New namespace

...it is called "One" (example: One:Test) - it will be used in order to move page for historical reasons (the new namespace is not defulat searchable, thus if you move something there, it would not appear in the common searches). There's only one "guideline" when archiving pages (at version changes): do not link the new userspace to other namespaces - example: Beta:Fight page. Let me know if you have questions or suggestions! --Belea2008 17:09, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

I think it should be named "V1", sounds better. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 12:28, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
I never saw a namespace with a number in it (and I did not want to risk it). I do not know if it is possible to have a NS with a number in it. --Belea2008 12:37, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Huh, if it's risky then "One" is good. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 16:26, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
Is it possible to write here what editors think that should be moved? So that they don't move something that shouldn't be moved, so that sysops won't have to move it back! :D --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 18:02, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, we need a master listing of what's actually in V1 and V1 only, a list of articles to update from One: to Rising:, and a list of articles that don't yet exist that should exist for eRep Rising. Icon-USA.png - Jameson L. Tai talk/United States Rangers 10:10, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
I would also like to request that in this next few weeks no one delets the redirects, maybe we could even protect the redirects to be deleted only by sysops. There will be a lot of migration which will bring some articles to be reviewed for its links. Thank you. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 20:43, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Let the update begin

Next week we will launch eRepublik Rising - the site will be put in maintenance mode Tuesday (6th of July), starting with 02:00 (eRepublik time). When V1 was launched, we have spent an entire Romanian day and night in order to update the Wiki (we = the team + QJ :D) and it was painful and scary. We pulled it through eventually! (it is QJ's fault)

I propose we start a bit earlier this time (as in 5 days earlier), because (a) I do not wish to be so painful and scary and (b) I think more time brings better quality. That's the good news....

The not so good news: Rising will be launched without an "Advisor" in it - thus new citizens will have to rely heavily on the Wiki. Here's how we did it when V1 was launched: this Tutorial was created and there's was a big skyscraper banner guiding new citizen to that Wiki page.

Let me know if you have questions or suggestions.... --Belea2008 17:19, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Formulas

I still believe that new formulas should be released for everything. That way this wiki will mean something more and have more practical uses than just a regurgitation of eRepublik Insider articles. Icon-USA.png - Jameson L. Tai talk/United States Rangers 17:29, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Publishing the formulas in a sandbox is on my today's (long) to do list. --Belea2008 12:17, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Let me know if you need more formulas. --Belea2008 14:21, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

I have a question about the formulas: is it true that 400 productivity points equals to about 40 production points (resources) for weapon companies while the same 400 productivity points equals to about 1 production point (stone) for construction companies (houses etc.)? Garabeda 10:23, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

I do not fully understand what you mean with the term "production points". --Belea2008 19:51, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/User:Sampo555/Sandbox/Core/Conversion_2
--Belea2008 19:58, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Yes, this is exactly what I needed. In that case I think that houses and hospitals will need awful lot of time to be completed. And if productivity points equals different customization points that will be misleading for new players (and even for old ones). I think if hospital need 500 times more working hours to be completed than change the raw materials instead the productivity formula. It's stupid one hospital to need 200 stone but 1 000 000 (1 million) productivity points. In the same time one Q5 weapon will need more iron (250) but a lot less time - 2 500 productivity points - which is confusing IMHO. Garabeda 14:38, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Seems we found "Economy progress is calculated considering a default of Working for 8 Hours & Learning for 4 hours, with 100 Health / 100 Happiness, each skill everyday." Please, confirm or refute. And we need the same information for military skill --Frike 09:07, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Why is default migration an equal division of the skills? This way those who might want to come back after some time away, will have shitty low, useless skills both military and economically, and lose incentive to play immediately. IMHO default migrations should be 100 % to one skill. --Quicksilver 20:13, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Custom migrations can be perceived as a way to reward the current most active and informed citizens. You entered eRepublik in the migration period = you had access to the migration panel. And the team has announced the migrations with a lot of time before eRepublik Rising was implemented. I'm curious: why should not we reward active citizens by offering them a custom migration panel? --Belea2008 07:50, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
I deleted my answer because you have never been interested in opposing opinions.--Quicksilver 15:17, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
I only tell this to the others who might read this: It is not a reward to handle migrations logically - therefore admins did not reward anyone but punished 2/3 of the players for no crime at all. --Quicksilver 18:24, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. Why should I change my holiday time just for the sake of erep, when it was scheduled way before the migration was scheduled? And wonder why the migration was scheduled to be in the mid of summer, when many people are not at home... I feel I was punished, sir, I do. Even though it seems I also gained on it (that is, now I can choose the best paying jobs without regard to skills :) Amrod Falassion 10:06, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Changed MediaWiki pages

--Belea2008 17:26, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

What are our instructions?

