On the 30th of June, 2010, Necrosis (AKA Glorious Failure), a game moderator, made one of the greatest rage-quits of all times [1].

Necrosis started the game as Glorious Failure, a UK citizen who lost his account when he posted his login information on the UK IRC channel. Goku Jones claimed responsibility for the theft, passing on the login details to another player. Glorious Failure ended his first quit after several hours, posting via his organization and then on a new character named Necrosis.

GF Day events started late on 30th June 2010, day 953 of the New World. A citizen of USA and a community moderator, Necrosis leaked his moderator account details on the US forums [2] around 17:15 eRepublik time [3]. He did so because of the deteriorating moral of many Americans and because the game was tiring, i.e. he "burnt out." [?] Many citizens accessed his mod account before the information was removed.

Leaked password caused many things like changing names of newspapers, moving them to another account, giving people medals and banning citizens. Banned citizens included current and former presidents, beta giants, famous media moguls, and even Dio Brando. The most epic of all the bannings was the banning of citizen number 2: Admin [4].

Admin Temporarily Banned

Many newspapers were moved from one account to another. Some newspaper's names were changed to insulting names. Some citizens moved newspapers between accounts in order to gain dozens of Media Mogul Medals.

eRepublik Insider

In addition to the widespread bannings, the eRepublik Insider was hacked and chaos ensued. The name and owner changed every few minutes, with new articles, all lulzy and sometimes sick graphic, appearing just as fast. In addition, the name of the paper was changed multiple times.

Banned citizens

Here are some high profile citizens banned.

Gaius Julius - Former President of USA

Jewitt - Former President of USA

Cerber - Former President of Poland

alexis bonte - CEO of eRepublik Labs. An Open Letter was made about unbanning him.

Dio Brando - Dioism God Emperor

Admins put eRepublik into maintenance at 23:30 eRepublik time. During maintenance, they rolled back all changes caused by Necrosis' moderator account.

The eRepublik team made an official announcement about this event. They said that almost 300 accounts were affected in one way or another. They also removed the access into administration tools from everyone, except eRepublik employees. The whole announcement can be found from eRepublik forums from thread Official Statement about the issue that encountered in the Day 953

In the USA this was considered most fun night of eRepublik history[5]. Much of the fun is summed up in a short article by Former US President Woxan: "Russia, I'ma Let You Finish". The US Congress has voted to officially declare June 30th a national holiday (GF Day: The Day the eWorld Burned).[6] It passed unanimously.

The Poem

On July 1st, Robert Loggia wrote a poem to commemorate the occasion, and many in the United States tell this tale to their children as they tuck them into bed every June 30th. The poem contains references to several prominent American citizens and two British citizens of its time, one of eRepublik's founders and his lover, a few older citizens, and a party/terrorist organization. It can be found in Loggia's newspaper, and it is titled A Visit from St. Necrosis.

The poem its entirety:

Twas the night before July 1st when all through the game,
Not a creature was stirring, not even GLaDOS;
The Q5 weapons were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Necrosis would soon be there;
The two clickers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Lana danced in their heads;
And Claire in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just blew all our gold on useless crap,
When out on the lawn arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the Q5 bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen bugs
Gave the lustre of Beta to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But publicized mod login information, and many banned citizens,
With a British driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be GF.
More rapid than headless chickens his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
“Now, Woldy! now, Scrabman! now, Harrison Richardson!
On, Dan Wang! on, Dio! on, Halfie and Aiden!
To the top of the page! to the top of the menus!
Now ban away! ban away! ban away all!”
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the page top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of gifts, and St. Necrosis too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the forums
The confusion and shock of each little member.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Necrosis came with a bound.
He was dressed in a trenchcoat, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all covered with Emerick's spunk;
A bundle of gifts he had flung on his back,
And he looked like George Lemnaru with his buttered six-pack.
His eyes—how they looked like blotches of ink! his dimples just the same!
His cheeks were like... blotches of ink, his nose... blotches of ink too!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like trollface.jpg
And the beard of his chin resembled Pierric's nether regions;
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a nagging Plato;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
To be honest, looking sort of like Justinious.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old Brit,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And banned all the people; then took a break for a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his mouse,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his SEES, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle,
But I heard him exclaim, ere he banned out of sight,
“Happy GF Day to all, and to all a good-night.”
