Embed Problem

There is need for other authors to give their input here Talk:Embed We call side one X and side two Y. It's what they said in a short summary.

Claim by Y: Ma1kel is a /v/akistani.

Y: Ma1kel said himself he is "Pakistani"

X: Ma1kel himself in his biography wrote he is Mexican. Now that he comes in the talk page and says he is "Pakistani" he could be under pressure.

Claim by Y: a /v/akistani wrote about this in irc and all pakis came back.

Y: We got chatlog.

X: So far there is no chatlog and the main thing is that it is not even neccesary to write this. Should I write that Iranians also came back for this for example? No, because it has no place in it. --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 10:16, 5 February 2009 (PST)

Claim by Y: "embed ... brought some Pakistanis back from dead"

Y: We have a news article with 12 votes and a few comments of people coming back.

X: 12 Votes is not equal to "Pakistanis" coming back, and those who posted in the comments are still active (for example Dr Tanner). There is no evidence that "Pakistanis" left. There is no need for this to even be mentioned, it's supposed to be a fair and neutral wiki.

Claim by Y: "embed caused users to post Bomb Iran videos"

Y: We remember it was a youtube video.

X: So far there is no link giving to this video or anything similiar. It has more than two days and there is still no source.

Claim by Y: "embed caused a great v1 party"

Y: It was a party because it is our opinion, because threads by us existed with videos and changed backgrounds.

X: Everyone does not share your opinion. My opinion is that was spamming and annoying along with other peoples opinion.

Please everyone give your opinion to this or join Talk:Embed --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 08:41, 2 February 2009 (PST)

Translation #2

Ok, translators are spreading, so we should shape them all.

Main problems ATM

Although the ppl that check RC can control "normal" edits, only a few can check localized ones. For the moment no problem has arose with foreign editors, cause they've mostly translated, and translating is less prone to produce discussions, compared to creating new content which may arise several quarrels.

My idea: create a "Translation bureau" composed of (supposedly) expert users, which are trustable. I can monitor Italian pages, but IMHO we need more people for the other languages. I guess Nevuglia, emredo and many others are willing to help. --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core have a biscuit 14:12, 2 February 2009 (PST)

+1 good idea. We need language representatives that know how to use the appropriate menus and templates to translate (and who can show others). These people also need to check other pages in their native languages to verify translation (everyone needs an editor!)
+1 Need any help with it? As in - a strategy or something like that? How do you see the whole idea of Translation bureau? --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 09:44, 5 February 2009 (PST)

Ok, my draft for translation bureau: every language has a page named eRepublik:Translation Bureau/LANGUAGE, and these pages are linked (obviously), by {{LangMenu}}. Then they can have sub-pages for Bar, todo, discussion. I'm gonna draft it in my userspace --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core have a biscuit 13:36, 7 February 2009 (PST)

+1 Marvelous way to organize all of the translation efforts. Also, it sounds relatively easy to set up. - –Dr. AgentChieftain Flag of the Crescent and Star PPP! B / C / D / F / P / S 13:39, 7 February 2009 (PST)

From RC patrolling I noticed that the Translation Bureau idea was dropped and that a Bar in every language was chosen instead.
Did I understand correctly?
Also, good work (and a brilliant idea) (again). --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 01:09, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

New pages

Translating old pages and templates works well; I fortunately managed to shape it in a (luckily) convenient form, which allows many nifty things. What about pages that just wont be translated into English? I'm thinking, for an example, at the complex hierarchy of Tutorial, which goes far from mere translation. Should we allow them in the main namespace? Should we create namespaces for different languages? --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core have a biscuit 14:12, 2 February 2009 (PST)

I am unsure. The "bloom" of translated pages is amazing. I don't want to stifle the translations, but I am concerned about appropriate organization and maintaining proper categorization. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 08:04, 3 February 2009 (PST)
I do not see the point in having multiple name spaces in different languages. As in, any page which is created in a different language can be translated in English by the author or by someone else. Am I missing something? --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 09:46, 5 February 2009 (PST)

Mexico's flag

Game Icons

A lot of us use the same icons over and over again. To make things easier, there is a category called Category:Game Icons. These are the standard icons we should all be using. So if you are still using old Beta graphics - it is time for an upgrade! And if there is an icon from the game in the wiki that isn't in the category, feel free to add it. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 11:39, 3 February 2009 (PST)

Czechoslovak version

Hello, Czech and Slovak community wants make Czechoslovak language version. Czech and Slovak are very similiar language (somewhat as two dialects of same language). We both have very small active communities and all its citizens are in favour of this idea. So when I was asked if I am interested in Czech e-wiki, I propose this what was already agreed. How its in other games? In majority of games which I have played when was created Czech or Slovak version, there wasnt need make another. However, we will make straight competences which articles should be in Czech and which in Slovak to make possible further dividing to two language version. Language should be called Czechoslovak and flags should be Czech and Slovak, so it would look like current English with US and UK flags. It was told me rather ask there, so what are yours opinions? If you are not sure if Slovaks agree, here is poll - Red Duck

