The Gyros News Corporation is a Greek media company that is best known for publishing the Gyros Chronicle, a Greek newspaper of record. The Chronicle, published in the Greek city of Alexandroupoli, was the first paper across the globe to report on the Turkish payment of 500 gold to the United States government to cancel the American-Greek mutual protection pact in the days leading up to the First Balkan War.

History

The Gyros News Corporation was founded in June 2008 as a press venture funded by prominent Greek politician John Daker. Though its news reporting was relatively unbiased, its editorial section had a defined slant in favor of the up-and-coming Greek Republic Resistance.

In July 2008, Gyros News Corporation signed a deal allowing Turkish paper Autodeterminism to reprint Gyros News articles. A few days later, Gyros News announced the launch of Gyros News Türkiye, a Turkish language edition of the Gyros Chronicle focusing on articles of Turkish, regional, and international interest with the purpose of fostering Greek-Turkish relations and bridging the language gap between the two countries.

On August 1, 2008, Gyros News expanded to two war allies of Greece, Romania and Pakistan, establishing press offices to publish the Mititei Chronicle in Romania and the Sand Chronicle in Pakistan. The expansion strained the small company, however, and the Pakistani and Romanian press offices were closed down shortly after their openings. When CEO John Daker died on August 28, the Gyros News Corporation shut down.

Re-launch

In May 2009, the Gyros News Corporation was purchased by a lifelong friend and confidante of John Daker's, Nicolae Carpathia. On its first day of operation, the Gyros Chronicle reported on the American-Irish wargames, which Greece had just begun to participate in amidst sharp debate in Britain and Ireland about the wargames' execution.
