Region Name Changes

Ireland recently ticketed the Admin for a name change of several regions. This ticket succeeded and there are several of Ireland's 6 regions which now have new names. Ireland is still looking at changing the names again since many people were unsatisfied with the new names (so we should wait until the final settlement to make changes related to this). I'm just wondering how we go about changing these regions and more importantly what we do about all of the links to the former names of the regions. --Ian E Coleman 11:41, 6 May 2011 (PDT)

I think we should save them for historical info ~~ Icon-Romania.png McKayRO|Say hello! 12:48, 15 May 2011 (PDT)

MoS for game terms

I made some redirects a few weeks back, but they were removed because they were deemed "not needed". Some of them I understand, but some in particular I think should be used as part of the MoS. These are Natural enemy and Resistance War and Resistance Wars (though this last one can be done through [[Resistance War]]s). Note the capitalization of the second word. I have seen other editors occasionally write them the same way, so its not just me. Grammatically I think they are technically correct depending upon their usage, and I'd like to point out that the terms are often capitalized in-game as well, which could explain why some editors like myself perhaps inadvertently use them in this form. Also, I am not suggesting that lower cases be removed or superseded, just that cap version also be allowed as a redirect. Calling for a vote. -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   00:11, 23 April 2011 (PDT)

+1, -1, or 0?

+1 for me, obviously. -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   00:11, 23 April 2011 (PDT)
-1 Redirects should be created to make the pages easier to find. The search doesn't care if it's lower case of upper case: the page is found if it's written correctly (Natural enemy, NATURAL ENEMY, natural enemy etc. the page is found). People who create pages should use [[Right name|name you want]] syntax. We don't need to create any more redirects for those who are too lazy to write few more letters. That's my opinion. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 00:39, 23 April 2011 (PDT)
not so much a question of laziness, but one of grammar; particularly applied to Natural Enemy, which could be considered a formal Title depending upon how it is used. Normal language usage would be to capitalize it in some cases, so using the wiki syntax is counter-intuitive, not to mention potentially incorrect. I'm not suggesting a full capitalization of the term, i.e NATURAL ENEMY (which would be weird), just adhering to standard grammar conventions by capitalizing both words. Similar to how it is used in-game. But it is a small issue, so if others feel it is not needed, then cool. Term searching is not the issue, it is internal linking (the power of wikis) that is mostly of importance. However, its not like there is a premium on redirect space, unless there is some technical issue that could somehow gum it up that I'm unaware of. -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   02:10, 23 April 2011 (PDT)
-1 I agree with sampo, we are already having trouble with spotting unused and not needed redirects, making more is stupid. People need to learn to spell them in lower case in section of the title. -- Icon-Canada.png Rowan Quigley 04:58, 23 April 2011 (PDT)
-1 Resistance War and Resistance Wars - when used in game like that, they are considered typos by the tech guys (low priority bugs). Natural Enemy is still debated in the team. To better understand, for a long period of time, we used American English in site (second letter capitalized - especially in titles and in game concepts). The official main language of the site is UK English. With that in mind, some concepts are still written with second letter capitalized (see the whole "Gold and Extras" page) - in order to "emphasize" their importance. Also, an interesting one - on homepage - it is written "Military Campaigns" - it should be "Military campaigns" :) > All in all, in the long term, all these typos in the site should be corrected (and everything should have only the first letter capitalized). --Belea2008 01:13, 2 May 2011 (PDT)

Uber Editor Nominations

John F Baker

I've decided I'd like to nominate John F Baker to become a Uber Editor. He has been a fantastic editor and seems to be perfect for the position. He has made many fantastic edits and is a very good user of Photoshop. I hope Uber Editors and Users of the wiki also agree with me in letting this great editor move along the steps to what I'd like to see him as a Administrator of the wiki in the future. But this will do for now :P

Elink template

How can i use this template for linking laws and Elections ? Ali Emami Flag of Iran talk to me 18:36, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

YOu cannot :/ The only way to do it is using the plainlinks tag, but I don't know how to use it. ||||||Khebit TC| 10:16, 4 May 2011 (PDT)
I shall add those features to it later today.--Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 21:16, 4 May 2011 (PDT)
Khebit, all this plainlinks is just <span> with class "plainlinks", something like this:

