Military Service Awards

These have never been used. I move to strike them from the article. Only the first set, though. The Campaign Awards are used. -Wisher, eUSMC

These are currently being proposed on Private Military General Talk, comment it out if you want, but don't delete. I don't feel like recoding all the ribbons again. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 04:45, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
That's fine. I'm posting it here, until the CJCS votes it in. Until then, they're not official.

-Lt. Wisher, eUSMC

As I said, if you just commented it out of the code on the article, it'd save you from porting over to talk pages... - Lieutenant General Jameson L. Tai talk / US Army 04:14, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
FYI: I'm not starting an edit war... the ribbons, shown on the article again, have been approved by Publius to be adopted. - Lieutenant General Jameson L. Tai talk / US Army 09:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
I know, that's fine. It's a little depressing, since we already have enough fruit salad, but meh. And I don't know how to comment it out of the code, so I didn't bother.
FYI it's <!--- to start the comment and ---> to end it - just like HTML. - Lieutenant General Jameson L. Tai talk / US Army 20:16, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Broken Rank Images

Broken images in the military ranks section have been commented out. The files themselves are viewable svgs, however the wiki's thumbnail code breaks them. Submit a bug report, convert them to a different format, or attempt to save them again, at a different setting, to fix the problem. For now, they're commented out, and should remain that way until they no longer break the page. Necros Xiaoban 09:47, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Make sure for new issues, you start a new section instead of butting into an eight month old topic that has nothing to do with what you're talking about. I've already mentioned this on eRep Bar (eRepublik:Bar#Same_Damn_SVG_Errors). - Jameson L. Tai talk/Paramilitary Wing Director of the Church of Valkyrie 08:35, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
Broken svgs replaced with working pngs. The comments on the Bar had been removed, without the issue being resolved. If you'd like to continue fighting this battle with the admins, I recommend you add it your user talk page. Necros Xiaoban 21:08, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Already filed a ticket over 2 days ago... -_- Ticket ID: RCP-830960 - Jameson L. Tai talk/Paramilitary Wing Director of the Church of Valkyrie 00:17, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

NICE!!! You DID IT!!! United States Rangers.png - Jameson L. Tai talk/United States Rangers 16:48, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Atm it's just a simple, single-centered icon on a ribbon. However, if need be, gimme a shout and we can try and improve it... :) - Icon-UK.png John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png talk/British Army librarian 17:36, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Great, well when you get a chance, you should make sure that the number of times the ribbon was awarded gets what types of stars and how many should be added to it. United States Rangers.png - Jameson L. Tai talk/United States Rangers 01:59, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
If you give me some info on your fancy U.S. system, I'll add it in - the British armed forces don't use stars, just the single silver Oak Leaf/Leaves :P - On a slightly different note, whilst we're on the subject of military templates, I was working on this a while back. Lemme know what you think :P - Icon-UK.png John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png talk/British Army librarian 17:23, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
INCOMING WALL OF TEXT

Military Service Ribbons are to award and recognize a soldier's dedication to the branch he or she serves. This ribbon is given every three months to the soldier. For repeat awards (2nd award at the 6th month mark, 3rd award at the 9th month mark, etc), appropriate bronze, silver, and/or gold star may be attached to the ribbon, which are to follow this format:

  • 1st Award N/A
  • 2nd Award 1 Bronze Star
  • 3rd Award 1 Silver Star
  • 4th Award 1 Gold Star
  • 5th Award 1 Gold Star 1 Bronze Star
  • 6th Award 1 Gold Star 1 Silver Star
  • 7th Award 1 Gold Star 1 Gold Star
  • 8th Award 1 Gold Star 1 Gold Star 1 Bronze Star
  • 9th Award 1 Gold Star 1 Gold Star 1 Silver Star
  • 10th Award 1 Gold Star 1 Gold Star 1 Gold Star
  • 11th Award 1 Gold Star 1 Gold Star 1 Gold Star

This means the system was only designed for 2 years 9 months of service... which technically people could do... but rarely with one branch... continuously. United States Rangers.png - Jameson L. Tai talk/United States Rangers 05:16, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Awesome, I'll get this done in the next day or so :) It shouldn't be too hard, just alot of IFs and SWITCHes :P - Icon-UK.png John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png talk/British Army librarian 16:29, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

