle zone. In times of war, every inhabitant contributes to a region's fortification with 100 defense points (see formula below). Conquering a region is not an easy task as it requires taking out every line of defense: - Border area – covering the area which represents 80%-100% of the defensive points - Rural area – 60%-80% - Suburbia - 40%-60% - City - 20%-40% - Administration Center - 0%-20% Once the Administration Center is taken over, the defenders’ only escape would be to hide in the underground. If after 24 hours of siege, attackers don't manage to entirely break the defense, the counter force can secure the region by pushing attackers behind the borders into no man's land. Conquering or defending every line of defense is not the only way of ending a battle in a region - negotiations for peace can be made at any time and presidents can retreat their troops in order to show good will.
Researchers developed defense systems to increase the potential of these fortifications:
Defensive points of the region = (Defending Region Population * 100) * (1 + Defense System Quality / 10) These defense systems add 10 % to the total defense points of the region for every quality level. Presidents can propose to Congress the acquisition of these buildings depending on a country's strategy.
Soldiers Higher military rank grades will be gained based on the force (damage) inflicted in the fight, and no longer on the super-fights. Don't worry, the transition from super-fights to total force will not affect the rank of soldiers in the New World.
Our congratulations to the generals of eRepublik: Blink-az, Melkion, Alucard Bloodlost, Alex Craciun and Pier and to the first Field Marshal of the New World: smif.
These changes will be applied in the next two weeks with 48 hours of notice.
Special thanks to Creos for his suggestions and a big thanks to all of you for your feedback, The eRepublik Team.
PS: Obama is the choice of the New World with an astonishing 80% of the votes from more than 800 voters. PS 2: The productivity bonuses in all domains that were added in V1 will be removed starting tomorrow. The raw materials crisis is over and now we can get back to normal productivity values. Find more about the new productivity formulas here.
Nov 5: First V1 eRepublik presidential elections
Why should I become president? A president is an elected leader that should embody “the spirit of the nation” for the nation itself and the world. Having the role of chief public representative includes personifying the continuity and legitimacy of the state, as well as exercising the political powers, functions and duties granted to you.
What military powers does the president have? As a leader of the military forces you can choose which countries should be treated as enemies and at what time the army should march into a region to conquer it. It is also in your power to propose and sign peace treaties as well as mutual-protection pacts.
What are the other executive powers of the president? As the head of state you can influence citizens’ lives with your proposals and decisions. Therefore, you are the one who can propose a trading embargo when you find it fit. Also, a region's development is in your hands. It is up to you to decide which regions should benefit from better health care. A higher quality hospital will certainly bring many citizens to a region that holds it. You may also give citizens a greater sense of security by proposing the installment of a defense system in their region.
What duties does the president have? Maybe the most important and challenging task for a president is to collaborate with Congress. That's because in V1 almost all the laws that a president can propose depend on Congress’s approval. Besides this, as a public representative you must look after the life of your citizens. As president you have the ability to talk to the masses so that you may have easy contact with each of your citizens. When the economy needs it, it is your duty to vote for setting a new citizen fee and also a minimum wage to ensure your citizens a high quality of life. Don't forget to make sure that the country you rule always has enough money in the budget. You can do this by voting on decisions that concern changing the taxes or making donations from your country treasury.
Rule your country with intelligence and justice. If your country’s citizens start to think that you are no longer wanted as the living national symbol of the state, then they will let their congressmen know and you risk an impeachment.
What do you have to do to become president (requirements)? In order to be a candidate for the presidential elections you need at least 200 experience points (level 14) and you also need to be nominated by one of the presidents of the top five parties in your country (of course, if you are one of these party presidents, you can nominate yourself for presidency).
How do elections take place? On the fifth day of each month, the presidential elections take place in eRepublik. You will need to visit the voting polls in order to see the list of the five presidential candidates from your country. It is there that you can place your vote (if your experience level is at least 6) as your mind (or heart) tells you to.
Good luck to all candidates, The eRepublik Team.
PS: The fact that the first eRepublik V1 presidential elections are on the day following the USA election day (Nov 4), is of course just a coincidence. It would be fun to see your choice as citizens of the New World for the USA election, so here is a tiny poll.