<span class="plainlinks">[http://erepublik.com/en eRep]</span>
eRep

I just realised that those two types can't be done with eLink (as laws require the country name and elections need country, type (party id, region), date). This would just make the template a lot more complicated and it's easier to use the example above. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 07:51, 5 May 2011 (PDT)

BTW, what do you think if we make all links to erepublik.com (and subdomains) as plainlinks? (Future: http://www.erepublik.com, current: http://www.erepublik.com) --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 08:01, 5 May 2011 (PDT)

BTW. Why don't make separate templates for them? --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 03:38, 8 May 2011 (PDT)
-1 I like knowing if I'm going off-wiki before clicking, even to eRep. If we could somehow change the link color or something I'd like that much better than the link-box, which always looks a bit off when used in text content. But I don't know if that is possible. -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   08:23, 5 May 2011 (PDT)

For editing the color of the link, we have to add a css line in MediaWiki:Common.css this:
span.plainlinks {color:"color needed";}

Merge Tag

If anyone feels bored and wants to work on a template tag, I think we could use one for "Merge". That is, if we don't already have one. I worked up something real quick over on Battle for Serbia, but something formalized in the TempSpace might be useful down the road. Maybe with a better image if you want, though I like the colors. But up to whoever spends the time doing it.  :-) Also, unrelated, what's up with the drop-downs here in the bar? When you expand "Major discussions" and "Bar Archives" the transparency is all whacky. Just wanted to point it out in case others missed it. -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   04:14, 5 May 2011 (PDT)

BTW. Do we even use those "Major discussions"? --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 05:46, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
I've never used a "Major discussion" template in all of my wiki times on this website, and I'm a sysop. If you really want to use it I suppose we can put it in for you but you'll be probably the only one using it. -- Icon-Austria.png Mikhail Alexander 14:26, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
I doubt I'd use it, just saying it looks weird. Maybe it should just be removed? -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   15:23, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
I'm not sure if you understood me correctly, because I meant this "Major disussions" on top of Bar page. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 03:09, 7 May 2011 (PDT)
yeah, I was talking about the expandables underneath the "menu" above, here in the bar. If you click them, the transparency makes the expanded content difficult to read (at least on my comp). I'm wasn't suggesting a tag for "major discussions". My fault for not making a separate discussion, just something minor that I was pointing out in passing, and I don't use them anyway. Anyway, looks like you made a merge tag {{Merge}} for us. thanks Grzechoo. whats wrong with red and khaki, Jan!? just kidding ... :-D -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   04:48, 8 May 2011 (PDT)

I suggest that we add notice about file naming policy to MediaWiki:Uploadtext (Like "If the file is a region map, use "Region-regionname" naming convention). You can use this as documentation when updating the pages. I can say that there's a lot of other pages that still need updating but this is a good start. Have fun updating! --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 10:25, 12 May 2011 (PDT)

After I checked what exactly you have done in the articles mentioned above, I found following problems:

  • Economy page not updated.
  • Template:Game Menu don't need to be changed as the organization entry is still there (at least for me). It should only be visible if you have created orgs.
  • Create company needs to be archived to Rising: namespace.

So it would be great if you hard-working guys could fix this problems too (It feels so good to delegate jobs to others :D) --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 05:43, 16 May 2011 (PDT)

IKS, an in-game wiki editor group

Please excuse the long read, but hopefully you will find this interesting ...

So I've been slowly working on developing a new in-game group. The twist here is that this group is designed not as a political party, nor as a military group, but rather as a true social group. Instead of focusing on warring, politics, and building your stats, this proposed group is designed primarily around this wiki and gathering information about the game. I'm not sure if this has been tried before, but I thought why not give it a shot.

