eRepublik:Wiki Translators Bureau

Now we will have a page where major edits to English language pages will be recorded to notify our Awesome Team of Wiki Translators. This will be sort of a bar for translators. We have plans to somehow integrate it as a par of the bar as a Tab. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 02:36, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Inconsistent capitalization

Being a very junior Wiki editor, I'm wondering about a couple of things: after fixing a lot of "Experience points" links lately, I started wondering about the capitalization of P in "Forfeit Points". Is the capitalization inconsistency going to be changed as well, or is there some hidden meaning behind it? Cheers, Scadens 07:36, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

I have no idea why capitalization was used. I'm in favor or "Experience points" - as in, no capitalization, except the first letter. -- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Belea2008 (talkcontribs)
This is a big problem. Hundreds of articles are written with capitalization in every word, and hundreds of them are written with capitalized only the first word. We have to bring a consensus on how to proceed with it and this would be a great time to do it. A lot of redirects are deleted and many more will be deleted so what are we going to decide? Honestly, I don't have any opinion which is better, I will adapt. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 11:42, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
The Wikipedia standard of capitalization is first word capitalized, second not, Wikipedia:WP:Naming_conventions. However, when we started the Wiki we did not have this standard and most Americans (myself included) have been schooled that the words in a Title should be capitalized. So if we are going to institute this naming convention, we need to serious find a bot that can change links for us, because I a freaking tired of changing links :P. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 13:25, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
This could be done :D --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 11:58, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
I think we should come to an agreement if we want to do anything about this, set a standard, and create a bot to implement. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 02:36, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
WHOA! Can we wait until we have a bot that we can get to change links for us before we start moving pages? --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 15:33, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
All right; I'll inform that "Admin" person not to mess around any more and stop moving pages for a while. --Belea2008 10:16, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Capitalized only the first word

  • +1 --Belea2008 10:16, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
  • +1 --Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 14:15, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
  • 0 - I don't care, as long as we make a rule and stick with it. And I don't have to make link changes manually. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 15:05, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Capitalization in every word

Exceptions

Should we make exceptions like original article names, country names, city names capitalized, etc.? --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 15:19, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

See new policy below!!!! I think we can call this one resolved with the policy--QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 21:40, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Throwing some ideas, doing some work

What about these:

It was used by a bunch of people to say that they were a part of Bobloism. I believe that it is completely not needed because it is quite simple to add religion on citizen template... Another template is not needed.--AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 17:19, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm in favor of deletion. --Belea2008 09:14, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Deleted, template removed from use. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 13:10, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Other

There are some issues to be resolved on this wiki... For example Leon Fitzergald article. It was deleted, it has 3 files connected to it, 4 links are pointing to it and in fact it is a part of history... Divinity changed his name to Leon Fitzergalded and finally to Leon Pong. Can we do something about it? Ad least creating an article - This citizen changed his name to Leon Fitzergald on XX day on divinity page, and on Fitzergald page the same thing, but for Leon Pong page... OR something else, just deleting part of history is not the solution. :( --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 17:43, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

I have temporarily undeleted the article, ad least until MiniBill purges the unused files next week. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 14:18, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Another similar issue - Ryan Burnetti. He edited his own page, and then one day he decided that the time is that the page should be deleted, no matter that there are several links pointing to it. What about the fact that noone owns the page? And especially if that page is a part of eRepublik history and already interconnected with wiki? --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 14:18, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

I am thinking there is no good reason for deletion. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 15:32, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Undelete them please. --Belea2008 10:13, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Conclusion

We should not delete large documents that are a part of eRepublik history just because original author opinion is that it has to be deleted. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 15:19, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Don't forget to add this guideline to the Deletion policy. --Belea2008 22:58, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

