Template:Monarchy of the Philippines The Monarchy of the Philippines (constitutionally referred to as the Queen of the Royal Family of the Philippine Islands (English) or Lakambini ng Kadatoan ng Mga Isla ng Pilipinas (Filipino), and is also commonly known as the ePhilippine Monarchy) is a constitutional institution, and a symbolic and ceremonial office of the Philippines. The monarchy comprises a reigning King or Queen of the Philippines, their family, and the royal household organization which supports and facilitates the monarch in the exercise of his royal duties and prerogatives. The monarchy is currently represented by Queen Kadayao, and the members of the Royal Houses of Luzon, Visayas, Palawan, and Mindanao.[1]

Origins

There were attempts in the history of the Philippines to establish a monarchy that will represent the entire country internationally. However, all of these attempts did not progress.

Though, there was one constituent regional monarchy in the past. It was called the Kingdom of Mindanao and Sulu which comprises the whole region of Mindanao. The establishment of the monarchy was led by Ariel David Buena and was ratified and put into effect by the Philippine Congress.[2] The monarchy was ruled by King Terence I and his adopted Princes and Princesses. The Kingdom also had its own royal guard called the Royal Pintados. The Kingdom only existed for more than 300 days and only had two ruling monarchs, the other was Prince Terence II. Soon, a civil war broke within the region, with the guerillas calling for the removal of the King and of the members of th Royal Family.[3] The aftermath of the civil war caused the establishment of a new autonomous entity Autonomous Region of the People’s Mindanao, which replaced the monarchy with a civilian-led government.[4]
