Problems with Rising

As you know, there were a lot of problems with Rising and no real solution is in front of us. A lot of editors try to build up a great database of articles that were useful for citizens, but unfortunately, now most of them are obsolete. I have done a complete review of articles mentioned above, some images used ingame, and all templates and I have some statistical information for you:

  • Several articles (the list is still being made) and two templates ([1] and [2]) will be moved to Rising namespace, but before I do that I will have to talk with Belea.

Also, please review Category:Articles for Deletion because I added some templates that are not used, and the biggest blow is probably Work Skills. Why is this important?. I would like just to point out that we have a lot of work to be done, we need new editors and translators and this is the incomplete list because I didn't check out the whole 956 articles in Category:ERepublik Rising and 305 articles in Category:ERepublik Legacy Articles which were drastically reduced in few days as I have started to update some pages and removed this categories from translated articles. If you have some ideas how to decrease the number of problems with obsolete articles, please share it with me. This is for now, thank you for your time. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 15:03, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

In fairness, alot of the outdated pages are un-updatable by just anyone: e.g 2a Divisione Aviotrasportata. Unless someone can grab the italian Minister of Defence (and hope he knows about it), it'll probs stay outdated for a long time. - Icon-UK.png John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png talk/British Army librarian 16:17, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Also, some articles were listed for deletion because they used templates listed for deletion, with no <noinclude></noinclude> around the deletion template :) I corrected the skill one, just a heads up for the future. - Icon-UK.png John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png talk/British Army librarian 16:21, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

More than 30 days after, this are statistical information:

I am trying to do a several hour shift/day and you can see the small improvement here. But please, feel free to update articles. Thank you. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 20:48, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

So we should remove those categories (Rising, Legacy)? If I had known that, I would've removed it from pages I have updated. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 21:47, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
I don't know what to do with these categories, so for now I am leaving them on English pages, but I am reviewing non-English pages and update them with urgent template, or I do the small corrections if needed and I then remove all English categories from non-English pages. I still don't know what to do with categories Legacy and Rising as some articles are obsolete. :/ --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 22:51, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

(Almost) Every page in rising namespace has been archived properly (links fixed etc.). So there is one task less to do! --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 10:01, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Azaret has gone wild

This project is in fact Azaret's proposal to increase the quality of the wiki. The idea is to create better articles and templates that will make the editors job and visitors searching easier. In theory. :) --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 14:00, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Standards are good

Due to the resolution made in October, all flags and coat of arms will be standardized in the next way:

  1. All flags have to be named: FLAG-NAME OF THE COUNTRY/REGION/OTHER ENTITY, with category Category:Country Flags ONLY for country flags and Category:Flags for region, alliance and other entity flags.
  2. All coat of arms have to be named: COAT-NAME OF THE COUNTRY/REGION/OTHER ENTITY with category Category:Country Coat of Arms ONLY for country coats and Category:Coat of Arms for regions, alliances and other entity coats.

Ok, this sounds easy, but what is expect from you? You have to review the coats and flags and add the correct category, and I will later move the wrongly named files to the correct place, and then your task will be to update the pages connected to that files. Also, if you find some duplicates please add deletion template to them. Sounds fun, isn't it? --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 14:20, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

For some of those tasks we can use Special:MassEditRegex, or use one of our "bots" (*looks at Timeoin*) ^^ --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 12:16, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
The naming procedure is done, the only problem is to change the links to the images. The bot (MassEdit) is the easiest way to change them, but I would really like to check every country and region article because duplicate coat of arms and flags are not rare, and unfortunately manual update is the only thing that can detect them. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 17:36, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

eRepublik Dictionary?