You see, the truth is that I spend far more time "playing" this game here on the wiki then I ever have done in the game. A lot more. This is mostly because of all things that the game has to offer, the wiki is by far my favorite part. Maybe it's just me, guess it just suits me better than any of the modules. I got attracted to eRep because of the whole social and "you create history" aspect, and ultimately I have come to the conclusion that the wiki is really where that gets accomplished. Let's face it, most players who don't lurk the forums or IRC, particularly the newbs, usually will come to the wiki to find out the information they are looking for. Sadly, when I first started, I discovered that the wiki was seriously outdated in a lot of cases, even concerning things that you would think would be important. The New World is a bit confusing to new users and the game seems to point newbs to the wiki to find the answers. But nothing is worse than being a newborn and walking into a bunch of outdated and sometimes contradictory information.

So this is why I would like to invite any interested editors, who really enjoy passing on accurate and updated information, to sign up for a group that I have named, IKS. The acronym doesn't have an official meaning, but unofficially it stands for I Kill Spies. Why this name? Well, aside from a little RPing, my thinking is it might be a way to integrate wiki editing and the game. In particular, bringing together wiki historians and in-game Ambassador_(diplomacy) roles. Why? Because I've come to learn that if you really want to know what is going on in a particular nation, or why things have developed the way they have between nations and groups, experience has shown me that the best source are ambassadors. They are usually "in the know" about current events regarding their assigned country, and they have often filled me in about the actual history of any given situation, whether it be military operations or politics, or policy. They are a great source for information and the quickest way to get information. They are also often engaged in the game and aren't just two-clicking, but actually communicating. In most countries I assume its a fairly easy position to start out with, and you get both fresh players and experienced ones. Of course some nations may put more focus on ambassadors than others, but who knows.

Anyway, the group is open to both ambassadors and what I am calling Historians, people who update the wiki. It doesn't have a political goal, but it is a way to find out what is going on and provide a place to make contacts and share information. The basic idea is presented on the IKS page if you want to read some more. It's open to any citizen from any country that is either an active wiki user or an official ambassador of any country. The only real requirement is to regularly update the wiki and to try to be as accurate as possible. Ambassadors are only temporarily in the group while they serve their term, editors are in as long as they are active, but any editor who reaches Uber-editor status may gain lifetime membership in the group. Its still in the early stages, so if anyone wants to help me with getting the project off the ground, that would be great.

Like all groups, it might work, or might not. Really depends on participation. Anyway, the idea is to try and informally merge the wiki and the game by forming a social group that plays on both. Let me know if you're interested in joining, or have some ideas for improving the concept. Thanks. -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   01:36, 17 May 2011 (PDT)

I would be very interested in joining this, its a great idea and might want to get other people involved. -- Icon-Austria.png Mikhail Alexander 00:00, 16 May 2011 (PDT)

Anyone who is interested (and hasn't already) can sign-up on Talk:I Kill Spies. Kinda using that as a start point. We are still forming the group, but I plan to open it up to ambassadors through forums, media, etc., in the coming days. I already have some ambassadors and regional chiefs (on the USA side) interested in getting involved, but not all of them are as active in the wiki yet. Would like to get this thing fully international, so if you got contacts, feel free to invite them. Still formulating things, not in a terrible hurry, but anyone interested is welcome to jump on board. -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   23:12, 20 May 2011 (PDT)

I Don't like so much the idea, mostly because it has not a real use, maybe API notes their continents (BTW if notes Australia as a Continent, for gosh sake fix it :V), but in facts they don't say so much info about anything. For example this Australia (continent) and this Australia has not much sense, they are the same thing. Maybe it could be added to the Template:Country as an aditional info, i think that could be better :P.--Santirub«say me hi :3» 21:48, 22 May 2011 (PDT)
I would change Australia to Oceania (including Indo, New Zealand, ect.), though technically not a continent per say. Overall I'm not sure how useful these might be, but they certainly can't hurt. Would rather have these as regional zones for classification purposes, similar to this. But ultimately I'm not sure eRep recognizes continental regions in the same way. -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   01:09, 23 May 2011 (PDT)

Quicksilver's Ghost???