Alright, as a translator, I have begun translating pages, but we editors need to fully understand what exactly are doing. I will post what I believe would be the best way to do at this point. If you disagree, cut into the bullet and express your opinions.

  • Outdated V1 articles not used in eRepublik Rising should be moved into the One: namespace.
  • All V1 articles should be added to Category:eRepublik Version 1
  • Outdated V1 information on article titles shared with eRepublik Rising should be moved to One: namespace, but the redirect from the move should be used instead to generate the new information under the same name with eRepublik Rising content. At the end of that article, a link to the old V1 article should be provided at the bottom of the article as a "Further Reading" link. These articles should be added to Category:eRepublik Legacy Articles
  • New eRepublik Rising articles should be added to Category:eRepublik Rising

Please let me know your thoughts on this. It will make all future systematic edits much smoother. Icon-USA.png - Jameson L. Tai talk/United States Rangers 22:22, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

+1 agreed. ---- Icon-Netherlands.png Icon-Australia.png Tim Veltkamp| Nubcakes? 06:28, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
+1 You sum it up very well. --Belea2008 09:08, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
-1 Jameson has explained this very well, but do we really need this many new categories... I have noticed that on some articles we now have two categories, and will your categorization make categories like Category:Playing the Game, Category:Military, Category:Economy, etc. obsolete? Have in mind that new people won't know that, for example, category Category:Jobs doesn't have any of the new professions because all of them will be put into Category:eRepublik Rising.
Also, you said that All V1 articles should be added to Category:eRepublik Version 1, does this apply to translated articles also, for example: One:Food/Hrvatski will go to category V1 or Category:Hrvatski?
Also, why should we add category legacy to, for example, new Experience points article? A link with an explanation at the end or beggining of the article should be enough.
To conclude, I am at this moment against this procedure. The first step is ok, but everything else is, ad least for me, just not good enough, especially because there will be to confusing for people while browsing the categories. This is just my two cents! --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 13:34, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Andy, I understand what you are talking about. The main reason is for other translators to have a baseline of what has been translated and what hasn't. You raise good points, and the answer to the multiple category question is that articles are often part of multiple categories on a regular basis. Adding more categories to the article will not affect the flow of information, but will help editors clearly identify where all of the crucial articles are. Icon-USA.png - Jameson L. Tai talk/United States Rangers 17:14, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
+1 I agree with Jameson, we need to keep track which one need update and which one already done. We can even remove all page from Category:eRepublik Rising after wiki migration completed. Icon-Indonesia.png blackmanta 19:46, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

I suggest we leave the "Wellness" page with a short historical text in it. Or remove it completely.
Regarding ways to increase health, you can add them (although they are related to the Military module - fight).

Here is a map I made during the Beta, it looks like nothing has changed.

If I may point out, the Haifa District in Israel is in completely the wrong zone, it is in C4 (Malaysia) whilst the rest of Israel is in B3 (Southern Europe). This is a bug but when I submitted a ticket they found no problem... And if I may say, there are quite a few revisions I would make. The Western USA should really be in a different Zone, B2. I would say eastern China should be in B5 and Western Indonesia should be in C4. This would balance out the regions slightly. I understand there has to be some compromise between geography and politics, but for example Brazil's southern two regions should be in D2 going by Geography but C2 (with the rest of Brazil) politically.... Sorry, rant over.

Finally, and wiki related, should we add a Travel zone field to the region info box? Martin23230 17:30, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Balancing

Each product type has a "modifier" (M). These modifiers are as following:

  • Food: 0.3
  • Travel Tickets: 2
  • House: 25
  • Hospital: 115
  • Defense System: 115
  • Riffles: 2
  • Artillery: 3
  • Tanks: 6
  • Air Unit: 9
  • Raw materials (high region): 1
  • Raw materials (medium): 2
  • Raw materials (low): 100

When you work, you achieve a certain "productivity" (P) (the one displayed in your results page).

In order to see how many "units" (U) of raw materials or of a certain component you have made, the following formula can be applied: P/M = U.

Thus:

  • in a region with high resources, your productivity (P) will be equal to the number of raw materials units produced (U);
  • in any company (except the raw material ones), the number of customization points (C) is equal to the number of units (U) required in order to complete a certain product.

I have also started to work on the wiki tables that should be reviewed, but my hands hurts after 75 minutes non-stop clicking and writing, so I will post the tables tomorrow morning (Croatian time). When I post them, I would ask every editor that worked on moving and updating articles (especially Sampo and DDimow) to review them (expect them in 12-13 hours to be published below!!!). Guidelines for One articles

All one articles should be updated in the next way:

  1. Change {{LangMenu}} to {{LangMenu|One:Name of the article}}. For example on article One:V1, the langmenu should be {{LangMenu|One:V1}}
  2. Add template {{Version1}}
  3. Change links in the article so they lead to One articles. It could be useful that on the end of the article add link to the new Rising article (See also)
  4. Remove all categories and add category [[Category:ERepublik Version 1]]

NO MORE REDIRECTS

I have to ask you to stop making redirects from MAIN namespace to ONE namespace. If you wan't something to be moved, please write here why. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 11:57, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

WHAT SHOULD YOU BE DOING?