ERepublik dictionary - Ian E Coleman

Nice idea, there are a craptonne of abbreviations in erep. I'll add some later :P - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 07:25, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
I suggest to combine eRepublik jargon into it somehow. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 14:38, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
May I remind you all that wiki redirects are not allowed in general. Unless that policy has been revoked, I don't see those abbreviations be fixed anytime soon. (I think the same applies to disambig pages) Icon-Taiwan.png- Jameson L. Tai talk/Minister of Defense and Director of National Intelligence 03:44, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
Creation of redirects is allowed, but in very small number... Creation of abbreviation redirect is NOT allowed. But, to create a list of abbreviations on one place + combining it with other eRepublik words would make a great article... --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 14:11, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Changes changes everytime

I believe all of you have heard about it, if not: [3] How should we do it? I mean, I think all pages about raw/companies/regions must be updated :S Citizen1931693 v3.png Khebit 20:52, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

I believe that we should give the work to Admins. How they can think that we can write articles if they don't tell us everything about these new features? They didn't manage to tell us that the productivity of RM companies dropped down to 50% of previous level. We only know that raw materials give 25% bonus to the companies. We don't know what happens if countries conquer regions? Now companies are situated in countries, not in regions. Will they end up like parties (once country conquered, all companies stays in the new country)? What RM:s are needed to produce food or weapons? Can we use any of them or must it be some specific RM?
They just give us a bit of information and the rest of it we must find out for ourselves. The so called community officers (like Belea) don't really know anything. They only know what the engineers and designers have told them. Like you can see in the forum topic, every answer of Admin can be found from the first post. So I have concluded that that's all admins know about these new features. When Rising came, and we asked questions from Belea, most of the time he said that I'll get back to you in few hours after I have reached some key people. So that's the deal. Really no-one knows more than the forum post says. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 06:41, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Good post Sampo555. I am not going to touch anything in this wiki that I do not care about. Admins can do the work :) --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 13:53, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Actually the RM productivity change was entirely logical - raw materials required 1 productivity per unit if on a high region and 2 otherwise, and now as companies reside in a country instead of a region, they logically cannot be on high regions and thus require 2 prod/u. (I'm carefully not saying anything about how wise it was.) --Icon-Finland.png Squirrel TC 08:52, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Image file naming policy?

Pages should begin with a capital letter, all subsequent words should be lowercase (example Trade embargo not Trade Embargo)

Does this include names for image files? For example, should it be Supreme_Marshal.png or Supreme_marshal.png? - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 20:50, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

I would also like to add some rules for this to the naming policy so that we make some order there to. Honestly, I don't care which will we choose (all first letter capitalized, or only the first word capitalized), but I want the rule so that we don't have to correct the links every time. Try to combine it with section below so that we don't have to do a lot of changes. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 22:54, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Rank icons!

We need to sort this out tbh... we have two sets of rank icons uploaded. One is in the style of File:Supreme_marshal_3.png, used in the Military rank chart, and another, File:Icon_rank_Supreme_Marshal***.png, used in the citizen template but not fully uploaded :/

Which one are we going to use guys? - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 21:13, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

This was supposed to happen as everyone want to update the icons... I would say: Choose what will suit you the best for rank template changes. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 22:54, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, Icon_rank_Supreme_Marshal***.png is by far the easiest for the template. The other example makes the template sorta unworkable in current form. - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 23:40, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Military Changes

  • DONE (M1): Added the blue rank bar to the battle page
  • TO DO (M2): New "attack rules" + Removal of Occupying country getting fraction of Defender Treasury if they get a region (not implemented yet) (the stuff admin discussed with the CPs recently) - ETA: next week
  • TO DO (M3): (Concept phase) Tweaks to the military laws (maybe a new law) for better definition of what country is your most important "enemy". Vague ideas as of yet.
  • TO DO (M4): Allow CPs to put up Resistance Wars as "Battle of the Day"
  • TO DO (M5): Changes to experience point gaining, related to military ranking up.
  • TO DO (M6): (Idea phase) More battle statistics, ingame per battle. No mention of API changes.

Economic Changes

E1. (Concept phase) Move missions in sidebar - Additional info: this would mean additional minor changes to some missions: like for example, there will not be anymore timed missions or they will show more information: as in, "you have defeated 3/40 enemies so far" or something like that.

