The Second Anglo-Irish War was a military conflict between Ireland and the United Kingdom. While the war is currently over in terms of mechanics, it is currently uncertain as to whether the war will resume. The war is the second direct conflict between the two countries, the First Anglo-Irish War being fought in December 2010.

Background

The aftermath of the First Anglo-Irish war caused significant political changes in Ireland, ultimately resulting in its membership of EDEN. Britain on the other hand had joined Terra soon before this, on the supposed basis that Ireland would not be part of that alliance and so would be free game for the British invasion. With the outbreak of World War V, Ireland and Britain found themselves indirectly allied. This was not popular with the pro-invasion factions in the UK, who wanted to attempt to annex Ireland.

At the same time, the Bremen Clubhouse, a troll group from the UK, started a PTO project in Ireland, gaining 5 seats in the Irish parliament in the March elections. This greatly increased anti-British sentiment in Ireland, and beliefs that the PTOers were being backed by the British government were widespread.

During World War V, the British attempted to annex Belgium despite their allies being in trouble. The Irish Citizen Army, an Irish Republican and socialist paramilitary force, sent troops to Belgium to fight against Britain, causing outrage. The Irish Government under Ariovistus condemned the attack, while many in the UK regarded the intervention as official regardless of this fact. Further interventions by the ICA against Britain in Northern Ireland, and during the resistance wars against Serbia within the UK itself further increased British opinion against Ireland, both popular and governmental.

Ireland defended itself by stating that these actions were either not official, as in the case of Belgium, or taken to reduce the threat of British invasion, as in Northern Ireland. The British relationship with Serbia was also a concern for the Irish, one with which the entirety of Terra and EDEN could agree upon. Lastly, extreme tanking by Alfagrem during the UK-Canada training war just prior to these incidents demonstrated that the British populace were very much in favour of destroying Ireland.

The Declaration of War

At the time of the declaration of war, the Prime Minister Mr Woldy was unavailable due to virus problems. Due to misinformation by the pro-war factions within Britain, the Minister for Foreign Affairs launched an illegal vote to make Ireland a natural enemy of the UK, in short, a declaration of war. The vote passed by a strong majority, leading many to believe that it was government backed.

Ireland and her allies were outraged at this. Emerick, President of the United States, declared his country's disapproval with a symbolic natural enemy proposal against the UK, which earned him honourary Irish citizenship. The Canadian government reacted strongly against the invasion plot as well. EDEN, faced with the invasion of a member country and already displeased with the UK's Serbian alliance, prepared for war.

Combat

The majority of the combat in the first phase of the war was entirely in resistance wars. Before the British could act on their invasion proposal, the Canadian and Irish governments had prepared a region swap between them, whereby the Canadians would take Dublin and the Wexford, closing the war and defeating the PTO in a single stroke. The swaps were contested by British forces and PTOers, particularly in Dublin. In addition to this, the United Kingdom Special Forces started a resistance war in Northern Ireland, which is an original region of the British Isles, to return it back to Britain. The Irish and Canadians resisted this. A resistance war was also started in Shannon by one of the PTOers, in an attempt to drain damage away from the Northern Ireland resistance war.

In the end, both Dublin and the South East were taken by Canada, and the war was ended in terms of mechanics. The Bremen Clubhouse also suffered a devastating political defeat in the congress elections as well. However, with the diplomatic situation unresolved, the conflict would resume during the Third Anglo-Irish War.

The UK leaves Terra

Due to what it saw as EDEN interference in Terra and a lack of support for British interests within Terra itself, the United Kingdom left Terra on April 25th. In his statement on the matter, Woldy confirmed his country's alliances with France, Germany, Brazil and Argentina. The article also talked of vengeance against Ireland, saying that the Irish had stopped the return of NI out of spite among other things.

In June, British President Jamesw led the next incursion battles into Ireland, continuing what Woldy had started. The UK now had no worries about upsetting alliances to achieve their aims.

Tactics

When the war began between Ireland and the UK, Ireland proposed a Mutual Protection Pact with both the USA and Brazil and so the UK fought for Ireland and Ireland fought for the UK because if Ireland won then they would lose both the US and Brazilian MPP straight away. Ireland did win and Ireland was on the verge of bankruptcy and another MPP failure would have certainly made their treasury run dry. This time however Ireland voted down the proposals so the UK moved back to the UK to fight for themselves and secure West Midlands.

The UK also won in resistance war in Wales and moved onto Dublin straight after. After the UK had taken Dublin, Canada immediately proposed the UK as a natural enemy and the proposal has been accepted and they will open a second front with the UK.
