Mission Statement

US: The Paper of Record (or "US") strives to be nothing less than "America's Morning Read," a multi-source daily publication of general use of interest to US citizens.

Thank You For Your Interest

(Notice to Applicants)

Thank you for your expressed interest in becoming a contributor to "US: The Paper of Record." At this time we are still accepting applications, and reviewing those we have already received. We will contact all applicants in the very near future regarding our decision on your application, as we hope to begin "official" publication very soon.

While you await our decision, please review the following information regarding the paper's mission, as well as what we expect from our contributors.

"US" intends to be nothing less than "America's Morning Read," a single-source of unbiased information that will bring the reader "up to speed" on the previous day's events. "US" does not intend to supplant any institution's official newspaper, and in fact will link its stories (when applicable and at the request of the contributor) to the source of the contributor's choosing. The "US" will be published daily before 0900 hours EST, and submissions should be received prior to 0700 hours EST for publication. Contributors will not be required to write daily reports, but will be expected to be regular contributors.

Submissions should be brief, timely, factual, unbiased, and of interest to the US reader. As "The Paper of Record," we will not tolerate any propaganda, slander, or libel. The editor reserves the right to edit or refuse any submission that does not meet these standards. Lengthier submissions will be accepted on a case-by-case basis, but may be summarized with a link to the full submission (if it appears elsewhere.)

The "US" editor will not refuse submissions based on the writer's style and, if the requirements listed above are met, will only correct any glaring spelling or grammatical errors. That said, we provide below some examples of the kind of reporting we're looking for.

Presidential News:
Yesterday the US President announced the purchase of 500 Q5 weapons from Resistance Weapons, a manufacturer based in New York. The President stated that the weapons will be put to good use in the ongoing war with Russia, regarding which he again urged all citizens to support in any way they can. Read more about how you can support the war effort here (link to the WH Briefing Room.) –Submitted by Jack Fact

Congressional News:

A bill was proposed by Congress member Dirty Dan (NY) that would raise the VAT on imported weapons from 10% to 30%. The issue was put to a vote, which at the time of this writing stood at 22 "Yea" and 11 "Nay." Congress member Obstinate Annie (WA) led the opposition to the measure, stating that any tax increase hurts the war effort. –Submitted by Watch Dog

Military News:

US forces, led by hero Max Effort, successfully repelled the Mexican invasion into Arizona yesterday. Field Marshal Kill M. All, in his official statement (link) credited the victory to the efforts of the Mobile Infantry, led by General Pat Ton, as well as citizen-soldier volunteers. Soon after the battle a counter-offensive began with a push into Mexico's Baja region. You can read more about yesterday's action in my newspaper, "Give em' Hell" (link.) –Submitted by War Monger

"Noob" News:
Whether you're a dedicated pacifist or a blood-thirsty hawk in RL, as a new citizen you should be aware of the benefit your wellness can receive from a quick post-battle trip to a quality hospital. While every battle deducts 10 wellness points, healing at a Q5 hospital can add up to 50 wellness points. Currently, Q5 hospitals exist in only three states, but more are planned (it's a constant issue of debate,) and there are plenty of Q4 and Q3 hospitals throughout the nation. –Submitted by Noo B. Overseas News:

Poland: President Polka yesterday reaffirmed his nation's close alliance with the US, and vowed to send troops and other resources to US forces fighting off a UK invasion of Vermont. Fearing a hostile PTO by Russian operatives, the Congress announced plans for a primary system to be implemented before the upcoming Congressional elections. –Submitted by Dieter23

UK: Finger-pointing continued yesterday in the aftermath of last week's successful PTO of the UK's second-largest party by Hungarian voters. As a result of the operation, Hun Gree, a former Hungarian Congressman, will decide his party's slate in the upcoming elections. –Submitted by T.N. Crumpetts

North Korea: North Korean president Yoo Kill Mee sat down with me yesterday to discuss, among other items, his nation's decision to remain neutral in the continuing world war. "We have no dog in this fight," Mee said. "We will work with whatever side is victorious to secure peace and stability in East Asia." Read more of my interview with Mee at my newspaper, "East Asian Times" (link) –Submitted by Jon77

Political News:

Libertarian: In a surprise move, all sitting Libertarian members of Congress today announced that they would not seek re-election in the upcoming election. The members cited a desire to serve their nation on the battlefield, as well as the need for "new blood" in party leadership positions, as the reason for their decision. Party President Libby Tarian said in her newspaper (link) that she wished the Congress members well in their new endeavors, and that the party will run a full slate in the next election cycle.

Democratic Party: Party vice president Harold Truman yesterday reported that his party's membership increased 25% over the past 30 days. He credited a mini "baby boom" as being partially responsible for the impressive leap, and admitted that the increase had not yet made the Democratic Party a top-5 party. The party's membership currently stands at 150. Learn more about the Democratic Party here (link to their forum.) –Submitted by The Hefty Lefty.

We hope the above-listed examples give you some idea regarding what we're looking for at "US." Again, thank you for your interest, and be assured that we will contact you in the very near future.

Sincerely, Rex Object