E2. Removed possibility to buy Extra Storage: Only could get this

  • awarded to top contributors in the Wiki;
  • awarded to certain very active Game Moderators;

In the next period, it will be considered a bonus/award for certain types of citizens (very active, customers, etc.)

E3. Minor changes:

  • balanced productivity formula (overall increase)
  • removed the possibility to create certain types of companies: Oil, Titanium, Stone, Ticketing Industry and Houses

E4. Resources: This: http://forum.erepublik.com/showthread.php/105378-New-types-of-Raw-Materials-discovered

  • regions - all resources at a medium level
  • regions - rich in only one particular resource
  • API feed for the resources updated
  • world map updated
  • tweaks to the productivity formula (again) to introduce that 25% bonus...

E5. Company Industry Migration for Oil, Grain and Iron (Solve company problems resulted from E4). Basically - as you saw in the forum - Oil, Grain and Iron companies are the most affected ones, and this step focuses on these types of companies. Therefore, we are glad to announce you that a migration panel has just been implemented for Oil, Grain and Iron companies in the "My Places" - "Company" page, allowing one-time only industry migration between the three types mentioned above.

E6. Citizens will be allowed to buy companies no matter if they already own a company of that industry type

E7. Companies will be created in the citizenship country of the citizen. Companies will be allowed to relocate to the citizenship country of the citizen.

E8. Companies will be allowed to be transferred from an Organization to the creator of the Organization.

E9. Old industries - conversions to new industries...

Belea mentioned that there are a few more points he would like to raise at another time. Just to say, in future communication like this between the eRepublik team and citizens would be MUCH appreciated and positively received - this should happen more often, and it'd be great if you (Belea) could pass such a message on to the rest of the team! - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 15:07, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

The Avataronian plague, and a bit of a rant on how far the wiki has fallen

OK, I am still here. I still keep a good eye on my watchlist and the bar to see what is going on, but I am not here for idle chit-chat. It is a sad indication of how far this wiki has fallen when things like this happen: Avataronia.

So, I saw this page appear, in the mainspace, just under a month ago. Oh well, I thought, this will soon be deleted. It clearly has nothing to do with eRepublik, at least it should be in the user namespace, but I would vote for deletion. It was all pretty much by one user, although there are others involved. Things like this happen a lot in any wiki, it will be deleted within a day.

But then, browsing through the recent file uploads over the last few weeks (which is where I spend most of my time, it is very interesting), I see more and more useless stuff for 'Avataronia'. Check today for example, here. At the time I am writing the top 8 files are all from Avataronia, there are another 13 down the page (EDIT, this guy is uploading more as I type, although to be fair they are legitimately for Israel).

Looking at Emorfion's upload logs, I estimate he has uploaded almost 100 useless images to this wiki. There are tonnes of images on Avataronian Armed Forces or Military Decorations and Medals of the Avataronian Armed Forces for example.

Look in :Category:Avataronia. There are about 15~20 pages of, I admit, detailed and well written information about this stupid, made up country (Did I mention that it is based on Avatar (the movie), the people are apparently a mix of the humans and Navi from Pando... forget it, it is too stupid).

So, this has spread across the wiki. You wonder why I am here now? Because a) it was some relatively harmless fun and b) because I still clung to the belief that some mod could delete the whole thing, I let it slide. But then this edit came up in my watchlist.

That is enough, keeping your own pages is one thing, they could be moved to the userspace (although I am all for deletion), but it is spreading into actual eRepublik pages! This guy has gotten away with it for so long, that Avataronia has begun to spread like a plague. I have also now noticed he has added it to all the President's pages, subtly, I admit.

The worse bit? Talk:Avataronia. People know about this. Aryamehr, Grzechooo, John F Baker are pretty established users (much more so than I), they know about it but nothing has happened. User talk:Emorfion is blank. No warnings, nothing. He seems like a good guy, he has done a lot of work on the Israeli and Hebrew pages. But Avataronia has no place on this wiki. It seems no one has been patrolling the recent edits page, no one (other than me) has been watching the uploaded files, this has gone on long enough!

