Access Process

Not sure if this is the correct path for this, but I'm wondering what the process is for getting accepted on the wiki. I've heard from some people that they don't get access and then they can't reapply because they've already applied. I don't remember having this problem, but maybe someone can give me some advice? - Ian E Coleman Talk 19:03 2 February 2011 (AT)

Belea is cursing my name

Probably, because we talked for several hours for few days during last 30 days. xD

The last conversation took place yesterday and last for around 4 hours! We managed to discuss about some really important steps that will happen in next few months, so I am bringing you all a summary of all our conversations, especially the last one. I would really, as would probably Belea, appreciate your feedback on everything. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 16:31, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Game changes

As you know, the game is changing weekly and we can't influence on that. The thing on which can influence is to try to keep the wiki updated so I have asked a Belea a heads up for major changes. He will try to keep us inform (if his bosses provide him with the clearance) when and what will be changed. At the moment, the thing that will change in economic sense will end probably sometimes in March.

What happened to the "new economy module will be published end of January"? --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 18:43, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
As I understood, some testing problems occurred with the new module so they are correcting the problems. But Belea will probably have more info. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 19:02, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Lolled. How can some testing problems postpone the release by 2 months :D. Well, at least that's better PR than telling: We don't know why this isn't working. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 14:08, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

So, we have a long way ahead of us and we have to be patient until this journey ends. The things that are most certainly that will disappear in this period are Hospitals, Defense systems and Moving tickets. The things that will be different are mostly the General manager working and operating conditions (like decreasing Income Tax, no posting for companies on Monetary market, etc.). WHEN AND WHAT EXACTLY WILL HAPPEN IS STILL NOT 100 % SURE, SO THERE IS NO POINT OF ASKING HOW WILL SOMETHING LOOK LIKE. Oh yes, and the EP tunnel will be changed also... Probably several times in this two months. As I sad, when Belea will have some info he will share it with us so we can make the changes. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 16:31, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Game problems

Unfortunately, there are still several painful problems - multies, politics module, and newspaper module. This is unfortunately on hold for now until this current changes don't finish. The multies problem is handled by GM's after the "disease" happens. When and what will the admins do to improve the preventive measure for this attacks, as well what changes will be done on politics and newspaper modules are yet to be discovered. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 16:31, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I don't care much about the problems with the politics and newspaper module, I just want them to kill all these damn multies. Icon-UK.pngIcon-Australia.png Rowan Quigley Talk to me! 12:49, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Admin obviously don't care about multies, every n00b knows how to make them without get cought :/ --Hurkancs Icon-Croatia.png Say something to me :) 15:17, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Communication changes

One of my mine "remarks" about the current system is the poor communication with the community. Belea is trying to repair the link between us (editors) and the staff, while ingame communication is mainly conducted by PM's and forum... I would be more happier that they would announce the changes earlier and with more info, but this is a start - it is better than no communication at all. The main plus, which I hope to see soon, is that new IRC channel will be put to use which will serve as a direct line with the staff. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 16:31, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

It's easy to make communication better: Admins will create an IRC-channel in Rizon (most of the eRepublik channels are there). They create a web IRC client to the eRepublik. There would be people from eRepublik team and game moderators answering to the questions of citizens. Then possibly countries could define their official channel (like National Chat Room law) and it would be visible on country page (linking to the channel). Only problem with this is that many countries have their channels in different IRC-networks so the "national IRC-channel" might not work so good (unless you use IRC-client that is able to connect many networks the same time)
Like I said before: "If there had been 10 Beleas in eRep team, we wouldn't have any problems with communication." --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 18:43, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
You know, I had the same idea :P --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 11:31, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

