History of Norway
This page is about the history of the eRepublik state Norway.
While this is meant to be a just an historical timeline of Norway, the reality is that due to the conquests made early in Norway's history this also covers a lot of the history of Finland[1] and Russia as well. The author makes no apologies though; all the events mentioned below have helped mold Norway and, in some ways, the world, into the shape it is today. Also included are various events of global significance, which are shown with a

2007
The early months may as well be known as eNorway's Dark Ages, as very little documentary evidence remains from those early days. We know little about the first settlers, who they were and where they came from. All we know is that it did not take long for the country to become a world power.

2008 saw the rapid rise of Norway to become one of the preeminent world powers through quick conquest of Finland and Russia. Once completed the country then had to adapt to the booming populations now under its control.

The press in Denmark reports that negotiations between Norway and Denmark for an MPP breakdown. Forconin had rejected the MPP but had 'kindly' offered the Danes protection as part of the Norwegian state. The offer was of course laughed at by his Danish counterpart.

Congress members are becoming concerned about the increasing levels of stealth tactics being using by Pakistan and worry that they may extend into Norway's backyard. Various strategies are proposed, including PTO-ing the small governments of Finland and Russia and supporting Finland in a war against Russia.

inunova becomes the first Finnish member of the Norwegian congress. It is decided (with many dissenters, including kir) that the official language of Norway should be changed to English so that everyone, no matter what their background, can participate in discussions.
The first shots of the Norway-Russia War are fired (Russians call this their Great Patriotic War). Sweden also invades Germany, having previously conquered Denmark. Both campaigns have the same cause: Indonesia is about to sign MPPs with Russia and Germany, creating a claustrophobic feeling in Scandinavia.

Leningrad Oblast and Northern Russia fall to advancing Norwegian troops.

In a massive sweeping advance Norway conquers Moscow and Central Russia, Urals, Volga Vyatka and Western Siberia.

Volga, Central Black Earth and Eastern Siberia regions are conquered.

North Caucasus and Far Eastern Russia are added to the empire.

Kaliningrad falls. Russia is completely conquered by Norway. Norway is now, geographically, the largest empire in eRepublik history.

It comes as a result of the rise of Sovereign Finland, a party whose membership outnumbers Binary Party 4:1. Accusations are circulating that SF wish independence for Finland and for the country to leave ATLANTIS. Sensing defeat at the next elections Forconin and Salve sought to secure Norway's treasury from any possible misuse.
World War I begins as ATLANTIS and the PEACE Global Community go head to head over the invasion of Hungary by Romania.

In a move designed to prevent the problems and confusion surrounding the resistance war in Russia, Salve confirms Finland will be re-established via an actual war rather than continual resistance wars. Battles will be used as training until late in the battle, when Norway will retreat.

Romania declares war on Russia. This attack does not have permission from ATLANTIS. The Romanian president Alex Craciun had, weeks earlier, approached Salve asking for Eastern Siberia and later Western Siberia. Salve refused both requests but confirmed Norway would not get involved in any war between Romania and Russia. His intention was not to give a free hand to Romania but merely to state the reality of the situation: Norway and Russia together would not be able to hold Romania back from any attack. As far as Russia is concerned, this is the great 'stab in the back' that pushes them slowly toward PEACE. All hope of maintaining good relations with Russia in the same way as Finland are lost.

Salve convinces the Romanians to leave Russia independent with one region: Volga Vyatka. Romanian troops start a resistance war in Northern Russia, so they can bypass Volga Vyatka. However, this act was not approved by any member of the Norwegian government (despite what the Romanian media wrote here). It is clear Norway has lost all independent control over the fate of Russia and its remaining Russian territories.

Now with its empire dissolving, and not always at the rate it had wished for, in 2009 Norway had to balance the needs of its own people and the needs of the alliances around it, even if these two aims were not compatible. Meanwhile its government was in constant danger from PTO groups looking to disrupt the slowly disintegrating empire.

Russia, although not a member of PEACE has 6 MPPs with PEACE members in an effort to hold back Romania's advance.

Central Black Earth region is lost to a PEACE-led resistance war. It rejoins Russia.

Far Eastern Russia is secured against a rebellion.

Romania PTOs the elections in Russia sealing Russia's fate. The new president lic_ptg retreats all battles allowing Romania to quickly bring the remaining regions of Russia under its control.

kir submits a counter proposal[11]. She upholds the continued Norwegian occupation of Kaliningrad, Eastern Siberia and Volga but surrenders all other regions to Russia in return for control of Congress and a joint security payment to be returned in May 2009.

Any misgivings Norway had over co-operating with Romania with the dismemberment of Russia, (or rather turning a blind eye to it), is put to one side as Iran, Indonesia and Hungary continue to advance through Asia. Norway agrees to give Urals to Romania so it can launch a counter attack against Indonesia.[[16]]

Norway takes Moscow and Central Russia, Urals and Volga Vyatka from Romania, leaving it free to continue the advance against Indonesia.

Romania takes Eastern Siberia from Norway. This is done without congress's permission, but KristofferAG later explains this as a way Romania can regain the advantage over Iran and Indonesia, and as a result they make good progress through occupied Chinese regions. [17]

Independent Norway is the largest party in Congress. It is led by Marginaldefeat, a Hungarian dedicated, in his words, to make Norway free of Romanian influence and control. Seasoned Norwegian politicians can see the PTO coming a mile away. [18]

Big Brother is fired from his position as MoD. As the owner of Norway's largest Q5 weapons company he was accused of using government funds to run his private company at the expense of the government run Q5 operation. Iron prices had been rising steadily with Norway's supplies in Urals unable to stay competitive. As a result company costs were becoming unsustainable. In an act of willful nihilism Mr Gordon Gekko launches a war of conquest against Sweden. The Swedish president, in collusion with Mr. Gordon Gekko, retreats all battles and by dawn Norway has conquered almost all of its neighbour and is in control of Svealand, Norrland and Sameland, Jamtland Harjedalen, Bohus, Gotaland and Gotland. This action wipes out Norway's MMPs however. UK is quick to take advantage and invades Vestlandet. The battle is retreated, (presumably) to keep up the momentum with Sweden.

Russia takes advantage and conquers Nord-Norge. The battle for Smaland is bugged: it runs on even though Norway was victorious within the 24hr deadline. As a result of this and the successful resistance movement in Norrland and Sameland Sweden is not fully conquered, and does not lose any of the wars stacked against it, even though many Swedish citizens believe this would have been the best outcome for the country.

Mr Gordon Gekko is impeached, as is the Swedish president Per-Otto. In the ensuing chaos Cl4trap sneaks back into the presidential suite and launches the bewildered Norwegian army against Scotland, Nord-Norge and Northern Russia. Nord-Norge is reoccupied but the other attacks open the full weight of the Phoenix alliance against Norway.
Cl4trap is removed from power. With no official elected president Freke is installed as interim president by common consent.
