Role of the Government

In the (United) Netherlands the title Prime Minister was used for the head of the Cabinet. Cabinets were formed after congress elections and the leader of the biggest party forms a coalition with other parties to form a Cabinet. This coalition decided who would be Prime Minister. The government eventually was formed by a majority in congress, forcing parties to work together in coalitions. The Prime Minister as head of cabinet/government became politically more significant in the Netherlands than the Country President.

In late 2010 and still on to today, the Netherlands uses the Presidential Government where the Country President is the formal head of state, government and military. With the Government chosen by the President.
