Pre-Canadian War

Once President King decided to retire after his third term, a relatively new citizen named Nave Saikiliah became the front runner for the elections. King's retirement sent the Democratic Party into a spiral, with uncertainty as to commitment from George, it's Party President by default (and founder). Nave's journey led him initially to the Libertarian Party founded by Jes Maximus. He was one of President Kings most vocal critics, often getting into economic debates on policy. Once in office, he changed King's exchange rates from 12 USD per Gold to 53, and the value of Gold to US to 0.02. This greatly helped to increase our treasury and stabilize our markets, as well as promote new business ventures to increase supply and productivity among our citizens.

Over time, with the looming implementation of the war module towards the end of March, the newest feature introduced to eRepublik was the Mutual Protection Pact. This feature allowed allies to defend each other without needing to relocate. President Saikiliah wisely used these, setting up several before the implementation of the war module, securing the borders of the United States from possible attack.

While it has been disputed, the Canadian war has been attributed to several things. First, the US Economy was in a serious state of deflation. The currency was too valuable, the markets were too cheap, and while it promoted activity it made running a business that much more difficult. Even with the import taxes raised and foreign goods staying out of the markets, U.S. goods simply were not selling.

Detailed map of belligerents during the USA-Canada War

Rumblings were heard from a decent bit of the US population that they wanted to test the war module, and that the US should pick a target. During this period, the US worked out the Pan-American agreement with the countries south of its borders, leaving Canada as the only possible target. Canada's population at the time was small, with an active population even smaller, and it was thought that the US would easily be able to conquer Canada. Doing so would expand its borders and solve many of its current economic issues relating to deflation and necessity. Preparations began on March 24, 2008 for the ill-fated attack on Manitoba.

The United States Department of Defense, founded and led by Dishmcds (who later became the third President), had been organizing itself for some time, dating back to the second week of January. While the US had a relatively small active population, most of the military was in the form of Mobile Defense Teams, or MDTs as they were called. When the order was given, they were moved to St Paul, MN as a base for attack, and ordered to attack Manitoba. By taking Manitoba, strategically it would have cut Ontario off from the rest of the country, leaving only Quebec as its main support.

The release of the war module was delayed from March 28th (original planned date) to April 7th to allow for elections to process. They released the official wiki guide on the war module just a couple of days before the war, which changed the entire outlook for the US. While they still focused on Manitoba, the defending country as well as the attacking country were allowed to enter conflict anywhere there was an open battlefield. This negated the obvious advantage the US would have had in strategic planning on the Canadian capital.

The US initially canceled the proposal for war that President Saikiliah sent due to a bug in the MPP section of eRepublik that indicated that Canada had an MPP with Sweden. Once it was confirmed that Sweden and Canada were not allied, President Saikiliah sent forth another proposal to invade Canada. It was approved 22 to 5.

With the additional three days leeway, Canada was able to muster quite a bit of international support. Volunteers and countries both sent troops to Canada, the reasons for which have been disputed. Some say it's because they were supporting a nation's inherent right to sovereignty, others will say it's because they wanted to test out the war module. Either way, the US's clear advantage in population decreased severely, from an initial advantage of more than 400 to less than 200. Combined with the defense bonus (which was adjusted mid-war during an admin-ordered cease fire), Canada did very well in defending it's own provinces, as well as threatening several US regions. The US President, Nave Saikiliah, spent most of the last battle in Manitoba severely damaging the health of Canadian soldiers in an effort to force the cease fire.

Overall, the Canadian war shaped the future's for both countries in very different ways. Once a peace agreement was made between President Saikiliah and President Faltnor, both countries were forced in opposite directions. The US went under a time of turmoil, as indicated by the resignation of long standing Secretary of Defense Dishmcds to the secession of Hawaii to become its own independent Nation. Ironically, Former President King was the Mayor of Honolulu during the attempt, and its validity is still scrutinized. Officially, Hawaii is still recognized as a region under the govern of the United States.

Post War Reconstruction

Much of the month of May was spent rebuilding the American psyche and economy. President Saikiliah was re-elected President, despite many claims that the war was his fault. His promise to the American people, was that if elected he would spend his entire term working on the health of the American people, and rebuilding the economy to its pre-war success. In many ways he accomplished those goals. In the third week of May, Pearlswine was appointed by Dishmcds to take over the National Gifting program, and the US's average wellness saw an immediate increase. President Saikiliah left his last term in office with many accomplishments on his record.

New Foreign Policies shape the US's future

On June 1st, Dishmcds was elected by a 16 vote margin to be the successor and next President of the United States. His campaign relied on his experience, and promised to provide healthcare to all citizens in the form of the National Gifting Program, hospitals, and improving our foreign relations abroad. The US has long been known for the wide array of Mutual Protection Pacts that it carries, which is largely accredited for keeping its borders safe.

On June 3rd, just two days after he took office, the US placed it's first Q4 hospital in Austin, TX, immediately delivering on a campaign promise he had made. He continued to work on the relationships the US had with foreign countries both friendly and neutral, and during his first term added Romania as allies. The US would quickly be tested, as on June 10th Indonesia declared war against South Africa. The move would give Indonesia access to the Western Hemisphere, which the United States was largely against. South Africa, at the time, had only two other Protection Pacts, being Venezuela and Argentina. Other countries rallied around South Africa as well, including Australian refugees, the United Kingdom, Spain, and freedom fighters from around the world.

NAP secures Northern Borders

One of the goals that Dishmcds had set out for himself while in office was to sign a Non-Aggresion Pact between the United States and Canada. The contract, firm in both intent and meaning, makes the borders between the US and Canada secure indefinitely. While the move was both applauded and criticized, it had some points that were firsts in eRepublik history.

For starters, neither country could withdraw from the NAP without permission from the other (and in Canada's case its Congress). This means for either country to cancel the agreement, the other country must also agree. Second, if one country breaks the treaty, then it requires that country to pay, out of all available funds, 75% of the treasury. This means all Organizations, including National Banks or Governmental Departments are accessible to pay the fine.

Overall, relations between the US and Canada are much improved since the war between them. With the NAP keeping their borders secure, both countries began to communicate freely even though they belonged to different alliances (US belonging to the Pan American Alliance and Canada to the MA).

America and its Growing Population

From the time period between the end of July and the middle of August, the USA reported rapid growth in population. More than doubling it's size in about two weeks, the USA reached the 3rd ranked country in eRepublik with around 3300 citizens. With the new players flooding into the country, economic possibilities grew as numerous Q1 companies from every industry being to take root. along with the new companies, came the surge of employees in America. With a long period of peace, combined with the spike in employees and production, the USA began to undergo a time of over production. President Archibald did what was necessary to balance the new economical situation by printing more currency and changing the tax structure. The over production situation allowed the companies in the USA to export, or prepare to export as the next war would give them the chance to sell out. Products became generally cheaper with competition in the market and citizens around the country benefited from this economical state.

The surge of new players in the USA also widened the gap in the USA's political structure. While the Libertarian Party gaining over 550 members, the Democratic Party gained only about 160 members. Party line voting increased as the gap between the top five parties widened because of how uneducated the new players were in the game.

This inspired citizens such as Uncle Sam and Justinious Mcwalburgson III to bring the USA into a time period which they called the Re-educational period. Older players using their knowledge used the media to help teach the new players about the basics of the game. Finding active new players was another task that was required during the Re-educational period. Using the eUSA chat and the media to find which new players would make a difference for the country, the USA's active population grew with the population spike.