New wiki reward system

I was talking with Belea about new reward system... I gave away around 5 gold (my own gold) to the people that took the time and translate several articles from English to Croatian... This method is not bad, but it is to expensive! :P So we came to an agreement to motivate people a little bit more... Extra storage + some amount of gold... The question is, what would be the most fair distribution system - to reward the top editors, to reward the editors who work on a certain task (project), to reward translators, or something special? --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 16:31, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I'd go for giving prizes to people who has Wiki'd many things and:
  • worked hard in a project (important one),
  • helped translating many pages of a "project" (someone who translates all the Rising pages, for example), or
  • started (and watched, coordinated, worked in) a WikiProject.
Also, I think Gold should go to editors that worked very hard (see: Uber Editors) that month, and Extra Storage to the people that helped a lot and was involved in the community. Citizen1931693 v3.png Khebit 17:48, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
I rather take the extra storage than gold. I can get gold easily - extra storage only from here. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 18:43, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
If its like 10 gold for Uber Editors, I'd rather gold than the extra storage. Icon-UK.png Rowan Quigley Talk to me! 02:45, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
If it was 10 gold for Uber Editors I would not give you anything. To be honest there is a lot more uber in some editors than in uber editors. And I don't mean you Rowan :) - just a general though. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 14:04, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
With "UE" I mean editors that are active corracting pages, creating templates, and helping the wiki's development. Not just those who are Uber-Editors. Citizen1931693 v3.png Khebit 20:01, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
Why don't just make a list of top priorities for the next month? Like, for example, by the end of January you may create a list with "translate articles from English to X language!", "make the page of Y!". And I know that there are some priorities which never change (like translating), however a detailed list of priorities sounds better than general one stating "do everything you can!!!". I hope that you all understood me :D --Icon-Poland.png Caroline au Marymont|Talk to me. 01:44, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Some UberEditors aren't very Uber anymore, myself included, I'm afraid. Life has a tendency of getting in the way. However, my view is that UberEditors edit the wiki not for personal gain (such as gold/storage), but for the advancement of understanding of the masses. That's why I used to continuously work on the wiki and why I always turned down the reward. I was willing to volunteer my time to help compile an accurate history of the New World, no reward necessary. Giving out gold can be controversial - do you give it to the top 5 editors for the month? Do you check the quality of their edits? Or is quantity enough? --Chris Stanwick 14:45, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

General Consensus (Stubs & Deletes)

Hey guys, we are getting loaded down with stubs from 2 years ago, while we have new pages that need to be focused on and ones all in between to be found; so I was just wondering if we can make a general agreement to delete any page after several months of being stubbed and not fixed, thoughts? Icon-Saudi Arabia.png Wes Lewis Talk/Projects 2:07 22 January, 2011 (EST)

In what kind of pages are you thinking? I mean, citizen pages? Wars? Citizen1931693 v3.png Khebit 19:31, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry forgot to mention this wouldn't concern critical pages in history such as wars and events just citizens, newspapers, companies, and parties. Icon-Saudi Arabia.png Wes Lewis Talk/Projects 2:37 January 22, 2011 (EST)
-1 I don't agree with you. Pages should be left here as historical information. We shouldn't solve stub problem with deletion of pages. There's a lot of citizen pages with proper templates + some text put for deletion as useless. I would never delete a citizen page as useless as it's practically a game feature that every citizen has right to have a citizen page. It's different thing if there's a only one sentence in some foreign language and not even the template. I urge every SysOp to refrain from deleting any citizen, party, company, newspaper etc. page which is marked as useless. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 16:38, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
+1 While I agree with sampo about citizen, party, and newspaper pages, I agree with Wes on org and company stubs. Org stubs don't really give much historical information aside from their one-time existence. Companies change hands fairly often. Most of the time, the new owner changes the company name. Eventually most companies become inactive and dormant. If the article is only a stub with an infobox saying "This company used to exist", I don't see it as contributing much of historical value. --Chris Stanwick 14:49, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Latest military "improvements"

Wiki is about neutrality, right? Well who cares!

Admins have came up with new ways to get people buy gold:

  • One RW at the time / war
  • No RW can be started until 24h has passed from conquering
  • 10% Natural enemy bonus for rank increase too
  • 10% strenght bonus while training if the country your citizen of has a Natural enemy

I can see where this ship is heading (and everyone else should see too, remeber those boycott V2 campaigns?). Belea, could you please tell us why on earth you're destroying such a great game? If you got no players left, you will not get any money. Could you try to kick some sense in the dev guys? --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 19:59, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