Note: You can create these articles on two ways:

  1. The classic update. Click on the article and update it
  2. Create the article in your sandbox and contact me to move it.

Just to check im doing this the right way ...

For the "main" pages (i.e. the information pages such as Playing the Game, etc), as far as I know these are getting split up into three categories:

  1. Version1 Pages (Denoated by "One:" at the front of the page
  2. ERepublik Rising Pages
  3. ERepublik Legacy Pages (Those that are the same in Version1 and ERepublik Rising.

Is this information correct? --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 15:42, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Also, The "Politics" category has been completely sorted. Any relevant pages have been tagged with "ERepublik Legacy", as most of them are used in both Version 1 and ERepublik Rising (I think someone already mentioned this though) --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 15:54, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

One Horror ends, new begins...

I believe that migration is finally finished. If you find any other article that has to be moved write it in my talk page with an explanation why. This is the fastest way to get my attention. Please do not move it yourself. I would leave the most of the political articles as they are. New political module is not yet on the planning table, just a few link changes that can be modified on this current articles. There are still articles that have to created for Rising, so please, take your pick and create them.

If you choose one of the articles and update it please do this:

VOTING:How to categorize translated articles in One namespace

OK, as you know, on all ONE namespace article template {{Version1}} will be implemented that gives Category:Version1 to that articles. Now my dilema is about translated articles which can be found there. I believe that we have three choices

  • 1. We don't add category on that language, we use only Version1
  • 2. We add category on that language + category Version1
  • 3. We create completely new categories for that languages, for example Category:Hrvatski V1, we translate the Version1 template to the languages and then we add that template which will have an automatic categorization to that articles.

Honestly, I am strongly opposed to third choice because it is to complicated, but am undecided between first and second choice, so vote. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 18:40, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

I have a question about the new template. Why are orientation and ideology links? They weren't on the main template. I am concerned that this will lead to 10 articles on political ideology copied from wikipedia. If there is a need for a page for "Orientation" and "Ideology" (which there might be) then all links should take you to that page. Also, I see that the party orientation categories have been removed. Besides it works with the normal congress sizes, it might be obvious that it gots screwed up with countries that got some extra territories, lost some of them, or just more appliable to any country in the eWorld: someone resigned. I would suggest, or to just put back it has it was before (you write all the thing), or to ask for something on the form PP/TT, where PP is the number of congress members in the party, and TT is the actual total of it. Main page?

I see lot of talk about several pages needing update, but what about the main page? There was a nice portal page in the old version (ie Portal:Main_Page) but the current main page is practically empty (even worse, it has a box with ideas for editors, suggesting the most needed tasks are "Add references to Great Southern War" and such (compare with the lists here in the bar). Is somebody working on the main page?

Also, btw, just exactly how are editors supposed to work on articles about new features, when the erep wiki is supposed to be the place that gives this information? That is, where to get the correct info for the article? From the Erep Insider? (But that contained many infos that were changed later - such as the terrain advantages of tanks and helis, and didn't contain every formula etc.) No offense meant, just curious... Old main page was moved, there are still some issues regarding it to be moved. I will move and correct the rest of the "old" main page articles and subarticles this Sunday (25th) so please wait until then to update it. Thank you. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 10:44, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Okay, noone has answered this yet (Damn, im a slow typer!), so Im going to jump in here and answer. Amrod- thankyou for the question! First off, the "Main Page", i believe, has been left the way it is because the links that branch off FROM this portal are not yet 100% updated. (This is a work in progress, though). As for the tasklist with the boxes, that list was requiring doing before the massive overhaul that is being taken place with ERepublik Rising.

Finally ... There is information posted above (see the comments that Belea has been making in particular!) And if there are any questions, we have a resident expert on the ERepublik game (he's one of the Admins, and knows the coding, etc) in the #wiki room almost every night - I have personally seen him there every night for the past few weeks now, at least. (If you are going to be there though, please be respectful :D) --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 10:46, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Military formulas displays the information about the terrain bonuses, etc. --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 10:48, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks folks. Can I help somehow? I am currently doing hungarian translations, but some articles aren't written in English yet so they have to wait.