{{NCitizen}}: ported to template namespace + tweaked for the greater good + changed some data + fixed some resize issues + added some heavy wizardry ({{Citizen/War}}) + moar. Have a look and comment --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 00:02, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
A few comments...I don't like the report and donate links, I think they aren't useful. The link to the profile is enough. The country rank is not needed as that changes sooooooo much. I don't like the economy section because people change jobs so much this info would quickly get out of date and there would be a lot of red links to companies. But if someone wanted to put "General Manager" positions only, it is ok, but I don't like it for Employees. I also don't like the listing of wars and resistance wars in the template. It is just too much information. Oh and for the ability to change the color, I don't want to give the citizens that ability... what if we set each template to a certain color, citizen blue, org green, etc. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 00:40, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
The template structure was copied straight from AC draft. Anyway, I too second the idea of the country rank being useless, as it's the thing that changes most frequently. About the job part, I don't think ppl change work that much, but I'm open to discussion. +1 on the report and donate links not useful, but they really occupy not much space, which would be empty anyway. About colours: I too don't think giving citizens the ability to change color is a big idea (I imagine the full variety of colour perversion the human mind can picture). The type/color idea is nice, but doesn't meet one of the causes of template redesing: having a wiki apperance more similar to the game one --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 08:31, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
OK, few things
  1. Wiki link to the citizen page is COMPLETELY not needed as you will be on the wiki citizen page. And honestly I like this message/donate/report, it looks like that we are really on eRepublik
  2. National rank - not needed
  3. Is it possible that you connect militaty rank with {{Rank}}?
  4. Background... I really think that one, or at the most two (blue - male; red - female; If a person writes Male in sex it would be nice that the template turns blue, if it writes Female, then it would be nice that it turns red, or maybe even pink, as the eRepublik blue is not really blue) colors should be enough... I would rather that we create gold template for the organization, military green for paramilitary organization, etc... --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 15:22, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
What an abysmally stupid idea this blue-boys; red/pink - girls background...--Quicksilver 20:00, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
blue/pink/red background idea is cute and yes, implementing something like male=blue female=pink would be really easy. military rank integration will surely be done with a little help from {{rank}} --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 17:20, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
  • No national rank - changes too often
  • No donate, no report - just only "Send in game message" and "Send message in Wiki".
  • No nationality, no residence - changes too often
  • Add newspaper
  • No political party - can change often
  • No employee of listing - changes too often
  • No military rank - can change often
  • No list of wars and resistance wars - does not look good and may become lengthy.
  • No sex - in game stat
  • COLORS - only one color for all the citizen templates.
Basically I propose "removing" all the in game stats (as in, keep them in the template, but not promoting their usage)
--Belea2008 10:35, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
I strongly disagree, if all ingame stats removed then the citizen's page has absolutely no relation to the game. Is the wiki going to be completely independent from the game or what? --Quicksilver 20:00, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
And this suggestion: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php?title=Template%3ANCitizen&diff=228924&oldid=225167 --Belea2008 11:09, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
And remove ImageMap from the citizen picture, please. --Belea2008 11:09, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

My thoughts:

  • No national rank - changes too often - +1
  • No donate, no report - just only "Send in game message" and "Send message in Wiki". -1None of these are needed
  • No nationality, no residence - changes too often - -1 A person's nationality is our main identifier here and in the game. Nationality (or citizenship) doesn't change that much. Residence does change but I think it should remain
  • Add newspaper - 0
  • No political party - can change often +1 I am going to agree with this. People don't update their pages enough to make this information worthwhile. Also it creates a TON of categories.
  • No employee of listing - changes too often +1
  • No military rank - can change often -1, it doesn't change that often.
  • No list of wars and resistance wars - does not look good and may become lengthy. +1
  • No sex - in game stat -1 is is a basic identifier and static information.
  • COLORS - only one color for all the citizen templates. +1

--QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 21:36, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

  1. No national rank - 0
  2. No donate, no report - 0
  3. No nationality, no residence - disagree, necessary stats
  4. Add newspaper - definitely
  5. No political party - disagree, it does not change that often.
  6. No employee of listing - 0
  7. No military rank - disagree, it does not change that often.
  8. No list of wars and resistance wars - disagree.
  9. No sex - disagree, necessary stat.

