Names

I personally believe that these names should stay original to avoid confusion etc. As you can see for example Pakistan is called Holy Empire of Pakistan yet it's not listed here. What do others think? Same for Template:Countries --Aryamehr talk 21:25, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

I do agree, and trust me it was not my first choice. I am personally against the Theocratic takeover, but I am being as neutral as possible (don't think I am endorsing them in any way). The change of the Swiss flag is very controversial, as are the Theocrats themselves, so the best way I could see is to use Image:Flag-Switzerland.jpg for the old flag and Image:Flag-Theocratic Switzerland.jpg for the new one. However, the way the templates are made means that you must enter {{CountryLink|Theocratic Switzerland}} if you want the Theocratic flag. The old Swiss flag is still wanted on some pages, e.g. Swiss Independence War, so I don't just want to overwrite the Swiss flag with the Theocratic one. I don’t know how else to do it. There is a very firm procedure in place to change a flag - it must be voted on and approved via contract in the forums. If it has not been then it SHOULD NOT be changed in the wiki. Country names also should not be changed in the wiki, simply for clarity (see User:Aryamehr's post above). So, if a flag has been changed, there is no reason to change historical pages referring to the country, like the Swiss Independence War. See here: (Article Contract). This change is official. I also believe the old (RL) flag should be retained for historic use, so that is why I differed between Switzerland and Theocratic Switzerland (which redirects to Switzerland). Therefore, all old pages (Independence war, presidents before Feb. 2009, France-Switzerland War etc...) can continue to use the old flag, whilst current pages (list of countries, any wars from now on, regions) can use the new flag, as long as the Theocrats are in charge. --Martin23230 20:04, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

It's worth noting that "old" versions of flags have been deleted entirely from the wiki in favor of the new one in the cases of both Iran and Mexico. There was a major edit war over the flag of Iran back in August or September, and the ruling was that only the current flag stays. The old flag of "Iran" is still there, it has not been deleted by anybody but it's not used anywhere as it was only used during December when nothing special happened. I never mentioned flags though however I believe what Martin is doing is already good. My main concern was the names. --Aryamehr talk 21:25, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

I know, I could just upload Image:Flag-Theocratic Switzerland.jpg as a new version of Image:Flag-Switzerland.jpg, but this would mean that the old pages would be affected. From what I can see, although it was far before my time, the flag of Iran was changed very early on within the game’s history, and the flag of Mexico was only a (relatively) minor change that has since been reverted. However, I see this as different, since:

1. It is a very big change in design and symbolism.
2. Switzerland has a history, and the old flag should be preserved on old pages.
3. If the Theocrats ever lose control the flag will almost certainly be changed back.

Therefore I think this is the only way to keep both flags and still make it clear what the current flag is. Of course, another debate I foresee would be about Germany-Austria on this page, but that might be best left for later ;) --Martin23230 21:10, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

I understand, and I agree. I think it would be best to ask the Theocrats about the file's name, though; their proposed shortened country name is Theocratic Nation and not Theocratic Switzerland. I can double-check with Dio Maksas and Dio Akira on the name if you like.

I agree with Aryamehr, but if the wiki contributor, give good explanation, how the take over action happen, I have no objection about change the name and flag, as long as I still understand the name represent which country in real life and also the old flag. Just tell us the process then I can understand it. Just named it as one of the phase in the nation history, but dont change the nation name in the main page. ~ Log 13:11, 03 March 2009 (UTC)

My opinion - name, coat of arms, flag, anthem, etc. changes should be put only in the country page. All other pages that refer to that country should use "Switzerland". --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 14:01, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

My opinion: country page should reflect current state, other pages should reflect "consistent" state:

• Old name
  • History
  • Historical parties
  • Wars
• New name
  • Alliances
  • Actual events
  • People residence

A good idea, it would also work for countries such as Theocratic Switzerland or Germany-Austria, as in creation of these separate entities. However, the earliest I can find info on is Croatia, which was the first added in V1. I don't know what the original starting countries were or when more were added, but I'm sure someone would.

I would add Germany-Austria, but I am waiting to make an icon for it, and I don't know if the flag has been decided on yet. I sent Isy a message to ask.

Can we make that any visitor of this page sorts the list of countries by:

• name of country
• creation date