I lol'd at the last one, as no small country will be able to have a Natural Enemy during a lot of time. = Big countries are bigger, small countries are smaller. ||||||Khebit TC| 20:09, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
The first two are just idiotic. What is the point of them? :/ - John F Baker Icon-South Africa.png Talk/Pretorian Guard 21:17, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Indeed. Sampo, this is not the great game what it was, since a year ago. =\ --Icon-Paraguay.png/Icon-Argentina.pngSantirub 21:30, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Small countries haven't really had any chances to survive in long time. Companies in CS countries messed with small countries economy. There were a lot of companies abroad and when admins forced us to move the companies back to our home country there weren't enough employees to create products --> salaries rise --> prices rise --> foreign products flood into economy --> gold leaves the small countries and goes to bigger ones. Admins don't care about small countries as they don't buy gold.
Then the natural enemy law. Admins said that it was implemented basing on presidents suggestion. However NOT a single president at the time had proposed or agreed such a thing. Presidents were mostly against all changes admins were implementing. They didn't care (remember what happened in Rising?). The goal of all the changes is to get everybody fight wars and thus buy a lot of gold. That's all they care about. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 05:42, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
I don't even know if eRepublik is profitable. I just think they are eating up their cash reserves until (one day) they are profitable... Maybe that is why they are pushing forwards so much changes to attract gold--Apotygma 19:40, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Seriously, you guys just keep screwing over the smaller nations. Instead of allowing them to grow and have a chance you allow them to be easily destroyed. Natural Enemy allowed nations to get a free war with nations they otherwise would not invest the DoW Cost into. What this means: Smaller nations who could grow a population are far less likely to do so because theres no point when a huge nation can just NE you and stomp your nation.

Combine this with your soon to be worthless RW module and it means 100% total death to any small nation who gets swallowed. Instead of being able to launch multiple RW's in attempts to free one in the distraction will be gone. Now you can only start ONE RW and are forced to hope someone has the money to burn to fight off the huge occupying nation. Its so you can sell more gold but frankly its going to backfire. Smaller nations will have no reasons to grow. Players from those nations wont advertise or bring in friends. In short your RW module will be yet another nail in the coffin of eRepublik. Combine these poor ideas with the previous poor idea of pumping tons of admin created currency into the eWorld and you've got a good recipe for pushing out some of your last paying customers. -Relorian

Some templates...

Code-Y has created some templates that can be used to show different skills of citizens in their citizen page. Those are

I've moved them to fix the naming but the question is: Are these templates really needed? I think that the company list template isn't needed at all as everyone can create a table for companies if they want to show those in his/her citizen page. The others I'm not so sure... I would like to hear your opinions about this matter. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 15:28, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

-1 The templates look awesome, they really do. Unfortunately, they require the user to constantly update their information on a regular basis - something that most users will not do. As good as they look, the information they provide will very quickly become horribly out dated. --Chris Stanwick 14:53, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Wiki management categories

I've made little tweak to the {{Urgent}} template. The Category:Outdated is now sorted by language, not by page name as it used to be. This will help translators to find the pages in their language in that category and to update them. E.g. all English articles are under "E" -letter or Finnish (Suomi) under "S" letter. thanks, I'll think about it after we reformed some of the laws. --Icon-Netherlands.png Daniel Parker 12:51, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
Historically, very few pages get protected unless vandalism in actually occurring. The neutrality of the wiki means that anyone can edit the information if they feel they can "improve" upon it. In the past sysops almost never agreed to protect personal projects for individual editors. --Chris Stanwick 14:56, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

UK Roleplaying Pages

There is an argument in the UK over the rules for this: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/United_Kingdom_Honours_Committee Which is apparently totally wiki based.

Are these kinds of pages allowed on the wiki, and if so who gets to decide who leads them? --Goku Jones 14:50, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Well I just thought I would mention it because people are using that page to justify their having control of "official" awards. An example is the UK CP not being able to give out an eUK award on a citizens wiki page because the "Honours Committee" is in charge.

A further thing I would like to ask is if the awards themselves, such as on this page: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Hassan_Pesaran are allowed on the wiki? --Goku Jones 21:40, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Goku, what's your beef here? The UK in-game community awards things to the UK in-game community, it is documented using the wiki for the in-game community to use and see. I fail to see what you're trying to get at here? --Artela 12:33, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

New cool game menu

I've made some cool stuff in my sandbox. It's the main menu of eRepublik converted into wiki. For it to work right, I need to get some CSS added to Mediawiki:Common.css. So if some sysop could add the css from my sandbox (the gray area) to Mediawiki:Common.css, I could start testing this for bugs. Thank you!--Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 23:36, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

It's fucking awesome, really! ||||||Khebit TC| 12:09, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
Only problem is that the menu image is wrong (the current image is the old menu). In order to get the image right, the css in Mediawiki:Common.css needs to be changed. As I can't edit stuff in Mediawiki ns I need some sysop to do that. So if some sysop could replace the current style with the style found in my sandbox we could go live with it (remove everything after "/* Style for interactive game menu */" row and copy the text from the gray box to the css file). Another option is that Belea updates this file with the new one. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 12:53, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
Fixed the CSS. BTW. It looks uber cool. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 13:04, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks Grzechooo! Now, let's vote: Do you agree that we replace the current Game menu template with the one above? --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 13:50, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

The eRepublik wiki? Fictional content in user pages.

