Main Page: Dutch Version

We would like to make a Dutch translation of the wiki pages, but how can the language be added as an official language at the main page?

Main Page: Brazilian Portuguese Version

Please, add a link to [PortuguêsBR ] into the Main Page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Reshev Villanova (talkcontribs)

"PortuguêsBR" has been moved to "Main Page/Português" --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core have a biscuit 23:03, 8 January 2009 (EET)

I just wonder, how do you do something like that because Sweden could need some more information? --GustaviusSverige 23:18, 8 January 2009 (EET)

If you edit a page with LangMenu on it it will show a list of "included templates", one of which will be PAGENAME/Svenska. Just edit that page, and you'll create a new language! --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core have a biscuit 23:24, 8 January 2009 (EET)

Up/ Down

I was thinking that the Main Page should have a status indicator somewhere, since the game is frequently down for maintenance or the server load or whatever. Here's my idea:

Up

As of Thursday, April 18 2024, Erepublik is currently up.

Down

As of Thursday, April 18 2024, Erepublik is currently down.
Reason: Server Maintenance (Source)

Sticking one of these somewhere (Above the links, in the Welcome box, on Status) in a template would be great. Even better, you can add a bot that queries the servers in the browser (a la moot) that switched the templates automatically.

Just a proposal, but I think it would come in handy. What do you think? --AgentChieftain Flag of the Crescent and Star T / H / E 02:45, 23 August 2008 (BST)

A bot could easily do this work, specially if the two messages are encapsulated, I can write the code. The problem is having the bot running 24/24, a thing I cannot do --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core wanna chat? 09:44, 23 August 2008 (BST)

I can give admins the code needed to automatically update the wiki page when the server is down --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core wanna chat? 14:11, 1 September 2008 (BST)
You can do this easier: just do a php generated picture printing UP into a table with a background picture DOWN.--Debildevil 13:25, 25 September 2008 (PDT)
So all you do is get the admins to upload a picture to the site, and if it can't load the backround (Down) will load? ----Raldios Schwarz-Rot-Geld (TALK|HIST) 00:52, 27 September 2008 (PDT)
I don't think this could work --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core call me! 04:32, 28 September 2008 (PDT)
Why wouldn't it work? Whenever it is in "cool changes mode" any page/pic you attempt to load will just redirect you to the "cool changes" page and if it's really down then ofc pic won't load. It's a good idea, try it. --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 07:42, 28 September 2008 (PDT)
Ooooh, ok, I hadn't understood it. Now I have and I think it could be a good idea --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core call me! 07:44, 28 September 2008 (PDT)

Why? Propose a new one (in one edit) and let's discuss.... --Belea2008 14:08, 13 October 2008 (PDT)
I liked the "old" one, not any "new" one, just as I like the old Erepublik, not the new Erepublik.
Rasta Lion Esteban Rasta Lion Delgado Rasta Lion 14:09, 13 October 2008 (PDT)
I don't like the Main Page much right now neither, mainly because it seems a bit more confusing when you are looking for specific information. Eg. Info makes the impression you get to find general info on the game and such, but it only represents/explains the info-option in-game. Maybe for the time being, add at least About and use it as an information page for potential players? DaLe 07:37, 14 October 2008 (PDT)
Solved. Mouse over an item... --Belea2008 17:45, 9 November 2008 (EET)
The entire interface of the game has been changed to be a lot less user friendly and a lot more difficult. Where once I could read about general topics like the Politics page, now I have to search through everywhere for a page that remotely represents what I'm trying to look for. It's an OCD nightmare that I can't get over.

Ugly

The front page looks ugly and bad imo, we should change it to something more colorful and more advanced and hotter with more information, articles, links, images etc. opinions? --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 00:05, 26 November 2008 (EET)

Any ideas? Move the content of the page to a sandbox and let your imagination flow... --Belea2008 00:34, 26 November 2008 (EET)

hmmm I have a small idea on what we could do, how about making the main page a Portal?? Portal:Main or something like that? then after that we can put in information from all over the wiki into the portal and keep it expanding, it will be a somewhat all purpose portal, so it will be fun to read and at the same time not be bland and it wont be the same the next time you log on, just an idea.--Mr.Srachit (talk with me) :awesome: 12:25, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Access

If I arnt wrong I am not allowed to edit the main page, which I find very irritating, the whole page was not even finished when it was put up, I had plans of adding biographies of more important people like, agent, dio, dish etc.

could it be made that Uber Editors have access to the page??? so that I can edit the random box as I need it??--Mr.Srachit (talk with me) :awesome: 19:22, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

free marketing for ereptools.pl?

I'm just courios why is ereptools.pl so much propagated on the wiki? on every connected page there is a link to ereptools.pl while there are other sites too, (like gobba's one egobba.de, aVie's one aviecreative.com/egovernment, BB's one erepublik.ws, or even mine erepmarket.co.cc) which are NOT on the wiki, and as i checked the history of some pages, it wasn't carbon who added his own link to the pages. So why do the wiki contributors give free advertising for ereptools.pl? --Sanya18 05:52, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

how is this related to the main page????????/--Mr.Srachit (talk with me) :awesome: 21:49, 22 May 2009 (UTC) it isn't I responded to the user on his page.--QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 22:29, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

'In the news' Isn't baised at all.