-1 It's a valid citizen account; we can't censor things. What we can do, is prevent the article from being biased and falsifying information John F Baker Flag-UK.jpg Talk   Royal Navy 12:44, 17 May 2011 (PDT)

It is not biased, therefore it has every right to be on wiki. Rowan Quigley IS biased personally against me, so his edits should be undone. If it was good enough for Belea, then it is good enough, period. http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/User_talk:Quicksilver--Quicksilver 03:33, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
btw, can one ask a page to be protected - from biased wiki (uber) editors? --Quicksilver 03:44, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
I've never seen a protected page before. Are there any? As for the article, if it is about an active account and conforms to MoS, then it is valid. Would like to know why the Quicksilver account was banned though, because it is a big focus of the article, but technically I guess it isn't required. There does appear to be some bias in the use of words like "unfairly", because no details about the ban are presented to support that claim. Terms like "unfairly" and some parts of the "voice of resentment" section could use some rewording to become NPOV, but the page itself shouldn't be removed if it can be improved. The history shows a lot of reverts over bias tags, which do appear to be valid tags and I see no bias from Rowan for placing them there. It just reads one-sided, and before even checking the history I was noting some bias written into parts of the article myself. No reason to get offended by some in-line tags, they are just used to point out problems that could be corrected. A little rewording should be able to fix them. McKayRO has a point though, the wiki is not for voicing opinion. State the case and let readers draw the conclusion. Its the best way to remove the {{neutrality}} tag too. -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   04:40, 18 May 2011 (PDT)

I repeat: “ It looks all right from my point of view. Thank you! ” (Belea) (see the talk page)

Therefore I see no reason to reword anything. The page is only stating facts. --Quicksilver 05:13, 18 May 2011 (PDT)

Quicksilver, what I said is my POV, I didn't do that to offence you, nor because you are on a rival country (didn't know). That is my POV, For example I wouldn't be happy as a admin seeing that written. Nothing more... ~~ Icon-Romania.png McKayRO|Say hello! 06:16, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
Talk is cheap, McKayRO. The page is valid. Nuff said.--Quicksilver 06:43, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
On top of that I meant to improve the article, not to delete it. ~~ Icon-Romania.png McKayRO|Say hello! 06:46, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
First of all that is not an article - that is a citizen page, mine. Secondly, it is quite fine, thank you, I doubt that you know Quicksilver's Ghost better than me. Thirdly, it is not opinion, but fact - and you can hardly improve facts. --Quicksilver 07:10, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
Citizen Pages are open to editing, though most people are cool about working with the player who created them. You might be confusing them with User pages, there is a difference. Also, just because Belea (or any editor for that matter) says this or that, does not mean the article can't be improved. Nor does it mean that it cannot be edited to make it NPOV and it is forever permanently locked from editing. Using words like "unfairly" clearly caries bias unless there is additional information to support it. You could even change it to read something like, "Quicksilver felt the ban was unfair ... ect." and that might work. There are also claims in the "voice of resentment" sections that need support. As it stands, it reads as if it is stating fact, but there is no support for those facts in the article. Did the admins feel the Quicksilver ban was unfair as well? If so, you might have grounds for the claim. Obviously there are two sides to the story - whatever those may be - but someone reading it is not going to know that unless they are included. If you don't feel it needs rewording, then that's ok. But don't get upset if other editors modify the article. And yes, they can edit that page. But it is best to discuss things instead of getting into a revert war, which might even lead to account suspension/deletion. Besides it will just end up with ugly tags all over it, and nobody likes to see those either. If the article said something like, "Quicksilver was rightfully banned" and didn't state why, I'd feel the same way. You just need to elaborate more, that's all. -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   07:50, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
The matter is elaborated in the Quicksilver page, where it needs to be elaborated - you only need to click on it and to read. And yes, I know that anyone can edit pages. But as it is about a person, I can hardly think that anyone can improve it who doesn't even know the person. The fact that Quicksilver was banned totally unfairly is proved in that page, and I don't think it needs to be repeated here too. This page is not about Quicksilver, but about Quicksilver's Ghost, and what she thinks of matters is a fact - nobody knows it better than me. And finally - Belea is an admin and the fact that he did not find anything questionable in the things written, that is an added proof for their truthfulness. In fact he apologised to me on the chat for this very thing, further proving what he thought about the unfairness of the ban. There are no two sides in this story: only truth and lies. I wrote the truth - admins wrote the lies about nonexisting flaming and other alleged law-breaking - that I have proved wrong to them too. As for the revert-war it was Rowan Quigley, who - as many editors know - hates me and wants to have his revenge by this (check the talk page, it is not me saying that!).--Quicksilver 08:03, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
One last thing I want to add. These quotes are from the last e-mail in which an admin said this about my ban: "Was your penalty applied fairly? Most probably not" and "Were you mistreated by this ban? Probably you were". This admin was not employed by erep when I was banned, and so saw it more clearly than the ones involved. This admin then went on to explain that I was not unbanned because instead of lying down like a whipped slave, I dared to stand up for my truth and loudly tell it everywhere - and they could not allow their own unfairness to became general knowledge. Is it proof enough for you now, Citizen 6?--Quicksilver 10:12, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
Can you provide quotes for that last part? What is the name (citizen name or real name) of the person you are quoting? Is this evidence referenced in your article(s) on this wiki? John F Baker Flag-UK.jpg Talk   Royal Navy 11:59, 18 May 2011 (PDT)