For military formulas, you mean that the info in the wiki is the correct one? (instead of what was in the insider) bye Amrod Falassion 11:24, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Yes, they should be correct! --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 11:28, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, they are correct. That part, at least, ha been checked several times. Unless someone has vandalised the page recently and undone the edits, then it is correct. --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 12:21, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
I wonder about the utility of translating the main page, especially is it now. It doesn't seem worth it. Also I don't think there needs to be 2 to do lists on the main page. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 17:04, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, no, not really. I presumed that we were going to re-make this page once the rest of the Rising pages were completed? --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 03:16, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Are you sure you want to wait for that? Or is it projected to be complete soon? As for the translation, at least it's a good opportunity for experiment. For the hun main page, I removed the todo lists, and added links to the game_concepts page and to the list of hun translated articles. So at least hun users have a starting place. Then when the new eng main page is done, I'll redo the translation :) Amrod Falassion 06:44, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
My suggestion is to have a basic main page and then deal with that LATER once all of the Rising articles are finished. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 21:36, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

The new version is almost ready to be impelemented, I still have some things to archive before the implementation, but I believe that tomorrow (Sunday) it will be finished and impelemented. If you have any comments/ideas, you are free to write them down. NEW VERSION OF THE MAIN PAGE. Few notes: The main page is similar to the old one + some of the new ideas stolen from belea's version of current Main Page. Also random listed articles like did you know, images, etc. are NOT yet updated, so don't think about it at this moment. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 19:07, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

New Main Page implemented. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 15:34, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

about translating keyword/article names

Hi! I read this in the help: "DO NOT CREATE A REDIRECT IN YOUR LANGUAGE! For example creating the page "Comida" with the redirect to Food/Español. Instead you should create a link like this [[Comida|Food/Español]] or {{L|Food|Comida}} or {{DL|Food|Comida}} " Now I'd like to ask, does it only mean that in our articles we should write links like that (finally I managed to make the {{L|Food|Comida}} type links)? Or, is there a way to have a translation for the keywords, such as if I write into the search box "étel" then it will find the page "food/Magyar" ? It would be very useful, as people who use the wiki in non-english language do so because they might not speak english or not even use the english version of erep. So they might not even know the correct keywords to type into the search. (And now, for example I type "ház" and only about the 10th result brings me to the article "house/Magyar".)

Also, btw, I see that there is a Hungarian version of erep (don't remember reading in the insider, must have missed it), but it's still far from complete, only a few words are translated. Is there a way to help in that? (I'm helping Doggett with his work, so if he's on it, it's okay). Thanks Amrod Falassion 06:51, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

The official language of the wiki is English. It would be too difficult to manage redirects in 20+ languages. Even though there are multiple versions of eRepublik, we have only found the utility in one official wiki. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 21:34, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
I just thought of a possible, maybe complex, solution: create somehow a detailed search on the wiki that looks at the name of the page, as well as the displayed title on each page. This way, you put in the title of the page "Comida" in replace of "Food/Español", or "étel" in the case of "Food/Magyar", and this supposed search is able to look at those titles. I know it's somehow impossible to do something like that, which would need a certain modification at least on the search engine of the wiki, but it's a crazy idea I came up with, :P
Another solution may just be put back the "suggested links" on the Main Page, so you start clicking from there, and navigate for it.
Or maybe, add a "set language search" above the search window, where you select the language, the system checks your word (on english, or maybe the first mentiones way, but a bit simple) and if the article it's translated, it gives that version inmediatelly, ;)

Hope something would had been useful, :P --Icon-Chile.png Purohueso (talk if you want) 22:13, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I think the suggestion with the main page would be the most useful. Such as the old main page was, and the new one will be. (I already added a list of translated articles link on the hun main page, but it'll be nicer with the categories). Amrod Falassion 08:37, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

I think bringing back the Game Concepts section that was on the old main page would be helpful --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 17:58, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Taxes template

On V1 era, VSkyzv created a table template for taxes, but I don't know why it never became a template on his own. It was implemented on 3 country pages, and looked well, and even iVicentico did a translation to spanish.
Well, obviously, this template get old with Rising, but I had just actualized it on a sandbox, and implemented it on the chilean page (replacing the old one).
Can I just create Template:Taxes to "officialize" it?, I'm engineer so I can do it on my own, don't worry, but I'm asking anyway, as well as telling you of its existence, :P
PS: How can I make a "sort of" automatic translation (if the page is on that language, it got shown on that language, if existing, but without calling specifically to that translated template), of a template?, I would like to implement it on this one, ;) --Icon-Chile.png Purohueso (talk if you want) 23:50, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Great work Purohueso, the template was moved and it is ready to use. Please update all pages where you put it so I can remove redirect from your sandbox. Thank you. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 07:50, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Updated the pages, and removed the redirect (don't delete the sandbox, I will use it again soon, maybe tomorrow, :P). You are welcome, ;)--Icon-Chile.png Purohueso (talk if you want) 08:41, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Heh, actually I never saw this template, but it's great. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 14:32, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