It seems all I do on here is come and rant, so I am sorry about that.

It seems to me that the wiki is loosing direction. We have two main sections, two things this wiki is used for. The eRepublik game information (stuff like Military tutorial or Party, things like that) and the eRepublik in-game articles, things that are created from the small base presented in the game but expanded (which vary hugely, from Moldovan Leu to Recruitment director to Canada-UK War (these were random articles)). Profile articles would fall somewhere in-between the two. However, recently there has been a surge in a third type, stuff that has only the slightest bit to do with eRepublik. I don't mean Dioism or Goons or even United Kingdom/Governmental Infrastructure, they are valid in-game phenomenons or parts of the game.

No, what I mean more usually falls under the user namespace or sandbox. Including my much complained about Avataronia of course (which still exists for some reason) but more subtle things, things like Monaco, Luxembourg, Andorra. What is the point of these articles? Why are they here? Why should some one be able to create a real-life country, which might have real people campaigning for it, and put themselves as it's president. Emorfion, him of Avataronia fame, has created another huge series of articles, down to Compagnie des Carabiniers du Prince. He has even used DISPLAYTITLE to change the name to make it look all official. Then he comes to ask me to make ball icons for these countries, presumably so they can look even more official. Then they start forming alliances between themselves.

I must ask: Why is this stuff in OFFICIAL EREPUBLIK WIKI?

This wiki needs a real change in direction. It should make a clear split between what should be and should not be included.

Now, there is an obvious counter: These pages are in the person's user namespace/sandbox. Shouldn't you be allowed to do anything in your own sandbox?. Well, I say yes, within reason. Good uses of the sandbox should be to test ideas for the wiki, i.e. stuff that the user thinks is within the wiki's remit. For example, my sandbox contains articles I have been working on, random templates or projects I have been playing around with (I admit all very outdated). But all for the intention of them being used in the wiki. Sandboxs like User:Grzechooo/Sandbox or User:MiniBill/Sandbox are good. User:Daniel Dimow/sandbox is questionable, but not to bad if we treat is as an extension of the user page (although I thought embedded music was banned). User:Emorfion/Lebanon or User:Frerk/Sandbox are not good.

For too long the default has just been to move questionable pages to a user's sandbox to get rid of them. Yes I know people have spent a lot of time on these things. Fictional countries, religions, characters. People will say that they are not harming anybody. However I say; just delete them.

This is the official eRepublik wiki, it should be about official eRepublik things.

Thank you again. --Martin23230 15:40, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Avataronia is tottaly dead, I wrote it in my newspaper, I said it to the people that supported me, and I wrote it in the what was the official forums of Avataronia.

Now I'm gathering a group of people, including the Luxembourg Committee, to join an Unofficial alliance, so Monaco, Andorra, Luxembourg and Lebanon will be approved by the admins. In the meantime, I'm now in negotiations with the presidents of Cyprus, Taiwan and Montenegro to join an alliance with Israel, Netherlands and Singapore, so they could also promote the nations I support (again those are Monaco, Andorra, Luxembourg and Lebanon). This time (not like my other projects) I keep those in my User space, and I don't want to cause any trouble.

I don't want to make no one upset anymore, I am sorry for the past times. Now I'm trying to be calm and run my projects and bussiness without disturbing anyone.

Thank you, Emorfion|Talk to me!Icon-Monaco.png 16:03, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

What's so bad about User:Frerk/Sandbox? We allow in game religions >.>? But meh, this non-exsistant countries are really not needed and I wouldn't mind seeing them go ;P. --Icon-Canada.pngCode-Y Talk/Projects 16:36, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

"although I thought embedded music was banned" - yes, it is banned. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 12:16, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

If I may, a few points:

  • "The sandbox is a page designed for testing and experimenting with wiki syntax. However, it must not be used for malicious purposes."
  • AC had over 60 sandboxes at one point in time; you can still find some of them here
  • He was the major contributor to Dioism (and one of its "ambassadors") and fictional articles (and the policies which govern them). He is still a SysOp (although no longer active)

