Flags... Give me flags... I really love flags!!!

Dear editors, I am going to propose that we simply remove two templates - CountryLinkNormal and ICountryLinkNormal and that template {{CountryLink}} becomes official for this matter. The reason is quite simple. I have done some testing in translated articles like Volhynia/Polski where this template does some things that CountryLinkNormal doesn't and all also the CountryLink template can do all things that it does in ICountryLinkNormal. So there is no real point in having two weaker versions of the good thing. I would like to hear your opinion. Thank you. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 14:02, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

I agree with this. There is tons of templates that are not really needed. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 17:09, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

On other issue, I have to remind you that discussion about this flags and icons and balls or whatever you want to call them, was held months ago as there are simply to many of this templates that are used. Honestly, there are two more additions (as I am aware) to above mentioned templates and they are {{Flag}} and {{FlagLink}} which for now I would continue to use with CountryLink as they are all different in some way. Also, I would like to hear your opinion. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 14:02, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

We can keep these. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 17:09, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
Keep {{FlagLink}}, and I don't even remember where from ICountryLinkNormal came to wiki. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 17:23, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
Can't we just use {{Flag}} everywhere and "get rid" of those other templates? --Belea2008 21:01, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Do you want to change 3214 pages in order to get rid of few templates? -1 --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 09:22, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
*cough* Code us one :p *cough* --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 23:20, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
I would leave them as they are at this moment as there are far more issues at this moment... I am now creating the list of things that should/have to be done and it is huge. :/ I will remove the Icountrylink at this moment in next few days and everything else will stay the same. Ad least for now. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 14:00, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
I have started to remove ICountryLinkNormal from the pages which will be the last thing for now. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 22:57, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Interesting thing at Country Template

I made in my sandbox a test and it worked! Now you have a direct link to the eRepublik map of that country!

Nice - a problem with the country template: You can't do multi-word names without it breaking :/ see United Kingdom, where we had to use a "-" in between the two words. Any way to fix this? - Icon-UK.png John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png talk/British Army librarian 15:51, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Fixed the UK page. You just need to add link=link to the country page| to the template and it works fine. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 16:15, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

I would but your template was toooo opsesive about McKayRO so the editors will think that they can write that into the country template. And also, from when do we allow personal categories like User McKayRO and McKayRO? --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 22:57, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

New Category?

Hey all. Just wondering... did someone want to create a new category for Category:Game Moderator? Admin have now made them public. It is possible to determine if a citizen is a Game Moderator or not by whether or not their in-game citizen has a red shiled with an "M" in it.

Requesting three articles to be deleted

As the "Minister of Defense" of the newly formed Republic of China (Taiwan), we have never settled down on what we would call our military units, much less three of them. So, following this edit, I'd like to have the following three articles deleted as they are misleading, inaccurate and frankly... wtf?!

I'm leaving Republic of China Armed Forces alone for the time being because even though it's an empty shell, eventually we will have something to put in there, but since we don't know what those unit names are specifically (they probably won't be called Army, Navy, and AF), we need to delete those three up there. Icon-Taiwan.png- Jameson L. Tai talk/Minister of Defense and Director of National Intelligence 01:55, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

You can just tag them for deletion: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/eRepublik:Deletion_policy --Belea2008 08:21, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

To be fair, there's a reason why the eUS Military doesn't have a navy... with all of the "milfgt" calling we don't need a branch dedicated to such an affair. Icon-Taiwan.png- Jameson L. Tai talk/Minister of Defense and Director of National Intelligence 01:36, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Idea for Military ranks?

Just a suggestion, but since literally EVERY citizen page links to the old ranks, can we set aside pages for them? Pages in question are (to make it easy to link to them):
  1. Private
  2. Corporal
  3. Sergeant
  4. Lieutenant
  5. Captain
  6. Colonel
  7. General
  8. Field Marshal

All of these pages should link to somewhere that details what the OLD ranks where, because there are thousands of out of date pages, now :( (again :s) --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 02:12, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Personally I would recommend that these pages all be moved to One: article space, and then redirect all of these ranks to a master Military Ranks article which explains all of them, that way we can just ignore future updates altogether. We should also fix the citizen template such that these ranks listed would no longer internally link to these outdated articles. Icon-Taiwan.png- Jameson L. Tai talk/Minister of Defense and Director of National Intelligence 07:49, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