I have invested a lot of time in this wiki myself, and I know there are many more people who have done even more, but it is falling apart. I admit most of it is due to the Admin's repeated changes, so letting the Avataronian plague lose across the wiki is really a sign of the times. Who will respect this wiki if things like this go unpunished?

I didn't want to say this, but this would never have happened in QJ's time.--Martin23230 09:14, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

I am glad you wrote about this. Well, actually, not that glad because I do not really care what happens to the game or the wiki nowadays.
I can't do anything nor did do anything because I am not a sysop or anything similiar. I wrote in the talk page in hope of someone with power would notice and take action. I didn't write to the owner as well because right now I am not in the mood of fighting when I don't really care and when I see the owners don't care themselves either. Well written though Martin, and I am glad you are still here.
This just proves that the wiki is failing more and more. Check out Slap Day. The quality of this wiki is going down day by day, for every quality that goes down for the game, twice goes down for the wiki (lol). --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 23:35, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Belea...i'm sorry - New military formula (with new influence formula)

The formula for Influence:

New:

I = ((R-1)/20 + 0.3) * ((S / 10) + 40) * Q

Old:

I = (R/50 + 0.4) * ((S / 5) + 30) * Q

Where:

I: Influence on the hit
R: The value of rank. You can check the value of the rank here
S: Strength
Q: Multiplier-quality weapons. Q = 1 + Quality of weapons / 5 If the soldier does not have a weapon then Q = 1. If a soldier uses a weapon Q5 then Q = 2
(In case of non-standard weapons, Q = 1 + FirePower/100)

The formula for damage:

D = (60 + ((S1-S2) / 10))*Q

Where: D - number of the enemy's health received
S1 - your strength
S2 - the enemy's strenght
Q -1+ (Fire power your weapon - Fire power enemy's weapon)/400)

Removal of ONE from Active Alliances

It's come to my attention that the once aspiring alliance, Order of Nations of eRepublik has become an inactive one, the channel has been left empty, there has not been a single bit of alliance activity since it's formation, it's been abandoned by its creators and its countries. I want to start a discussion regarding it's removal from the Active Alliances list. ~ Icon-UK.png Thomas765 come talk - 23:14, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Suggestion for the Italian Miltary pages

First of all - these pages have been outdated for a VERY long time. In fact, if you check the history, one of the only updates this year was me, when i added the "Outdated" tag to them. What I wish to suggest is that we combine them into the one page. I dont believe it is necessary to have 30 outdated pages, when they can be condensed down into one page. So ... I'm suggesting this here. What does everyone think? Good idea? Bad?
I plan on acting on this in a few days if noone has any objections. --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 05:34, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Meh, fair enough. Just put each "division" or w/e in a section of the page. :) - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 11:18, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Thats what I was planning on doing. Honestly, I think that most of the "military" groups died out with Version 2 / Rising. There are a few groups that have remained strong - i know TCO is still doing well, and a few other groups are too, but on the whole, they're all dying slowly (Feel free to correct this if its incorrect) --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 10:03, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
AFAIK, most national militaries are doing ok; sure after V2 everything sorta crashed, but in general, all seems to be growing again. :) - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 13:35, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Mess in logos

OK, I must admit we have mess in party logos which names are ranging from party name/it's derivals (Logoppl.jpg, Wkwkwkwkwparty.jpg‎, haupei.jpg), acronyms (CDP.jpg, HUS avatar.jpg) to completely random names like 79546295-1-.png (I lol'd at this), Party 52.jpg, Zeus.jpg, and so on. Any ideas on cleaning up this mess? (I think it also applies to citizen avatars)
Not mentioning some of them aren't even categorised. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 13:03, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Lol, good shout tbh. I would go for using a citizen's ID as it's avatar file name, and the party's full name spaced out.- John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 13:09, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Grzechooo - really? Sampo and myself categorized the thousands of images about 6 months ago :P --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 10:18, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
In about 10 minutes I could (maybe) get all images of certain types categorized. Like every picture that is in party template or like every image in the citizen template would get the right category. But the categorizing is the easiest part. The harder part is renaming them all and getting rid of all redirects... --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 15:54, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, moving files is impossible atm, we can only reupload them as something else and redirect old...

