The Emblem of the UK Ministry Of Defence.

The Ministry of Defence is the United Kingdom's central military administration. All military operations are overseen by the Ministry of Defence, under the command of a minister appointed by the President of the United Kingdom. The current UK Minister of Defence is Tarquin.

History

Formation

The UK Ministry of Defence was formed on December 16, 2007 by President Kaleb to oversee and to collaborate all military efforts within the United Kingdom. Congressman Tarquin was appointed as the first Minister of Defence on February 5, 2008, and military preparations within the UK were soon underway to prepare for the upcoming eRepublik War Module.

The first month of operations consisted of supplying active citizens with weaponry to maintain a strong fighting force. This effort formed the foundation of what was soon to become the UK Army Reserve. At the same time, the first applicants to become a member of the UK Elite Paratroopers were rallied and began to form the structure of the UK's mobile fighting force.

In March of 2008, with the War Module soon to come to eRepublik, the Ministry of Defence, in cooperation with the rest of the UK Government, began to step up its rate of preparation for war. From the first citizens that registered with the MoD came the UK Army Reserve, tasked with domestic deployment for home defence. Also, the chain of command within the MoD began to take shape in anticipation of a wartime environment.

In late March and early April of 2008, the command structure and rank hierarchy of both elements of the UK Armed Forces were finalized and put into motion. Colonel Paddyohale was appointed to the position of Commander in Chief of the UK Army Reserve, while Colonel Tarquin assumed the same position within the UK Elite Paratroopers.

Structure

The Ministry of Defence has divided the UK's fighting force into two separate elements. These elements are:

The UK Elite Paratroopers

The Paratroopers are comprised of a relatively small fighting force assigned with rapid deployment to various conflicts throughout the eWorld in order to defend the United Kingdom, her allies, and interests. As of yet, the Paratroopers have seen no active duty but are expected to be used shortly with the implementation of the eRepublik war module.

The UK Army Reserve

Reserve members form a much larger group of soldiers tasked with providing the bulk of homeland defence for the UK. Consisting of most of the UK’s active citizens, the Army Reserve can be distributed to a point of invasion in times of war. Being tasked with homeland defence, Reserve members may include General Managers, Congressmen, and Mayors.

Command Structure

Each element of the UK Armed Forces has its own, parallel chain of command. The command structure within the Ministry of Defence remains simple and minimalistic. At the moment, the MoD recognizes three ranks:

Colonel: Head of all military operations for a given element of the UK Armed Forces.

Major: Tasked with overseeing a large Company of troops within a country of deployment.

Sergeant: Leads a squad of approximately five soldiers within an area of operation.

Note: The UK Elite Paratroopers do not currently use the rank of Sergeant.

Statistics

Fighting Strength

Currently, the United Kingdom stands at the eighth greatest military power in the eRepublik world. With 470 soldiers, the military maintains an average strength of 3.51 per person.

Army Reserve

The United Kingdom Army Reserve is the larger of the two elements of the UK Armed Forces. Under the administration of the UK Ministry of Defence, the Army Reserve is comprised of a large number of British citizens who are tasked with the duty of homeland defence.

History

Formation

After the formation of the UK Ministry of Defence, the first volunteers were rallied to create an organized fighting force capable of defending the UK. Starting in February of 2008, the UK MoD began to distribute funding for weapons to active citizens throughout the UK in preparation for the then upcoming War Module. This effort formed the foundation of what was soon to become the Army Reserve.

As the date for the war module drew nearer in March of 2008, preparations for war were stepped up. As a collaborated effort between the UK Government under the power of Kaleb, and Tarquin of the UK Ministry of Defence, the groundwork was laid for a much more organized homeland defence. Recruiting was increased and all soldiers began to receive additional funding for tickets for rapid deployment anywhere in the UK.

In late March and early April, the final structure of the UK Army Reserve was completed. Paddyohale was appointed as the first Commander in Chief of the UK Army Reserve, and all soldiers were put into newly formed sections, each in a hierarchal chain of command.

Deployment

The UK Army Reserve is highly organized and is tasked with rapid deployment throughout the UK in response to an invasion. Each soldier is well-armed and is prepared to move to wherever needed.

Structure

The structure of the UK Army Reserve is simple and minimalistic. The structural hierarchy is as follows:

Company: There are currently two Companies within the UK Reserves. Each company is commanded by a Major.

Troop: There are two troops within each company. No rank is assigned to lead a Troop but is instead overseen by the Company Major.

Squad: Each Troop is broken down into numerous squads of approximately five soldiers, headed by a Sergeant.