From a random article

On day 1081, we finally have out strength back, together with some sort of new military formula. Although the old formula remains a mystery with different types of military skills, the new one is relatively easier to guess. After hours of data collecting and analyzing, now we have the following new military formula:

D = ((R/50 + 0.4) * (S + 100)/5 + 10) * Q

D: the soldier's damage R: the soldier's rank factor. You can also look up your rank level here S: the soldier's strength Q: Quality of the soldier's weapon factor. Q = 1 + Quality/5. If the soldier has no weapon, Q = 1. If the soldier is using a Q5 weapon, Q = 2. (For non-standard weapons, Q = 1 + FirePower/100. Thanks to realjjj for reminding me of those self-configured weapons.)

Take me for example. My rank level is 36, and my strength is 959. So when I'm using a Q3 weapon, my damage should be ((36/50 + 0.4) * (959 + 100)/5 + 10) * 1.6 = 395 Let's look at more examples: Lgabor72: rank level 48, strength 2101, weapon Q5, simulated damage: ((48/50 + 0.4) * (2101 + 100)/5 + 10) * 2 = 1217 Bogdan_L: rank level 49, strength 2144, weapon Q5, simulated damage: ((49/50 + 0.4) * (2144 + 100)/5 + 10) * 2 = 1240

There might be minor skews here as the formula above is only a guess. But we can also see it basically fits our actual damages. --Belea2008 09:47, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Outdated information

Updated info - Only 10% from the damage you deal is added to the military rank.

Complain received from a citizen:

On you wiki page under the new ranks there is a statement:

"The only way to increase a citizen's rank is to defeat your opponents, in a war. Citizens receive Rank Points only after they have successfully defeated an opponent. The amount of Rank Points depends on the amount of influence a soldier adds, after defeating an opponent. For example, if a player defeats an opponent and adds +50 war influence in any given battle, he/she also receives 50 Rank Points."

So why do you tell us that gaining 10% of influence as a rank is a feature, not a bug?!

Sometimes you should admit you made a mistake.

Could you please add the new information in that page? --Belea2008 15:53, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Automatic closure of wars

We have border with Northern Territory in Australia. We also have (supposedly) open war against them. Then why there's no attack button?

http://www.erepublik.com/en/wars/show/2279

we NEVER sign any peace treaty with them and they attack WA about a week ago.

Answer: Wars are closed automatically if:

  • all the regions of one of the countries involved in the war are conquered;
  • their attackable regions no longer have a common border.

--Belea2008 09:30, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Nice that these rule-changes just come and go and if people discover them accidentally, then they know it. Or if an admin tells them to selected people and not to others. I reported a similar situation concerning the Romanian-Russian war declared on nov-24-2010, but not closed after the the two countries ceised to have common borders (the bordering Central Black Earth region being liberated). New namespace

"Rising" namespace implemented. --Belea2008 15:40, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

If you have decided that we can move things there (are you 100 % sure?), I would really like to move Battlefield, Work, Happiness, etc. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 09:51, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I'm 100% sure. Just let me know with what can help you guys. --Belea2008 08:52, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

New layout

One, the sidebar is gone and Two, how do I log in, if I accidentally log out? Icon-Switzerland.png Rowan Quigley Talk to me! 23:22, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

The sidebar is back.
The login is back.
General information:
  • the new layout is the default skin - thus let me know if you have any ideas how we can improve it
  • if you "hate" the new skin - you can change it to "MonoBook" here: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Special:Preferences
  • if you are using MonoBook now and wish to see how the new layout looks like it - use the same page - the skin is called "eRepublik"... :D
--Belea2008 00:53, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
No offence, but this is sorta fail.
  1. The reduced width makes everything look more cramped
  2. The "Bar" link is no longer visible
  3. The background starts again at the bottom, on a long page
  4. The links at the top look like they've just been chucked around
  5. It sucks
- Icon-UK.png John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png talk/British Army librarian 02:09, 20 November 2010 (UTC) :|
Even the first "Erepublik theme" failed. I am happy thought they didn't remove all other skins in order to force everyone to use their skin. --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 02:15, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

+1 for John F Baker. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 12:52, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