--Quicksilver 23:19, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

  • No national rank - +1
  • No donate, no report - I agree with Belea, "send message" option would be neat. +1
  • No nationality, no residence - changes too often - Citizenship doesn't change that often, and even if citizens move a lot, I believe they usually have a single place they return if they're not moving permanently. -1
  • Add newspaper - +1
  • No political party - All the categories are a pain. What if the template wouldn't create them? I don't think people change their party too often, so 0
  • No employee of listing - +1
  • No military rank - There are so few of them and the first ones are fast to gain. The last three will take more time so I'll say let's keep this. -1
  • No list of wars and resistance wars - Are there that many wars? Wars don't equal battles so would this really gain length? Hard to say anything constructive 0
  • No sex - -1
  • COLORS - I like the idea of different colors, but would a pink citizen template stand out too much? 0

--Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 19:22, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

No national rank - +1
  • No donate, no report - IMO it's useless on wiki, maybe "Send message"? +1
  • No nationality, no residence - changes too fast, citizenship will be better +1
  • Add newspaper - +1
  • No political party - people only sometimes change parties 0
  • No employee of listing - +1
  • No military rank - -1
  • No list of wars and resistance wars - +1
  • No sex - -1
  • Colors - let users choose colors from preset list - +1

Apparently, this is going nowhere. Every contributor wishes something different for Template:Citizen. Check this: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/File:Embedded_Wiki.jpg ----- Basically, from an entity profile (e.g. citizen) you will click the Wiki black book and you will see the Wiki page embedded in the main site. Click on the entity link in the Wiki page and you are back to the entity profile. Voilà! I posted the link to the picture here as an argument AGAINST having any user stats in Template:Citizen. If you wish to discuss about the file and future plans for the Wiki, please do so here: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/eRepublik:Bar/Debate_13 ----- Apologies if I sound "cocky"; I had a long day. --Belea2008 19:32, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Too many expensive parser function_calls

I don't know where to put it, I think here is the most appropiated place, but anyway..., the thing is that "english language" pages doesn't surpass the 100 parser functions limit..., but the translated pages got it..., and strangely, it's denoted almost by the presence of the LangMenu template. I don't know if it's an excesive creation of links with the function of "more languages", as it didn't happened before, I think... or the L template is creating 2 calls, or who knows if more.
I don't know if I explained myself properly, but well, I don't manage so much in complex code, so..., anyone could try to find what happens? Thanks, :D--Icon-Chile.png Purohueso (talk if you want) 19:36, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
PS:I'm trying to low the number of links and using colored text to trick the mind..., but I think I can't got the exact links colour, someone has the "#......" code for it?

You're right, translated pages tend to join that category. This is a problem in the LangMenu template, because it calls ifexists twice per language. I must redesign it :| --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 20:02, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't know which language do you use on a wiki, but at least in Java, you got the class String..., maybe look as a condition the similarities between a string with the language name, and the needed to access that if, and later add else if, letting at the end as the else the english version. Would that maybe work?--Icon-Chile.png Purohueso (talk if you want) 22:36, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
You use the wiki markup language which is, by FAR, less powerful than a standard programming language. The problem is that we want the template to produce two lists and, atm, this is done be asking for the page existence twice. Fixing that would require a complete redesign. I may do it today or tomorrow --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 13:21, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

{{DL}}

a {{L}} alternative which doesn't check for page existence, but it's "cheap": the idea is to use L with not yet existant pages, to obtain localized links when they are created. and DL with existant pages, to have cheaper links --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 10:38, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

(Unindent) User_talk:VSkyzv/Template:vSkyzv's_Bar I've created a new design with a to-do list on the top.] (If this gets approved, I'll create templates later to let users add more boxes\edit them more easily). That should be easy to add. Just find __TOC__ in the template and insert some links right above that. (I also added styling so the LangMenu would fit in). VSkyzv 17:54, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
I couldn't figure out how to add the link.... Can we start archiving the "foreign language" bars now? They never really took off. So why keep them active?--QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 02:08, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Game Icons

There are some interesting Game Icons uploaded on the Wiki (in August). These icons could certainly improve the graphics, however, names given to these Icons are not quite right (my personal opinion).

  • Icon impeachment.png Icon military 94.gif - used as a President Impeachment - renamed Icon impeach.gif.png
  • Icon citizenfee.gif Icon political 112.gif - used as a Citizen fee - renamed Icon citizenfee.png
  • Icon donation.gif File:Icon political 115.gif - used as a Donate - renamed Icon donation.gif

There is more..., but I am to lazy to list them all. They are in game icons folder]. I suggest renaming these Icon files to something more appropriate (while usage is still low).----Hrvat User_talk:Hrvat 00:21, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Category counter

