Gyeonsangnam-do languished as a backwater region until the eSK goonrush in March & April 2009 caused an invasion of South Korea by the Chinese China-South Korea War. With the industrial centre of Gyeonggi-do overrun and doubts about the capability to retain Chungcheongnam-do surfacing, Gyeongsangnam-do's location surrounded by friendly Japanese occupied regions saw the movement of capital and population into the region jump to record highs.
