Ombudsman Role
Establishing this role was part of the People's Communist Party's manifesto. It was approved by Parliament on 5th July 2008.
The Role
- The role of ombudsman involves investigating complaints against General managers raised by individual employees.
- The role of ombudsman belongs automatically to the elected Regional Council President.
- The ombudsman has the power to apply sanctions as agreed by a majority of mayors voting in the regional council.
- Sanctions may include 'fines' through taxation (with taxes reimbursed to all their General managers in the region).