The title is sarcasm, BTW.

Seriously. 'Canada isn't giving up. France is busy losing regions.'

While I agree with both statements, it's DEFINITELY biased.

I think he means like wikipedia does; put a really well-written and complete article on the front page as "featured" to show it off --Emerick 19:27, 8 July 2008 (BST)
That's exactly what I meant. --AgentChieftain Flag of the Crescent and Star T / H / E 14:10, 11 July 2008 (BST)
Sounds interesting but I wouldn't put them on the first page, maybe we should create a new "Interesting articles" page --Cristesco Hai Steaua! bla bla bla 13:58, 14 July 2008 (BST)
Or couldn't you just put a template at the top of pages that are considered well written? With that template you could have a featured category so you wouldn't have to think of updating the page manually. I know this is an old suggestion, but I thought I'd give my two cents, especially as we are discussing the idea of user voting. --~✭βƓЪ✭~ 19:04, 10 January 2009 (EET)
Good idea BGBW --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core have a biscuit 19:09, 10 January 2009 (EET)
Do you have any suggestions on how this template should look like? (We noticed that Template:Certified by admin is not used very often.) Also, what are your suggestions related to the criteria that will be used to mark an article as "well written"? --Admin 18:39, 12 January 2009 (EET)
It could be simple like the Wikipedia star that sits nicely in the corner on the page. We could nominate a page(s) for review and perhaps a topic could be added to the Bar for everyone to vote for whether it deserves an award or not. You could also have a topic in the forum to get the opinions of those with out Wiki accounts, but it is probably safer to leave it to the decision of the admin and Uber Editors (as they have been recognised to know what a good article is).--~✭βƓЪ✭~ 19:13, 12 January 2009 (EET)
As BGBW said. If you want to add a template to the top of the page akin to the rest of the box templates, I can whip one up in no time. You can also add a "Featured article" link within the Welcome box on the Main Page, or at the top of the Bar. I might even be able to have it shuffle between a set of featured articles, based on what I've learned from fiddling with [Portal:Box ].
As far as criteria go, you can base them off of the length of the article, the amount of information present, how well linked it is to other articles, the presence of wiki markup, the effort and teamwork put into the page, and the importance of the article to eRepublik. - –Dr. AgentChieftain Flag of the Crescent and Star PPP! I really don't have much opinion on this....--QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 20:15, 12 January 2009 (EET)

I agree, and how about rewards for featured article creator, so many stubs will be transformed into eRepublik history page. • Mimihitam  • 14:47, 13 January 2009 (EET)

When messing around with a template, I got an idea that might be of use: rating articles the same way we rate food, houses, gifts, and the like! Instead of rating articles with an academic A-to-F scale like on Wikipedia, we can rate articles from 0 to 5 stars.

Some examples (In my opinion, of course):

Quality Article Reason
Q0 Article doesn't exist
Q1 Shahanshah Article is a stub
Q2 Jewish Genocide Article is short, unsourced, possibly biased, trivial, and unformatted
Q3 Dio Brando Article is average in length, poorly sourced, arguable, usable, and under-formatted
Q4 Turkey Article is lengthy, has sources, is relatively neutral, accurate, and formatted
Q5 Embed Article is expansive, well-sourced, neutral, precise, and well-formatted

They can be graded on everything mentioned previously, and then given a final score. Q4 and Q5 articles would be the ones featured. Sysops and Uber Editors can be the ones to grade articles by request on their talk page or the articles can be voted on in the Bar, as BGBW suggested.

What do you think? - –Dr. AgentChieftain Flag of the Crescent and Star PPP! B / C / D / F / P / S 22:34, 30 January 2009 (PST)

If you consider that it could be done easily, go for it. You know that everything can be, and will be, improved at some point. Only one last idea: Featured article criteria - our criteria will be? --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 11:17, 9 February 2009 (PST)
Any update on this discussion? --Admin 13:49, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Article quality

Criterion Quality Reason
Writing Q0 The quality and length of the prose in the article
Accuracy Q1 The validity and number of the sources in the article
Neutrality Q2 The stability and the balance of the views in the article
Formatting Q3 The arrangement use of wiki markup in the article
Relevance Q4 The utility and the importance of the article
Overall Q5 The final score of the article, not necessarily an average
Good idea, but let me put some questions and suggerences: if an article gets 3, it means that it also overcome 0, 1 and 2?..., and what about articles that make it to other levels, but has something left in the middle, as obviously would be the case with the accuracy, neutrality and formatting... and obviously relevance, since overall is more like a "you passed everything, congratulations!"..., maybe formatting should come early, as it's which make this a wiki, but after writing because there are some minimum requeriments to exist, --Icon-Chile.png Purohueso (talk if you want) 06:04, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
