Map of Austria

Austria (German: Österreich) is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is bordered to the east by Hungary, the west by Switzerland, the south by Slovenia, and to the north by Poland and Czechoslovakia. Only six original territories are held currently by Austria, and the capital is located in Vorarlberg. Located in one of he most war-torn regions of Europe, Austria is aligned with ONE, and follows the Good Neighbor Doctrine.

A diverse country, Austria is home to people with differing views, and differing backgrounds. In addition to a majority of real-life Austrians, the country plays host to citizens from across the world, who have coalesced into an inclusive and open community. There are currently six parties in Austria, with the largest being the party of President OEBernd, the Osterreich Independence Party.

Austria was one of the original nations added to eRepublik, and has had a long and storied history. Recent history has been marked by a period of recovery after the dual crisis of the treasury theft by President N I K A N, and Italian invasion, in November 2010. After a successful resistance war restored Austria to the map in Vorarlberg, the nation has worked to cope with the shifting of allegiances and alliances that has taken place throughout the world.

After a shortened term by Travis James, who succeeded N I K A N via impeachment, PrinceOfAustria became President for two consecutive terms in December 2010 and January 2011, helping to restore a sense of political stability and allowing new issues to arise. Defining issues of the era included tax policy in response to resource changes, rental agreements loaning some regions to neighbors, the return of other regions, and ongoing tensions with Czechoslovakia. These issues remained in place as JaFe took office in February 2011.

FlagMap-Austria.png Languages

Although Austria is a German-speaking country, due to the makeup of the Austrian community, English is a frequently spoken language due to its status as a common second language for people from around the world. Press releases by the government typically are released bilingually - both in German, and English. While the press also contains articles by citizens in this manner, it is also common for articles to simply be in one language or the other.

50px Communication

The official paper of the Austrian Government is the Bundespressedienst, where press releases are issued. In addition to the media within the game, much communication in Austria takes place on the IRC chat where it is possible to talk in real time to both other Austrians and citizens from across the eWorld.

Austria-population.png Community

Austria has a population of 792 people currently living in the nation. However, due to several regions being occupied, and others living abroad to fight, many with Austrian citizenship currently live outside of Austria. There are 648 people who currently hold Austrian Citizenship. The composition of Austria’s population consists of a majority who are real life Austrians, and others from foreign nations who play the game in Austria.

Despite the diverse backgrounds of individual citizens, a cohesive community has been formed. Along with real life meetings, people frequently communicate through IRC chat. The Austrian Constitution involves the community - through public referendums - in a number of direct ways, requiring votes on all matters dealing with alliances and land rent agreements.

Icon-economy-mic-home.gif Economy

Austria’s economy is geared heavily towards food production - with much of its companies being in this area. Due to the large ratio of companies to population, Austria features a high level of employment - and indeed, companies frequently find themselves having worker shortages. While the low value of the currency makes exporting from Austria easier, the lack of any resource besides deer hinders the export capacity of the economy.

Austria’s political environment is one that encompasses views from across the political spectrum. There are five parties currently, Austria’s largest party is the: Osterreich Independence Party 25px.

While diverse in viewpoints, there is much cooperation between all the parties against harmful political takeover efforts. Instead, they work in favor of legitimate members of the community holding government positions. Citizen participation is highly valued, and governments frequently have reached out to newer members of the community to help in positions and roles.

The Österreichs Bundesheer is the army of Austria. Since October 2009, Austria has had a policy of non-aggression, meaning the Bundesheer has only been deployed for defensive operations within Austria, and in defense of other nations. The army is led by the Minister of Defense.

In addition to the formal army, Austria is host to several independent militias, who work collaboratively with the Bundesheer. Among these are the Szeklers, and Pinguins.

Icon-pact.gif Alliances and MPPs

Austria pursues a policy of non-alignment, eschewing membership in any superalliance. However, it has a close relationship with several of its neighbors, such as Germany, Hungary, Serbia, and Slovenia, all of whom have aided Austria in its effort to remain independent. Austria has 8 MPPs currently.

This country doesn't have any mutual protection pacts at the moment.
