Jimbojoy originally joined the game in the May of 2009, after playing the browser game Evony, which he has stated that he had enjoyed the military aspect of this MMO, but wanted a more social and political game to play, and found eRepublik through a recommendation on Evony by veteran citizen Will Salmon. After signing up and forgetting about eRepublik over the summer, missing the PEACE invasion of North America that would so define the politics and foreign affairs of his first year in the game, Jimbo started a new account in the September of 2009 and began to play in earnest.
Jimbojoy is a former eUK Country President, choosing to revert to the local form of Prime Minister, and a 10 time cabinet minister in the UK, serving three terms in the frontline Ministry of Home Affairs. He is a long time Mentoring and Recruitment leader, himself defining his main activities as "Finding new players to help, message and mentor, looking after them by offering advice on the game, and on the best opportunities available. We can give guidance on the forums and attempt to retain players but half the battle is in showing people just how much you can do off-site - that's my hardest, but most satisfying job. Come and check us out at http://forums.erepublik.co.uk/ and get involved!"
In the first months of playing, Jimbo witnessed many formative events, such as the Scandinavian conflicts of late 2009, the birth of new eNations such as eNZ and the defence of London (see [World War IV].) After emigrating to New Zealand for a short period, meeting many players who would later help him out and become firm friends, he returned to the eUK and joined the UK forums, a decision he cites as the best of his time in the game. Following on from this, a rapid discovery was made of the phenomena known as Bob Boblo's House and the magic that resides therein. After being blessed as an original Spamdinal, he knelt at the feet of Bob, and rose once to the top of the BBI, a career high. The rest of 2010 passed in a haze of spam and military outings until he witnessed Michael Crookes enter parliament for the first time, as a MP for the then rival UKRP. Inspired by this new wave of congress bringing in the generation, he and Talon Karrde entered congress for the first time in the same month, forming a working relationship around the MoF currency conversion schemes of days gone by, and the domestics brief. This would carry through into 2011, when they were both to become ministers.
In July of that year, Jamesw selected Jimbojoy to be his Minister of Recruitment. His work in the this role supported a mini-baby boom started by his own advertising (using a free £50 google advertising voucher) and by the invasion of Ireland. Over the course of the month over 15 citizens would be recruited to a training scheme, and many still play today - a true recruitment legacy. The most exciting part of the month was the theft of the Bank of England by sitting Prime Minister Jamesw. This was a key in his support of Jamesw being exiled and punished, with Jimbojoy advocating to never again elect one of the greatest sons of the eUK to high office. He would later famously recant this statement publicly, after JW performed admirably in the interests of the eUK and took steps to make amends. This month was pivotal in Jimbo's cabinet career, as it launched him to public exposure, building from his carefully built congressional (parliamentary) brief.
When Temujin94 (a close friend of Jimbo from his BBH days) announced he was running for Prime Minister, Jimbojoy eagerly volunteered, and was duly excepted, as Minister of Home Affairs (a massive promotion) alongside graphics and comedy genius Invalidation, whom together worked to produce what is widely considered one of the most enjoyable, informative and high quality months in the MoHA. Further terms in the domestic ministries were to follow, with sustained appearances as a junior minister throughout the premierships of Kravenn & Thomas765 over into the new year. In 2012, with a good public profile, and excellent cabinet experience, Jimbojoy was selected and groomed by Talon Karrde for the top job, and won the TUP primary for the party's support in the upcoming election. However it was not to be, and in a last "Hurrah" from the UKRP, rival Sir Humphrey Appleby won through to Number 10. Despite this, Jimbo elected to serve as SHA's MoHA as it would help the eUK out just as much as he had hoped to by joining the ranks of world leaders.
2012 also signalled the start of Jimbojoy's career in Foreign Affairs, which was to give him the experience and public prominence that is required when running for President, his eventual (and subsiquently achieved) goal. With several ambassadorial roles to English speaking nations (involving a return trip to eNZ after a two year hiatus) his most important appointment in the diplomatic core was to represent the eUK in Brazil, a nation with whom traditionally had see-sawed in and out of alliances with his home nation. After receiving a brief from Talon Karrde to strike up friendships and hanker for an MPP, he launched a hugely success friendly relations campaign that ultimately lead to the signing of an accord, which for one month saw Brazil support the UK - While Jimbo moved up to the next job in FA as underminister.
After a stellar performance, Jimbo was promoted to the top job in FA, which gave him the much vaunted and rare position of having served as both MoHA and MoFA across the invisible domestic/foreign lines of brief. Serving under the troublesome BigAnt proved to be a challenge, yet he was rewarded by the confidence shown him as RFiest, kept him in his term for a 2nd term. After a month of consultancy across government, and extensive PR and Party canvassing campaigns, Jimbojoy announced his intention to run again for CP. Against fairly split and weak opposition, he ascended to the red chair, and delivered the country from a full wipe by Argentina, handing over 11 regions more than he inherited from his predecessor.
Currently serving with The Legion in the United Kingdom.
Jimbo is a long time member of the Official UK military, which he first joined in V1 in the period where it was known as the Royal Navy, and remained there throughout its 2010 reforms, when it became the British Army. He was assigned to the Royal Artillery, but after a summer with RL activities, two clicked for the Military until the Army became a tri-banded organisation with the re-introduction of a battle wall.
After this change Jimbojoy finally joined the United Kingdom Special Forces and fought alongside them in the glorious period under the command of Bron Avery. On the eUK's entry to the TERRA alliance block, swayed by the unheard of level of supplies provided by the then allied US-EU Military SuperUnit Ultramarines - 2 x Q5 Weapons (at that time almost 10 times the value of fighting materials usually available to soldiers), he joined this MU and stayed on as de-facto 2iC of the 40 Commando MU, owned by high strength tank Smack. With the switch to a pro-ONE stance from the eUK, Jimbo rejoined the UKSF, and would work his way up to CiC at the rank of Major-General until the disbanding of the eUK Military by Prime Minister Thomas765 at the crucial time in eUK politics of the end of 2011 / 2012 start. Following this Jimbo connected with the amalgamated offical government sponsored MU, the BEF.
In late 2012, with the decline of the BEF, Jimbojoy became a member of the elite 12th Regiment of TUP Family for a short while and with the advent of the Armed Forces Group, joined The Legion - finding a community in the 9th Reg. For the present he is content to remain there as captain, but has discussed with his long time friend Rodney Mckay (Legion Command) that when his service is complete, a far more mercenary approach to units is to be applied, with the ex-military commander helping any team that needs organisational improvement. He simply states "The Navy was home, and in a way it still is. I'll kick about forever and remember the glory of my finest hours there. I was the last captain commissioned there, and happiest with the sense of community and it brought to the game."
Jimbojoy is a member of The Unity Party, having joined shortly after becoming politically active in the game. He has been elected to congress as a member over 10 times and with their support successfully ran for Prime Minister in April 2013. His longtime colleagues Temujin94, Mr Woldy and (for a time) Thomas765 have all helped him to be his best for the party that made him a success, with help on running schemes, media series and on building a community.