Can you provide quotes for that last part? What is the name (citizen name or real name) of the person you are quoting? Is this evidence referenced in your article(s) on this wiki?
John F Baker Flag-UK.jpg Talk   Royal Navy 13:48, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
I won't quote a whole e-mail for you. You are neither a jury, nor my judge to demand either that or the name of my correspondence. I have provided proof for the debated page, and that is all you shall ask. If two separate admins' words are not enough for you that is not my problem; it is yours, and your demand goes far beyond what wiki requires. It seems to me that you too are doing this also because of a personal dislike of me. --Quicksilver 14:06, 18 May 2011 (PDT)'
Listen, I don't know you personally, and tbh, I don't even know "of you". The only reason I recognise your name is because of your constant bawww'ing on this wiki. Stop your self-centred everyone is against me ;-; routine and communicate normally.
I'm asking, because you say the admin said these things, and you plaster them across your wiki pages, and yet you seem to be too touchy to reference the strongly biased sections of your pages. I'm asking as an everyday wiki editor, and you shall not tell me what I can and cannot ask.
You're only making enemies for yourself by constantly portraying yourself (and wrongly) as a victim on these wiki discussion pages. I think you forget we are all erepublik players, and we all have grudges of varying proportions against the admins.
Can we please just work collaboratively to deliver a well documented and fair description of this game, and not with some non-cited paranoia that we're all working against each other, nor with any pretentious beliefs that people dislike others without any basis for such ideas?
John F Baker Flag-UK.jpg Talk   Royal Navy 15:13, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
So the fully proved sections of my page are biased again? Why? I have cited all the proof you as a wiki editor need. I don't have to quote references for something that is NOT ON THE PAGE, now, am I? Because that is what you demanded, the 'last part', which was about the reason for not unbanning me. Check the page, there is nothing about that there... so why do I have to quote you a private e-mail for it? The part about unfair banning is proved by two admins' words, the rest is completely in line with that, so what else is there to prove? You see, this is why I consider your conduct against me personally: because your demand goes far beyond what can be expected from a supposedly neutral wiki editor. As for me being the subject of debate all the time... have I started this debate at all? Of course not! But once attacked, I chose to defend my truth, just as I did against admins. And I will always do so, no matter how derogatory you call it - it only shows that you are neither impartial, nor fair. If you have grudges against admins, then why are you not believing what I say about them - what some of them say about themselves? How the fuck can I reference an e-mail to the wiki? Shall I paste it here fully, just to be cited to court for disclosing a private conversation? Would that make you happy so they can delete the full page for it? You see, I wrote nothing but the truth, proved it here, an admin affirmed it, another's words also prove it - and it is still not enough for you? What would be enough? From your conduct, I guess nothing... and as for Rowan Quigley hating me, I will find you the chatlog - again, as you too has seen it, only chose to forget I guess. So much for non-cited paranoia... --Quicksilver 23:18, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
Quicksilver you have to understand 1 thing. To prove something you must give links, or rarely screenshots. I can also tell you I am Obama, but I am not. And I think Belea told you it's ok with the length, he is very busy, so i doubt he had the time to read the whole article, maybe he just read some keywords, and the fact that you are so easily offended when we say what you have to do to prove something right may express you have no references, I am not trying to incriminate you, I am saying that in a discussion like this you must be open to suggestions, OK? We are discussing here about your article, because the words may insult somebody, not because you had done something bad, I can't say neither that you are banned for a reason, nor unfair. I, like every reader of the wiki, have no reference to see if it is right. So in conclusion, we are discussing the article and the words like dictatura and cenzorship, and to have a fact you were banned unfairly. I think Belea would have a final word on this discussion. Creating a page for fictional countries on the mainspace

