Mindanao (simplified Chinese: 棉兰老岛), also known as Gran Molucas (English: Great Moluccas), is the southernmost region of the Philippines. The capital city of the region is Davao.

The name of Mindanao came from the Sultanate of Maguindanao, which was established by Sharif Kabungsuwan, a Muslim preacher from Moluccas. The sultanate, at its peak, covered the entire island of Mindanao, thus its name.

Kingdom of Mindanao and Sulu

The Kingdom of Mindanao and Sulu is the first and the only reigning Kingdom in the Philippines. The Kingdom of Mindanao and Sulu is a test run of having a monarchic setting in the Philippines. Though not merely installing a pure monarch government, the Kingdom is just a symbolic body in the country. This introduction of having a ruling monarch in the Philippines was proposed by Ariel David Buena, a Filipino FPM member whose sole dream is to install monarchs in the Philippines since in the the real Philippines, there were no real monarchs since the Spanish Colonizers seized the real life Philippines. The proposal was approved by the 2nd Philippine Congress in the Philippine National Forum.

The first ruling Monarch of the Kingdom of Mindanao and Sulu is Prince Terence I who is officially known as Paduka Maulana Mahasari Sharif Sultan Hashem Abu Bakr Prince Terence I of Sulu and Mindanao.

Since Prince Terence I died last September 12, 2009, he was succeeded by Prince Terence II.

Southeast Asian War Games

Mindanao is one of the locations of the Southeast Asian War Games. Three of the 83 legs of the War Games were fought in Mindanao.