Main idea: if a contributor has imagination; let him/her. If that same contributor wants to have 10, 20, 100, 100, 5000 sandbox pages - the same contributor should be allowed to (the "malicious purposes" still stands). I would rephrase your entire speech to one simple question: do you consider we need a policy like this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability - in our Wiki? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Belea2008 (talkcontribs)

As a new editor I'd like to toss in my ideas about this. The reason that I became interested in the wiki is 1) because new players have really no other way to get an idea about what is going on, or the historical context in which it is occurring. The game history/politics is overwhelming to newbies and it probably results in a poor retention level. In my opinion this is the main purpose of the wiki. To clear things up and provide ... well .. eHistory. 2) as an extension of the game that allows us to continue playing even once we have done our in-game stuff. It is this second point that causes the concern. I think there should be a lot of latitude in making things up and being creative, because that's the fun part. Players should be able to create their own personal history, religion, clubs, groups, etc. But I think there should be a line drawn when it conflicts with and is outside of the scope of the game. It does have to have some basis in the game. The Avataronia epic series is a good example. On the surface it looks like a group of players doing their own thing, but as pointed out, they are seeding the content into "official" looking pages. This produces confusion for new users and should be addressed. My recommendation is to use a tagging template system to label content that is outside the scope of the game, or essentially user-created. Something like one of the Help:Common_templates/Templates with a text body of This is a user-created page. Content should not be considered part of formal eRepublik history.. I'm hesitant about prohibiting editors to have a little fun with the game by being creative. Notability is dicey ... basically any player could write an article themselves about Avataronia, and then guess what ... it passes notibility. If an editor has a problem with content they can always request a cite, and after a while remove the offending content - if necessary by sending it to AfD where both sides can state their case. --Citizen 6 02:26, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Sampo as Sysop

+1 Yes! Now nominate me :)? Also, I thought someone else had to nominate you o.0..? --Icon-Canada.pngCode-Y Talk/Projects 22:26, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

I don't know if I can nominate my self but other people have done it too so I think it's ok ("Self-nominations are permitted.") --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 08:39, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Nothing personal against sampo, I consider him a good contributor and with high potential to become an outstanding SysOp, but we're not asking questions to "proposed" SysOps? See the difference:
For future reference and documentation, I'm just asking... if you guys consider that you already decided (and you need no questions to place a "vote") in a particular case, I'm all right with it. But I'm seeing three cases in which "votes" have been already placed without any questions being asked. --Belea2008 22:34, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
I even did not nominate myself for being Engineer and UberEditor xP, For sampoo, I believed he was already sysop...
we miss sysop guys Belea, I told you on IRC. Sampoo is old, active, near to 24/7 on Irc, he can assume this position.
Im not sure that obvious questions will change anythings. ~~ Azaret Icon-Paraguay.png déjame un mensaje (: 11:35, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Party Logo Names

Can I get one of the big bosses to help sort out the South African party logo images? I've created a list at http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/User:Zamrg/South_African_Party_Logos_To_Rename with everything that needs to be done, and I can help fix all references to these images once this is done. - Zamrg 12:28, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Could you please add links to the list... it is easier for me (or any SysOps) to move files without searching for them). I added links for the first item on your list. Thanks in advance! --Belea2008 22:37, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Table Legend

I recently came across the need for a table legend. I think this template -> http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Legend-table looks pretty cool. Can we perhaps have a vote/discussion to add one? - Zamrg 08:27, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Can't hurt, but it probably won't be used that much anyways ;x. --Icon-Canada.pngCode-Y Talk/Projects 12:32, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Cleaning of Common.css

While I was cleaning Mediawiki:Common.css, I came across few things which I think need discussing.

  1. {{Cmbox}}. It is meant to be used for "category notices", but it's unused. How do you think, should we use it, and if, how to use it?
  2. I have found some nice CSS classes for things like manipulating table of contents of articles (nonumtoc,toclimit-X). Should we keep it, or delete it?
  3. Also, some CSS IDs, like #EnWpMpBook (what is it for?). Anyways, it's linking to Commons images that return 404, so it doesn't work. Quick one: keep it/remove it?

--Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 16:29, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

  1. Let's get rid of Cmbox as it hasn't been used.
  2. I would keep these.
  3. Remove.

Hey, I banned Aussie Southland for vandalism and I've recieved 3 messages from people in eRepublik for not being able to access the wiki because of this.