Following the main title of this section, I would like to put an idea of mine: there is any way to count automatically the number of elements in an specific category? I'm not thinking it to be applyied to each category existent, but it could be a good idea to do so with Category:[language name]..., maybe in order to provide exactly how many articles are in an specific language. As for an specific example, maybe to put it on each language's main page (we have a total of 8,348 articles+, of which *number* are on *language*.)--Icon-Chile.png Purohueso (talk if you want) 23:23, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

The ingame wiki link has dashes instead of spaces. For example Western Transdanubia opens the page "Western-Transdanubia" instead of Western Transdanubia. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 18:03, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Understood. Wait for a few days to see if the team will solve this one (from the eRepublik site) in the near future or they are setting a low priority for it and "will be solved in a few months". --Belea2008 16:44, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
We have analyzed the situation and we have reached the conclusion that, at the moment, we do not have the available resources in order to make the necessary changes in the main site. We suggest you change "Template:Region" in order to handle the URLs: any region which has spaces in its name has in its URL the character "-" instead of space. --Admin 13:48, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
No it is not our template, it is the URL that the wiki link the game automatically creates by clicking the black book. The solution is to create redirects so that the regions link to the right pages. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 14:12, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

eRepublik Chat

The eRepublik Chat is now working great, and, staying most of the weekend logged-on, I noticed it is a great place for helping new citizens and debating the New World. I noticed citizens are interested in chatting, as the IRC page is quite viewed. I would like to ask you for this favor:

In the IRC page http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/IRC add a collumn for national chat rooms for the countries within erepublik. The links can be found here http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Featured_Chat_rooms

New features on My places

So, I was going to start removing Get Gold & extras links from Main menus, but then I noticed something. In game, Country Administration now takes players to National goals. How does this affect Wiki or does it? I'm getting a little(no, very!) tired of having to update Main menu and related pages, even though not being smart enough to remove the link when adding imagemaps was my own fault. I can only say to my defense that with Main page there was load of other things to do as well. And to be honest, I don't really see point in this update anyway. --Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 14:10, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

It is a "feature". Please report it to the "Report a bug" department. Thanks in advance! --Belea2008 17:12, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Also, regarding updates, create a template out of the Main Menu and place it in all the necessary pages. I think it is easier this way. --Belea2008 17:13, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
I know that we were removing a lot of "crazy" templates this days, but a imagemap template should be very useful, especially as you would have to change only ONE article (the template), and not the whole page... Templates should be created for repetitive things like menus that are the same on ad least 5 (or more) articles because it is easier to upkeep them. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 11:28, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Creating a template would cause problems with translations because image maps don't work with L-template. So in theory there would still have to be template for every language, though at the moment most of the image maps' links lead to English pages. I suggest we do this when the image maps next time need updating(actually Bill suggested using a template when I and QJ were updating Country stats pages, but we were already almost finished and I thought about the translations). Would it be possible to somehow include L-template or something similar without breaking image map?--Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 12:23, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
I will just throw ideas that I think would be useful:
* About a Main Menu template: It's possible to work it with some sort of if clause that would add or not the respective /[language] in the links?, I mean, you have the imagemap and the link, but it also has a clause that checks with LangMenu if it exists..., or maybe it just colapse?..., in the worst case, maybe the template should be a frame that says something like "Due to wikicode issues, these links will redirect you to the main english version, just check if you see your flag in there and you will access to the one in your own language", and maybe this one could be translated as you want, according to LangMenu..., just told someone that speaks that language to translate it and put it as the text in the frame with an if clause.
* About already translated languages: Well, already there are other 9 language versions, of which 1 also has double version in the wiki (portuguese), maybe ask someone to provide those translations to just add them as versions to be put in that part..., or just don't apply the template in those pages, :P Also, checking it, just there are already implemented the portuguese version (in the brazilian portuguese pages), and the spanish version (guess who?, XD).
Ok, I know that the wikicode is more simple and maybe won't let some of those to be implemented..., but just asking: there is any way to let another code to work there adding something like "<code:php>...</code>"?.... I had to add "nowiki", it seems like in some way it works, :O
I hope it has been useful, ;)--Icon-Chile.png Purohueso (talk if you want) 15:49, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
I'm not an expert with templates and I know only the most basic things about wiki coding, but we'll need to think about this. Then again, going through all those pages sure is a pain, but I'm willing to do it if we can't figure a solution that works. I can develop myself a more effective way of updating these pages. I can do a little research, find out which pages are translated, save a version for each language and then update the correct pages one language at a time instead of one article at a time. Or something similar. And Belea, I finally got an answer from the bug department. "We have checked this issue and found nothing wrong. It is as designed.". ...damn. --Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 07:24, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
"Army" has now been changed to "Training grounds" and we have lot of work to do fixing all the links. Overall working with pages related to Main menu, Country stats and National goals will take a fair amount of our resources, so I think it'll be best if we get done with this issue with image map templates while we fix various other things. What I want to know is if it's possible to somehow add correct /language to the links? For example, if we create a template to image map used in country stats pages(examples can be seen here), it could have a parameters for page it would be used on and the desired language. For example, {{Countrystats|politics|suomi}} would produce CS-P.png with links to Finnish pages(/Suomi automatically added to the links). Like this we could just add the template to every page with right parameters and update just the core template when needed. This would probably lead to some links leading to dead ends as not every page is translated to every language, but then again we have lot of red links anyway. Similar template could be implemented for image map created for main menu, though it would probably need just the language parameter. This would solve the problem with translations and would in my opinion be simple, but is it possible? MiniBill? I hope you all understand what I'm after here. If someone creates these templates I will not rest until I have placed them on correct pages with my own bare hands. --Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 19:08, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Ooops! --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 21:36, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

