The Democratic Socialist Party (abbr. DSP) was a left-wing party founded by Morgaroth and Oogieboogie3. The Democratic Socialist party was Icon-North Korea.png North Korea's very first Political Party. It was founded a day before the City Party. The DSP was mainly a congressional party that would average 1-2 Congress members. The highest amount of congress members the DSP saw was 4 members in congress. It never saw successful Presidential elections, mainly due to its minority status.

History

By the time the first North Korean party election came, it was taken over by William Shafer. Shafer changed the name several times in the period between the 16th of May and the 2nd of June[1], so the party was known in this short period as:

  • Kit Kat Party
  • Latin stuff
  • Church of Babes and Booze
  • Celio Party
  • Church of Babes and Booze
  • Korean Libertarian Party

In June 2009, Célio Azevedo won the party elections against Samuel Hodkin and refounded DSP around 19/06/2009. DSP was a short-lived party which was transformed on 26/06/2009 into the North Korean Communist Party. DSP had 25 members at the last count in June, and held as many as 4 seats (25 %) in Congress.

Most of the original Democratic Socialist Party members including its two founders helped establish a new official Socialist party in North Korea called the The North Korean Workers Party.