If this is only the beginning of creation of the new skin - than ok, there are still some things to be done (like link to the bar, help, etc.). If this is the new skin - than +1 for Jan. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 13:15, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
BTW. I found out a way to make some overrides to the current CSS - create Special:Mypage/erepublik.css (you can copy code from me, it hides "Back to eRepublik" and moves personal links ("my talk, my preferences" etc.) BTW. you may need to change "text-indent" so it looks good for you, I set it up for me) And, no, it can't bring back sidebar, because it's just not in the code of skin. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 13:59, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I don't know should I laugh or cry, but one thing is for sure: the new skin is ugly as hell. WHY CAN'T YOU JUST ASK US FIRST AND THEN IMPLEMENT IT IF WE LIKE IT? It would also be good to test the changes before you put them live. You won't see me around anymore here in wiki (maybe I spam something to get extra storage, maybe not). Goodbye. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 17:05, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
They should really test before putting things live. But it's sad. Another user leaves wiki?. It's not like we can accept it because we are already a ton who do stuff. I am so curious to see what the HELL is happening inside the brains of the Erepublik team? I just do not know. Tons of players have left, the admins ignore it. All they can see is tons of new players joining, which will soon also become old and leave. Do not expect that this will go on forever....--Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 18:11, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
It looks bad. Very bad.--Quicksilver 21:00, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

New military formulas

Can you add it to the wiki?

The formula for Influence:

I = ((R/50 + 0.4) * (S / 5) + 30) * Q

Where:

I: Influence on the hit
R: The value of rank. You can check the value of the rank here
S: Strength
Q: Multiplier-quality weapons. Q = 1 + Quality of weapons / 5 If the soldier does not have a weapon then Q = 1. If a soldier uses a weapon Q5 then Q = 2
(In case of non-standard weapons, Q = 1 + FirePower/100)

The formula for damage:

D = (60 + ((S1-S2) / 10))*Q

Where: D - number of the enemy's health received
S1 - your strength
S2 - the enemy's strenght
Q -1+ (Fire power your weapon - Fire power enemy's weapon)/300)

Wow, you were fast :p. But at least now I know that this information is accurate and not just a dream of some citizen. Ps. Why bother to inform the presidents if they're only going to be in the office for next 10 days? The successor won't know a thing about these new rules (well everyone can read that post if you know where to look :P). I think that:
  1. Admins FAILED hard with publishing "confidential information" on public forum (LOL)
  2. This Wiki will be ALWAYS outdated
  3. I'm not going to update Wiki because game is changing too fast, we're not bots to update it every change you do

Engineer?

I was told that to become an Engineer, I can request it here. I'm doing a lot of work on eNZ pages, especially the NZDF ones, so the ability to create/edit templates is a must. I keep asking Jan_Baykara but would be easier if I could do it myself :P. Thanks (Icon-New Zealand.png General Darkmantle Talk/Profile 23:22, 27 November 2010 (UTC))

Once you have made over 400 edits on the wiki, you will automatically become an Engineer, so until then you have to keep editing and wait. Icon-Switzerland.png Rowan Quigley Talk to me! 21:42, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
+1 for granting Engineer right earlier than it's by default. Unfortunately, I can't manage user rights, so we'll have to wait for Belea. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 12:10, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
+1 obviously. I've got just under 400 edits. But to be honest, most of the contributions I need to do now all include adding templates. And since I'm going to be doing quite a few of them it would be easier than having to bug other engineers. And I'll need to change/update them quickly at times too. I won't go against the admins final decision, but it would be easier than waiting another few weeks if not longer Icon-New Zealand.png General Darkmantle Talk/Profile 23:22, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Come on, this is gonna be easy! Just take the old V1 articles and copy them! The "new" system is 100% V1. No problem, articles already written. Amrod Falassion 13:05, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
My mistake. V1 was more complicated - there were more than one job skills. I suggest the different company and resource types to be removed as a next step, they are totally useless. Items are also useless. Just make one button that says "play for today". Click it once everyday and you're done. Amrod Falassion 07:46, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
Hehe. You folks leave V1 alone. that took me and Andy nearly two months to fix up properly! :) --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 16:37, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

  • Personally I don't like the new Wiki skin. It detracts from the accessibility interface that expert users have been using to make the homepage to look more aesthetically pleasing at the expense of user-friendliness. Regarding the upgrade, I was advised that it is not a good idea to upgrade the Wiki because the new "fancy search" (you can try it on Wikipedia) is "server resources consuming" - the result of the conversation: on hold.
Regarding the skin, if you guys have any ideas, I can provide you the "code" of the current skin (or any skin for that matter) and we can improve it together.