People have been making countries pages on the wiki of countries that don't exist yet for a while now, even myself whose been making one for San Marino. Can we make a page on the mainspace where people can see these pages, add to them and just have a bit of fun. The wiki has become very serious over the last few years and this can loosen us up a bit. It will be fun and get people involved in adding country campaigns. What do you guys say? Here is a list of the countries who are on the wiki:

+1 I do like the idea of grouping all of these as-yet-unestablished-ingame countries on the wiki, instead of scattering them around on userpages. The IKS for one, sets it's HQs in unestablished countries. It'd also stop people duplicating these things. Obviously, we would stop before another Avataronia thing occured; its not an actual country on earth :P
Maybe have an article Fictional countries, and link to each country as a sub-article? John F. Baker Flag-UK.jpg Talk   Royal Navy 05:45, 25 May 2011 (PDT)
-1 - Even though it is amazing that people do this. I disagree. The wiki is supposed to be serious. It is not supposed to be filled with fictional information, tales and stories (like today...). The purpose of it is that people can get game information and such. These countries do not exist. It can confuse new players. Now I am not saying that these should be disallowed, but I am saying that these should not appear on the mainspace. It can easily get out of hand with a ton of fictional countries. What happens if the country shows up? Will all the fictional information be deleted? What's the point then?. I believe there are more disadvantages than advantages. Please note again - it is great work, but it does not belong to mainspace. --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 14:20, 25 May 2011 (PDT)

+1 From the beginning, the wiki have will to have fictional content, to be erepublik and more. At least it's what Belea teach me past years here :). To be serious is only a part of the wiki, there is more to do :), so a big +1 for me. ~~ Azaret Icon-Paraguay.png déjame un mensaje (: 03:11, 26 May 2011 (PDT)

+1 I always fell in love with fictional things. eRepublik itself is not that intersting anymore since the possibilites you have are shortened day by day and the role-play & community makes this game still fun for me. not allowing fictional things would lead just create more boredom. --Icon-Germany.png Freiheitskaempfer | Talk 10:03, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