The naming policy looks very sound. A sake worth discussing are redirects in my opinion. There seems to have been a purge to remove a lot of differently-capitalized redirects. This is bad in my opinion, since a lot of people use the Wiki in other ways than coming to the front page and clicking on the right link to get to a page. I tend to write out addresses (and know several other people who do) and get slightly annoyed sometimes when I cannot get to the correct page just because a redirect has been removed. Sure it's just a small annoyance, but why cannot such redirects exist? The naming policy certainly helps with this matter too, but not everybody can be presumed to know about it. To summarize: Redirects aren't evil. --Icon-Finland.png Squirrel TC 11:28, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

If we're talking about redirects, from my military-focused point of view I would like to have WWI, WWII and WWIII reinstated. If anyone is looking for information on the third world war, surely typing WWIII into the search box should take them there...--Martin23230 11:40, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
We need to reinstate some redirects for search capabilities. WWI, WWII, etc are fine. However, I would really like to finish the other redirect clean up first. But to do this I need a bot or something that I can get to change old links to new ones first. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 21:36, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Wikiprojects

I'm really just wondering what the eRep wiki's policy on wikiprojects are. I'm thinking of starting a big project for my political party, as we have some editors that wants to contribute, and I think it'd be much easier to organize it if we could create a page here on the wiki called WikiProject:Teknokratene or something like that. It'd be easier to find and update, and a nice sort of headquarters. We do have a forum we use as well, but I believe something like this would not only spark some activity, but also make it easier for people like me to edit stuff we're interested in.

Any thoughts? Has this come up before? Is there a process I will have to go through before I can start a proper WikiProject?

Oh, and is it also possible to eventually create a Portal for the party? Here's the party I'm talking of. It's undergoing some major changes in the near future.

So far we only have wiki projects for large topics - Military, Politics, and a country, Australia. I am concerned that a wiki project for a party is a bit too specific. Do you plan on only working on pages for your party? --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 16:09, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
In the first round, yes. The WikiProject will be a place to gather info on all prominent members, any newspapers and news, and in general, info regarding the party. If it's a success, I might be wanting to start a WikiProject for Norway, if that's okay. Consider this more of a test to see how it works. There will always have to be a first, so why hesitate? But that does not necessarily means that the Wiki must be also in British English. What you guys and ladies decide, goes!

we could use something similar to wikipedia's policy. where American English is used in American related articles, and British in British articles, and the rest use whatever the editor used first. Ryan 5 05:11, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Actually that is kind of what we are doing and HAVE BEEN DOING FOR 1.5 YEARS. Titles and such match what is in the game (American English) "Organization" as opposed to "Organisation". I need to know what the wiki community thinks about these pages: "Yorozuya" and "Fumoffu LLC". This user is using the wiki as price listings for the black market. Is this proper usage of the wiki? I agree, this is something to be published on a newspaper or forums. And I don't think those pages match Wiki standards. Automated updates

(by Michael Collins)

I think it would be great if certain variables and information on the wiki could be updated automatically by the server.

