Terrain bonuses:

   * Plain: Air unit +20 defense points
   * Forest: Infantry +20 defense points
   * Hills: Tank +20 defense points
   * City: Artillery +20 defense points 

According to erep wiki

Terrain Defense bonuses (decreases enemy's chance to hit you):

   * Infantry in forests
   * Tanks on plains
   * Anti-Air Artillery in cities
   * Helicopters on hills