Makes sense to me! I see no reason not to proceed. Ask User:MiniBill, all knowing mage of the Template:LangMenu, to add Czechoslovak to the list. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 08:25, 5 February 2009 (PST)
I will do. Thank you for response and bright day:)Red Duck
Okay. Then create the same pages and in LangMenu put both flags and both countries - example:
.... (flag country1)/(flag country 2) (name country one)/(name country 2)....
I don't think it is a good idea to use the term "Czechoslovakia" because in eRepublik they are 2 different countries. --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 09:51, 5 February 2009 (PST)
We are using the term "Czechoslovak" as the language, not the country (we aren't trying to reunify them) :). We could also use the term "Czech-Slovak" for the language if that makes more sense? --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 10:06, 5 February 2009 (PST)
"Romanian" is written in Romanian, "Persian" is written in Persian. For the word "Czechoslovak" - the term used is the same in the two countries? --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 10:25, 5 February 2009 (PST)
"The Czech and Slovak languages are mutually intelligible which means that even after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia Czech may be used in all official proceedings and documents in Slovakia, and vice versa." The language might be called Czech in one region and Slovakian in another but they are dialects of the same language "Czech-Slovak" -- QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 10:35, 5 February 2009 (PST)
Czechoslovak or Czecho-Slovak, thats not important. I should provide you historical info and arguments for both versions, but one is sure, we want common language in e-wiki and would be very happy if it would be so. We still have not large communities to administrate two languages in satisfactory way but with strict rules proposed common language version should be adequate to other languages. Thank you for your support. Red Duck
I only need one information to do it: the name of your language, in the language itself --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core have a biscuit 13:35, 5 February 2009 (PST)
"Čeština/Slovenčina" would be maybe best, "Českoslovenština" if "/" would be problem. Red Duck

List of Congressmen

These are all of the pages associated with my new congressmen organization idea:

  • List of Congressmen
  • Template:Congress
  • Template:Congress Table
  • Template:Congress Countries
  • Template:Congress Table/country
  • Template:Congress Table/region
  • Template:Congress Table/party

They are all complete (I mean it this time). Tell me what you think because I think they're ready for some large scale testing. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 20:46, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Right now, the most current challenge is creating a spot for each country on the List of Congressmen page. The good news is, for every consecutive election, it will be as easy as copying and pasting, only having to worry about minute changes in regions/parties. Once this system is out there, I think it will be a great success. This is one of my major problems. The system was entirely under my user. Once this thing is up and running, there will be thousands of pages under my user that will need redirecting and everything like that. I propose that since this would be such a great task, that I go ahead and introduce this to the wiki and remove my user name from the beginning of all of the pages in order to make the transition quick and painless. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 23:38, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

+1, although:
  1. The code is really messy, and needs clean-up
  2. You should think about data replication, which will be immense!

So, my vote is: ok, move to main ns, but wait before using it --Mini "Template" Bill Italian in the deep core bother me! 14:17, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

>The code is really messy, and needs clean-up
Singed. I dropped an eye (or two) on the whole code of the idea (from all the pages) and I realized that I have no idea where to start if I want to change something in it. Like I stated in another place and time, please think for a few minutes at us "mortals" (a.k.a. non-coders) and take time to clean the code and make it so that it can be easy to understand/modify.
And I agree (with miniBill and you) that you can move the template to Main space any time you wish.
Good work, by the way! --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 01:19, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
I have, what a coder would consider, zero experience. I'm in a high school programming class learning java. I basically taught myself how to use wiki-type editing just by looking at some templates, along with a little know-how of what certain commands mean. Any ways, this topic has been up for like four days, so I'm going to get started on taking everything to the main NS. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 20:01, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

UBER EDITORS, HELP ME! I have a new dilemma. In my current system, the full list of congressmen would be entered into a page like Congress/January 2009/Australia, then the code from that page would be copied to a page like Congress/January 2009/Australia/Victoria where a specification would be made to only display the congressmen from said region/party. What is bugging me is that if there is an edit on the first page, then that edit does not show up on all of the subsidiary pages since the code was copied and not linked to it somehow. The task at hand is to find that link. Once Congress/January 2009/Australia is made, Congress/January 2009/Australia/Victoria should automatically be updated with the appropriate list. Please help me figure out how to do this. I don't expect you to write up the code; just give me an idea of how to do it. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 21:17, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

