The U.S. Portugal Study Committee was a Presidential Select Committee mandated by President Scrabman on April 7, 2009. It is headed by Secretary of Portugal Affairs Danylo Halytskyj, and concluded its research favourably on April 27, 2009.

Committee Mandate

According to the mandate of President Scrabman, the U.S. Portugal Study Committee is tasked with determining the following:

  1. National security impact of a continuing Portuguese presence in Mexico.
  2. What can or should be done about it.
  3. How Mexico feels about it.
  4. How Mexico feels about our getting involved.
  5. If we even have enough depth to push them out of Mexico if we wanted to do so.
  6. Cost of such an operation.
  7. Contingency plans if it fails.
  8. How it will affect the successful completion of our War Games.
  9. Whether such a move will have wasted our money if War Games have to be concluded.
  10. What will Portugal do?