And I thought that Sysops can move images... But back to business. After learning how to use mediawiki api and few problems, I got following results: There is about 1000 pages with {{Party}} (=party pages). Those pages have 306 images written in to the logo= | -field. I can categorize those as party avatars using the Special:MassEditRegex if you want (and if it works :P)... --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 17:08, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't say so. The mediawiki API tells me that page doesn't have category, but when I check the page here in wiki, it has a category. So this doesn't really lead anywhere :(. I only have a list of files that are supposed to be written in to the "logo"-field of Party template (I haven't checked if it's really there :D)... Better to go through them manually... --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 18:10, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

OK Sampo, I will do it tomorrow (pretty busy today), but how should I categorize them? Party-Name of the party.jpg; Party-ID.jpg (and what in the case of same IDs? Should I add letters to the end? EXAMPLE: Party-ID.jpg would be the oldest, Party-IDA.jpg would be the next one, etc.), or do you want me to use the abbreviations with the similar addition as before, but I would add numbers on the end (EXAMPLE: Party-ABB.jpg would be the oldest, Party-ABB1.jpg would be the next one, Party-ABB2.jpg would be the next one, etc.). Waiting for your feedback people, so lets write it down - which categorizing should be used - Party-Name of the party.jpg, Party-ID.jpg or Party-ABB.jpg or maybe something else? :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andycro (talkcontribs)

I have moved 14 files from the top of your list. Oh yes, and the best way to correct these pages is to review the articles about parties... They should be summarily deleted from the wiki, because neither the moderators, nor the admins care about them; they all ban whomsoever they are angry at or want some vengeance, and appeals only accepted for those who have a friend among them. It is time to go unless things change for better

I believe that December will be my last month on wiki and eRepublik. This decision was not made easily, but there is really no point of being here anymore - eRepublik is becoming a ruin of a great game. Admins are indirectly supporting multi-accounting, they make updates as they want, there is no real testing of the updates which usually results in removing the updates and replacing them with some kind of patches, communication between admins and citizens almost doesn't exist... I will do my best to clean up the wiki in December but if something dramatically won't change in the organization scheme of the eRepublik, this is my last month here. Just letting you know, but I won't say goodbye until the end of December... I will be very active this month, so if you are going to need something, please don't hesitate to contact me. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 23:12, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

WTF? I am now reading Croatian responses - simply confused, angry and disappointed people - not with the changes, but with this admin treatment.
And Grzechooo and Jan, trust me, this was not written suddenly, but I am simply to tired to clean up the mess... I will do probably an 5-8 hour shifts next few days to complete archiving / reviewing all one and rising articles so that the people would have the chance to read relevant data here and not obsolete.

It sucks to see you leaving. Though I hope you keep in touch with us using other means of communication. I agree with everything you have written. My biggest question is: How much more criticsm and how many more players have to leave until Erepublik team GETS it? Or actually, the bigger question is... will they ever get it? I can make a couple A4 pages full of everything that is wrong and 1 A4 page of everything that is good. This game has been like this since Beta, and it has not changed in three years, and I am 99.99% sure it will not change anytime near future unless someone buys them, and that someone I hope have good leadership skills. --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 20:27, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

  1. You may have seen I was off in last days. That was due to some RL issues.
  2. I protected Cyprus-related pages for a week. That's due to edit wars (used languages were switched in order)
  3. Resources icons. New resources have been uploaded as .pngs (File:Icon - Fish.png), old too (File:Icon - Grain.png), but we have their copies in .jpg too (File:Icon - Grain.jpg). Bar overflow

We have a problem. There is so much discussion in the bar that the TOC flows over the first discussions. I suggest that we make the TOC scrollable so that it won't hide the discussions at the top. 0 I don't really have an opinion... It is nice to see so much action in the bar, I would be even more happier if all bar problems would be resolved.