First you would "link" pages in the erepublik wiki to their ingame counterparts. For example, the wiki page for Romania could be linked to the data erepublik stores for Romania. The page for a newspaper could be linked to the erepublik newspaper. The page for a political party could be linked the to the data for that political party. And so on and so on.

Then, certain commands could be written when editing a page. For example, typing something like '$GDP-1' into the wiki page would retrieve the current value stored for the GDP of Romania. All other country statistics such as population could be done as well. For newspaper pages, typing a command like '$articlelist-5123' would retrieve and output a list of all the articles that newspaper #5123 has written. For political parties, we could have commands that retrieve the statistics (number of party members, etc.) as well as a command that retrieves all the press releases the party has published. Company data could also be put on the wiki in this way.

Right now it is not very productive to put information like this on the wiki, because by the next day it will be outdated. If this job can be automated, it would really help with using the wiki as a soruce of information. With all the time saved by the automation process, wiki contributors will also have more time to write creative articles, information, and tutorials on the wiki, because they won't have to spend time updating data, numbers, and the like.

I think this can be done adding parser functions(like they added {{#if: a|b|c}} they could add something like {{#Info Italy|GDP}} --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core call me! 14:01, 23 September 2008 (BST)

To be implemented this would need:
  • The writing of an extension for the wiki. Shouldn't be much hard, just I dunno how to do it :D I could investigate though
    • Allowing the wiki extension to fetch data from the main site -- dunno how to do that, maybe eAPI would fit?
    • Parsing the information and outputting to wiki code -- easy
    • Understanding how to deal with updates -- dunno how to handle this

I moved the 2pac page to the user space with an explanation of the religion policy. The Macedonia stuff needs to be handled as this is overflow of personal issues/game issues being brought into the wiki. (Macedonia is Greek! Macedonia isn't FYROM, et al) The Breton stuff should be contained to its own pages. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 15:00, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
We should tell people that they can earn forfeit points if they are not serious on wiki so they will maybe stop doing this stupidity. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 15:19, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Help

Uhmmm. Can I ask some help? Can someone give a link to an API which gives a list of the elected members of Congress? information regarding their party and region representation? Thanks :D --• • <font-color="amber">Prince Terence II</font> Icon-Philippines.png <font-color="#000000">Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! • • </font> 17:16, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

You could try asking in the API group of discussions, not here. --Belea2008 19:26, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Just a rant

Based on this policy: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/eRepublik:Religion_policy - "Religions that refer to eRepublik players as deities, prophets, saints, etc. must have the consent of those involved in writing to ensure that rule 2.2 is being observed." - I'm asking for all current and future references to http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Special:Search?search=adminism&fulltext=Search to be removed. My main argument: admin is a player and no one has the consent for such a "movement" to exist. --Belea2008 19:52, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Agreed. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 23:55, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Delete these pages please

I will fix the red links after it is done. (I'm putting them here for winter clean up and having them all in one place). --Belea2008 20:29, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Nevermind. --Belea2008 20:34, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Redirects

Ok here are my answers to the question on my talk page. City Names I think this needs to be opened up to wider discussion. If cities/mayors are not going to be re-implemented anytime soon (6 months to a year) then I have no problem with the city redirects being removed. However, this has to be the process...

  1. Go to Every country page (including translations) and remove links from city names. The names can remain for posterity, just no links.
  2. Go to the redirects list and check the “What links here” for each city name
  3. Go to the page that links to the city name and replace it with the Region name
  4. When the redirect no longer links to anything it can be deleted (no need for delete template)

Anyway, I think we need to discuss this with more than just me.

Party Names that redirect In most cases where there is a party name redirect, a party has changed its name. If there are a lot of links, the best thing to do is to create a party page for the name. Fill out as much information as possible and write that the party changed name. Make sure that the information links to the page with the new name of the party.

Ranks I think it is fine to have them redirect to Military Rank because people will create these anyway.

Other redirects If they are to help people search for items in the wiki, leave them. For example “EP”

Citizen Page Tutorial Redirects Someone needs to review all of the templates used on the page and fix links. Everytime I have tried to fix these, I have messed them up royally. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 02:55, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the information. Let us know if you need specific help. --Admin 11:41, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