What to do with a problem like Warrant Officers

Well, the United States Cavalry have 5 now, and tbh, It'd look silly to add 4 more ranks into the main rank chart e_e So what do we do? - Icon-UK.png John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png talk/British Army librarian 14:11, 2 October 2010 (UTC) Take this page for reference on what it'd look like. - Icon-UK.png John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png talk/British Army librarian 15:59, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Let it be. United States Rangers.png - Jameson L. Tai talk/United States Rangers 21:14, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
I added a collapsible table, what do you think? Necros Xiaoban 21:12, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
Smart idea actually. I'll refine it a bit. - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 00:27, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
It looks better now, though its obviously an imperfect solution. It may be preferred to break the rank chart into separate rank charts, enlisted, warrant and officer, with perhaps a link on the warrant chart to information about the United States Cavalry Warrant officer program Necros Xiaoban 23:40, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
The space that would take up might make this inpractical.... - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 23:48, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
I made a go of it, just to show what it would look like, http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/User_talk:Necros_Xiaoban#Military_Ranks It certainly improves readability. I opted to not include branches who do not use the Warrant Officer rank in the Warrant Officer ranks table, as it is needless clutter. Additional space savings could be made by reducing the size of the branch icons in the tables. Each branch's insignia already appears in full size in the article, these should only be large enough to serve their purpose as a visual aid. Necros Xiaoban 02:09, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Marine Corps Commandant Stars

At one point the USMC ranks had a 3 star Lt. Gen and a 4 star Vice Commandant, with a presumed (though not shown) 5 star Commandant (which fit neatly with CJCS being a 6 star slot). I noticed the Lt. Gen rank is gone, VCom is now 3 star and Com is a 4 star rank, as per an edit by Batterytime. Can anyone confirm this? Necros Xiaoban 23:35, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Jameson L Tai standardized the eUS rank system while he was Army XO a while back, as far as I know, so now yes: all Branches have a Lieutenant General and General leading them, and the CJCS hold the rank of General of the Army (GOTA). - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 23:47, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
The point I was making is that the USMC specifically has the ranks of Vice Commandant and Commandant. Vice Commandant was previously held as a 4 star rank, and when I asked sukhoida about it, he informed me Commandant was therefore a 5 star rank. This is no longer reflected in the wiki, and so I wondered if thats a matter of policy with the USMC, or overzealousness on the part of an editor. Necros Xiaoban 02:05, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Was looking back on my older contributions, and found a comment I'd made on the global military ranks article, "It might be worth noting, in the American rank structure the CJCS is a 'six' star general, and VCJCS is a 'five' star general, though I've never seen an actual five star insignia. I'd asked NXNW about it a while back, and he confirmed. By that view, CJCS might be considered a 'senior' national commander, or an OF-12 Necros Xiaoban 05:00, 8 October 2010 (UTC)" This may be where some of the confusion comes from, given that the Commandant is often also VCJCS Necros Xiaoban 02:12, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, now the CJCS is O-11 but with 6 star insignia ( o.O ), whilst the VCJCS has been O-10 for a while now. Have a look at the Joint Chiefs of Staff page for some rank history there. Seems the Marines DID use an OF-11 rank for a while... But yeah, the CJCS and VCJCS seem to usually be Branch Commanding Generals aswell as their posts in the Joint Chiefs. I've never actually seen the VCJCS hold anything over the rank of General :S - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 07:44, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Btw, just had an idea. Seeing as all the ranks actually hold the same grade in the eUS Armed Forces, why couldn't we just display one universal chart for Enlisted, Warrant Officer and Officers, instead of one for each branch? The branch articles have their own rank charts anyway?- John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 18:16, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Because certain branches felt the need to go against the grain. See: USTC enlisted ranks, Cavalry enlisted ranks, USMC enlisted/officer ranks. Get the seperate branches to standardize, and we'd be golden Necros Xiaoban 18:31, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
I know, that's why Im suggesting a single row table, with the ranks in each grade put together. I.e, in the E-9 column, you put the two "standard" E-9 ranks, aswell as the Master Gunnery Sergeant and Chief Master Sergeant ranks. Same for the other grades where there are variants. Just an idea. - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 19:16, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Is this what you're suggesting? http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/User_talk:Necros_Xiaoban#Military_Ranks_Combined Necros Xiaoban 07:11, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
