Military Decorations, Medals and Insignia of the New Zealand Defence Force

Rules of Usage

Members of the New Zealand Defence Forces are only allowed to wear these on their avatar or eRepublik wiki pages if they:

  1. Are of the rank specified as regards to insignia.
  2. Have fought in the campaign as regards to the campaign medals.
  3. Have served in that specific section for at least one month with regards to the service medals.

While each service has its own order of precedence, the following general rules apply to all services:

  1. Personal Military Honours and Awards, by order of importance
  2. Military Service Awards for Special Forces
  3. Military Service Awards for the NZ Army
  4. Military Campaign Awards in order of time

Military Decorations

Military Service Awards

The following awards are given for military service of more than one month in any one of the sections of the New Zealand Defence Forces:

  • Ribbon - New Zealand Army Service.png New Zealand Army Service Medal (For being in the army for 1 month)
  • Ribbon - New Zealand SAS Service.png New Zealand SAS Service Medal (For being in the army for 6 months)
  • Ribbon - New Zealand Command Service.png New Zealand Command Service Medal (For being in the army for 1 year or more)

Military Campaign Awards

The following ribbons are given to all those soldiers who have fought in the respective wars and battles of the military campaigns which the New Zealand Armed Forces have participated in:

Personal Military Medals

The following medals are awarded exclusively by Central Command to soldiers for distinguished service in the NZ Defence Forces and also carry post-nominal letters.

Victoria Cross for New Zealand

Victoria Cross for New Zealand

The VCNZ shall be awarded to any member of the New Zealand Defence Force who not only consistently perform their tasks to the absolute best of their abilities, but go far above and beyond what’s expected of them, and show an extraordinary level of dedication and service to the New Zealand Defence Force. The VCNZ can further be awarded for a series of significant sacrifices that drastically and positively benefit the New Zealand Defence Force.

Alternatively, a recipient can wear the Victoria Cross NZ ribbon, as shown below:

New Zealand Cross

New Zealand Cross

The NZC shall be awarded to any member of the New Zealand Defence Force who not only consistently perform their tasks to the best of their abilities but go above and beyond what’s expected of them for the betterment of the entire New Zealand Defence Force. The NZC can further be awarded for a short series of sacrifices which benefit the entire New Zealand Defence Force.

Alternatively, a recipient can wear the New Zealand Cross Cross ribbon, as shown below:

Distinguished Service Cross

The Distinguished Service Cross medal

The DSC will be awarded to any officer of the New Zealand Defence Force who, through a sustained period, shows outstanding leadership. The DSC will be automatically awarded to anyone who reaches the position of Branch Commanding Officer, unless decided otherwise by the Prime Minister, Chief of the Defence Force, or by a vote of the Defence Council.

Alternatively, a recipient can wear the Distinguished Service Cross ribbon, as shown below:

Military Cross

The Military Cross

The MC shall be awarded to any member of the New Zealand Defence Force who not only consistently perform their tasks to the best of their abilities but go above and beyond what’s expected of them and show an extraordinary level of dedication to their branch. The MC can further be awarded for a short series of significant sacrifices which has a drastic and positive impact on the branch, which without their input, would have severely hampered the ability of their branch to function.

Queen's Service Medal

The Queen's Service Ribbon

The QSM shall be awarded to any member of the New Zealand Defence Force who not only consistently perform their tasks to the best of their abilities, but go above and beyond what is required of them for the betterment of their regiment or branch.

Mentioned in Despatches (MID)

The MID shall be awarded to any member of the New Zealand Defence Force who not only consistently perform their tasks to the best of their abilities, usually after one month or more. The MID can further be awarded for persistent IRC or forum activity, and dedicated service within their military community.

A recipient can wear the Mentioned in Despatches upon the service ribbon of which he was a part of, at the time of receiving the award.
* The Mentioned in Dispatches award overrides any service ribbons already worn. However, one can only wear one of each service MID ribbon, and must wear the ribbon belonging to the branch he was a member of at the time of receiving the award.