  • -1 - I couldn't care less about fictional content. All I know about them that they create arguments and if we allow some exceptions, people will want more and before we even knew, there's only peoples dreams in the wiki. But it's communitys decision - not mine. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 05:57, 26 May 2011 (PDT)
This is also another reason. The more fictional content get recognized the sooner this wiki will only be filled with stupid stories and tales, just like today. Fictional content is also used easily to insult other people. --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 06:18, 26 May 2011 (PDT)
"Fictional content is also used easily to insult other people" -- Im sorry, but that's a terrible excuse.
We moderate what people put on the wiki and remove insulting comments from regular articles, and I don't see why fictional content would be an exception. Ontop of that, can you reference any fictional country pages that insult anyone, or any fictional content at all (other than the Dio stuff) that really insults anyone?
"people will want more and before we even knew, there's only peoples dreams in the wiki" -- Again, we've defined this proposal as the creation of a Fictional countries page, for as-yet-uncreated countries, not fairy tale countries like Avataronia or Atlantis (country).
If you're annoyed with fictional content, go look at George Lemnaru's article, section modelling :/ John F. Baker Flag-UK.jpg Talk   Royal Navy 08:11, 26 May 2011 (PDT)
"We moderate what people put on the wiki and remove insulting comments from regular articles, and I don't see why fictional content would be an exception" Well apparently you haven't because there are plenty of pages that do this. On a side note I am curious why dio pages are an exception? Let's sart by fixing those pages first. There are a lot of citizen pages that are fictional and insulting as well.
What is the point of fictional pages of not yet created countries? What would they contain? Whatever they contain, since it's fictional, you can be sure there will be always someone who is against it. Let's take [[User:Logamac/Andorra] as example. "Current president logomac" and the logo - all decided by one person. This will 1) cause confusion among players, fictional template or not. 2) serves no purpose, if you want fictional - read a book or go to somebodys sandbox. This serves no purpose. The purpose of this wiki is not fictional content that has no relation to the game (no, Andorra does not eixst in the game - thus no relation). 3) fights because of different opinions. Perhaps I want Andorra to have another logo, who decides? 4) Useless. When the country becomes created - what will happen to the fictional information? Will it be removed? Will the authors agree with it? Will it have different sections?
I am not annoyed with fictional content. Fictional content that is related to the game is fine, as long as it follow rules (which a lot of them today do not). We need to fix the issue with the existing ones instead of pumping out a bunch of other fictional contents. George Lemnaru has nothing against that page. The circumstances are different here as well. But remove it if you want to - I don't care. --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 08:37, 26 May 2011 (PDT)
0 This is such a gray area I really don't know what would be best. I like the idea of fictional content for non-existent countries, but I could see it going whacky as being used as a precedent for content that becomes too fanciful and without consensus. Even the existing fictional countries would have to be altered significantly if those countries are added to the game at a later time. On the other hand, if you want to be technical, aren't things like the United States Armed Forces, or other military articles, fictitious in their own right. Technically they aren't recognized by an in-game mechanic as far as I know. But yet these do get full space on the wiki. I'm not opposed to something like a Fictitious Countries article to use as a springboard, but we would need some pretty well laid out policies about it, and it should not be used as an argument for fictional content outside the scope of what the article is designed for. We could be opening the wiki up to some problems. Either way, I'm not sure the fictitious country articles should be included as part of the wiki namespace, but I'd be willing to look at a single springboard article, because fictitious content is part of what the wiki is about - but only to a degree. The question is where we draw the line. This is a tough one. -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   03:59, 27 May 2011 (PDT)

I understand that people suggest themselves and are supposedly checked before being added. But who checks them, and who has the power to add and remove them? I'd like to see this list updated often, but I'm not sure whether I'm "allowed" to touch it :P John F. Baker Flag-UK.jpg Talk   Royal Navy 05:19, 26 May 2011 (PDT)

Good that you brought it up, even though I believe nobody reads the main page (could be wrong) --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 05:24, 26 May 2011 (PDT)
I say that Ubers and Sysops can add new ones. So go ahead. When you add them, check if the page really is worth mentioning at homepage. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 05:51, 26 May 2011 (PDT)

Country Maps and borders

I'm noticing a fair number of countries that are using maps showing "current" borders as their official Country_Map, including conquered non-original territories. What is the policy on this? It seems to me that the official country map of each nation should be one that only shows that countries original regions, and not adjustable to show conquered territories, or to show lost ones. My belief is based upon the fact that often these maps are updated at first, but eventually become unmaintained. Shouldn't they be only original territories, regardless of the current borders? -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   04:25, 27 May 2011 (PDT)

  • +1 for original regions. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 06:24, 27 May 2011 (PDT)
  • +1 agreed in general, although with large, long-lasting empires, it would make sense to me to see that map, instead of the original. John F. Baker Icon-UK.png (Talk | Contribs) 07:44, 27 May 2011 (PDT)
Perhaps those types of maps should be inserted into the country's history section under a different name, just not the Country_Map? -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   14:54, 27 May 2011 (PDT)
  • +1 Originals regions should be the only ones shown, as countries loose regions all the time it seems a waste. Unless it is Sweden or Slovakia, who have made Unions with other countries. They should show up. -- Icon-Belgium.png Mikhail Alexander 02:10, 28 May 2011 (PDT)
  • +1 Some time ago I added 'On the map' link under the flag, to dhow current regions. ~~ Icon-Romania.png McKayRO|Say hello! 08:23, 28 May 2011 (PDT)

Seems like a healthy consensus on this for the most part. Should this be included in the MoS (I don't know where it would fit in, maybe under the upload MoS?), or should we just do some self-policing? -- Flag-USA.jpg Citizen 6 Ribbon addition - Silver Award Star.png Talk   23:05, 30 May 2011 (PDT)
