In late 2014, with its population declining, NZ worked out an agreement with [[Peru]] that saw them rent the region in exchange for ensuring that at least one region remained under NZ control. This agreement has remained in force and Canterbury has remained Peruvian territory since.

Canterbury is a region of New Zealand. Canterbury is located on New Zealand's South Island, occupying much of the north and eastern portions of the island. It has historically been the more populated of the two South Island regions. It was conquered by Australia on August 2nd during a war between Australia and New Zealand, after a training war between the two nations escalated. This was short-lived, however, and New Zealand quickly re-took the region.
