"Did you Know?" section

I suggest we follow this format for the "Did you Know?" section:

Selected Biography

At the moment only malta_1990 is there, is it possible to add more biographies? --QWERTY95 08:49, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Changes to the eUnited Kingdom portal

Hi guys Many of you won't know who the Hell I am, and will probably ask what right I have to go around and say what could be done to make things better. If you're one of those people, sorry, but I can't shut up. :D

Anyway, I'd like to make a few suggestions for the Wiki, but I'd like to focus more on the eUK portal and what it links to. I think the best way to do this is by going through the page individually. Well, it may not be the best way to do it, but awell. Shall I begin?

First part: The Hyperlinks at the top. How they're presented isn't really bad. Its kinda good in a way, but they could maybe link to some things better.

- Do we really need the Rules linked to eRepublik laws? If the eUK has its own laws, then we should use those there, but if not, maybe its a wasted hyperlink. - I think the History link is fine, although it needs to be updated with the conquest of Norde-Norge and Vestalandt (although we've lost them, it may be worth to note), and it may be worth mentioning Canada's partial invasion of the eUK. - The Education link is peculiar, as it is linked to the job description of the Ministry of Education. Could there maybe be a new page about education whch includes the mentoring system (maybe with statements from people there), and then a link sprouting off here for tutorials? That way, there will no longer be a need for the "tutorial" hyperlink, and there will be a more comprehensive section on education. - I'm not going to bother saying anything about the government hyperlink except maybe it could be possible if there was a small paragraph or two at the top explaining elections? I know you can learn about elections elsewhere in the wiki, but the eUK portal would be used more if all (or most) you could need is based off that one page. - On the basis of pruning down some links and making others more comprehensive, do we need the FAQ link? You could link the FAQ into the tutorial page which would be placed in the Education section. - The Cabinet links to the eUK page. I'll assume that its supposed to link to the Politics section of that page, so I'll say that its okay for now. - Instead of the Military linking to the same UK page as the Cabinet, maybe it could link straight back into the portal page here? (I linked that because not even I knew what I was on about).

Thats the big circly URL thing completed. If all these are done, we will be left with 5 amount of URLs: History, Education, Government, Cabinet and Military. Oh, if there are UK rules then 6. Those can be done evenly around the circle, nonetheless.

Part two: The statuses. Status'? Stati? There's nothing immedietly wrong with this, except maybe some out dated stuff. Anyway, on with the suggestion:

- The regions list looks a bit... scribbled down. If I'm going to be honest, I'm not entirely sure how we could resolve this. Does anyone have any suggestions for it? Maybe a small table with them? The problem with the table is that some of the regions have fairly long names (East of England, West Midlands, Yorkshire & Humberside).* - Maybe the Alliance list can be changed so we have the icon, then the date that it ends, for example: Russia - 7th December France - 2nd November. I know these aren't real Alliances, with their correct dates, but they're examples.* - Update wars to UK v Canada

  • I've done these two, as all it is is replacing a small chunk of text into two seperate tables.

Part three: Current government - I see nothing wrong with the current government page. Well done to whoever made it. :)

Part four: The rest (Omg nearly there!) I personally think the rest of it is the worst part of the whole portal page. I'm not trying to offend any creators of this part. Everyone may disagree with me. Anyway, we're nearly there.

- Take away the world news part. Its out dated and frankly unnessecary. - Make the selected Biography bigger. Either allow it to add more info on the one player, or two people. - Change the biography once a week. - Either keep the local news a LOT more updated (maybe a title of a newspaper and link it to the newspaper article), or remove it. - The eRepublik thing at the bottom is fine, although I haven't tried out the hyperlinks for myself. To support myself, the FAQ and rules are here anyway.

This isn't a one-man show, can I have some feedback from all the wiki team on what they think about these suggestions? They'll definately take some time to implement, and one or two of them do involve re-writing major parts of the UK wiki, but I'm sure it will be worth it in the long term. Heh, atleast the UK Wiki would have been regenerated. :)

The idea of this for the whole UK part of the wiki is, "less, but more comprehensive pages". Comments are needed!

These are suggestions, so... well.