The {{page}} is not restricted to the Template NS, if you want to include "normal" pages just prefix the pagename with a colon. --Mini "Template" Bill Italian in the deep core bother me! 13:38, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I wasn't really clear on what I needed. Take a look at these three pages: 1, 2, 3. Number 1 is a template. Number 2 is some page that calls up the template. Number 3 is a page that I am trying to embed into number 2. I want to take the code from page 3 and input it into the template on page 2 so that I use that code to call up the template. Is there a way to embed another page into a template call-up on another page???????? -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 06:08, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

I was wondering how about having an IRC on lets say Rizon server for the wiki?? so anyone who has a problem and needs it to be solved can come there and ask, any uber editor there or any experienced editor can quickly help the person. This way the person wont lost interest in wiki editing as some people lose interest if they cannot do something immediately and we would have better wiki pages out there.-------Srachit

There is one. Last time I checked it was ran by someone who hardly did anything on the wiki and who had given power to non-sysops. Whenever it is officially ran by the Erepublik staff then it would be something. I can not remember the link, but I think it is on rizon, try #e-wiki or #erepublik-wiki etc. --Aryamehr Flag of Iran talk 19:10, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

If you're worried about the owner, it can be changed by Princess using /cs set #wiki founder. My idea:

  1. "Official" channel -> good (It would be good to have a central union point for wiki editors, aside for the Bar, which is for longer talks)
  2. "wigs" owned -> bad (I prefer it being owned by Uber Editors, a list which includes many of the most active editors, and can be expanded)
  3. many people -> good (self-explanatory)
  4. "controlled" speech -> bad (I want to speak without thinking about controlling the things I write)

Just my two pence --Mini "Template" Bill Italian in the deep core bother me! 21:54, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Relevance debates

A contributor sees an article. He/she considers that it can be improved. In this case two things are taking place:

  • he/she considers that some parts need to be removed - I suggest stating the reasons in the talk page (no relevance to the whole article, very biased and it cannot be reworded, etc.) - keep in mind that almost any statement can be rephrased.
  • he/she considers some parts to be biased - I suggest writing in the talk page a suggestion for rewording.

All of the above can be done in the same time as improving the actual article. Just my personal opinion (again)! --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 22:51, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Apparently, the "Portal" namespace did not existed. It was created, but some pages are not available for the moment (example: "Portal:Military"). Some maintenance scripts must be applied on the server. Please have patience and do not modify the pages that do not work! --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 09:24, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

The following Name spaces were added:

  • Contract - the team will release as soon as possible information regarding moving of Contracts in the Wiki
  • Portal - the existing 3 portals were temporarily moved and they will have to be moved back
  • Beta - all pages with "Beta/" in the name will have to be moved to this namespace so that these pages do not appear when citizen search for a certain idea
  • Suggestion - just an idea for the moment.

Also, the following lines were added to LocalSettings.php:

$wgNamespacesToBeSearchedDefault = array(
	NS_MAIN =>		true,

Also, portals can be done only using the Portal namespace (without using the Template Namespace). Example: moving all these templates to the Portal namespace. More detailed example: move the page Template:Portal:Dioism/Selected article/2 to Portal:Dioism/Selected article/2 and transclude it with the same name {{Portal:Dioism/Selected article/2}} - What do you think? (my opinion is that we should use the Template Name space only to create templates for the Main space)--Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 10:19, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Also, if no one has the time or energy to fix all the red links in the Beta namespace - so that all the links (including the ones that work) point to a "Beta:" page, I will do it in a few days. --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 19:59, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Indonesian version

Log 05:03, 26 February 2009 (UTC) , Indonesian editor wants to create Indonesian version for the bar? Any suggestion, where to start? Or any references from the existing version? Please help me and tell me what to do first? Because I do not know where to start. I made some pages about regions of Philippines. Thanks for checking it. I think it's really important to start Indonesian version ASAP because lot of activity and political movements done by Indonesia, if I delay it since no one takes initiative, it will be troublesome to track back the history in the future, I mean, we are losing the time to track the missing key. Anyone from Indonesia want to lend me a hand?? (For data mining a.k.a. collecting data)

Not from Indonesia, but can help you. Just a small question: what's the name of your language? --Mini "Template" Bill Italian in the deep core bother me! 17:11, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
Bahasa Indonesia is the name of our language. I think I need to chat, through yahoo messenger with someone experienced about this wiki. Lots of things to be asked for (technical reason). uhm, I am fast learner.. Do not worry. ~ Log 13:12, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

To create a new Bar, just edit Bar/Bahasa Indonesia, copying the structure from existing bars. Then check the other bars, I've put there some infos on how to translate the header --Mini "Template" Bill Italian in the deep core bother me! 14:01, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

eRepublik Official Wiki:Citizen_Page_Tutorial/Bahasa_Indonesia I start from here, not finish I start from the content first. ~ Log 01:50, 01 March 2009 (UTC)
