The Bulgaria-Bosnia and Herzegovina Rental Conflict was a conflict in which Icon-Bulgaria.png Bulgaria rented a region from the PTO government of Icon-Bosnia and Herzegovina.png Bosnia and Herzegovina and was later liberated by EDEN forces.

Prelude

Bulgaria didn't have an high-resource region which was a major setback to its economy. The strength of the Bulgarian army was average and could not compete with that of its stronger neighbors. The only option was to rent a high region. Initially, the plan was to rent a region from Icon-Iran.png Iran, a Phoenix country. After the negotiation with Iran reached a stalemate, the Bulgarians decided to rent a Bosnian region. Bosnia and Herzegovina was an EDEN member, but was PTOed by Icon-Serbia.png Serbia, another Phoenix country.

Forces

Phoenix

Bulgaria was aided by Serbia and the Serbian PTOers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the battles for Federation of BiH, Ruse and Varna, Bulgaria received help from other Phoenix countries.

EDEN

The original population of Bosnia and Herzegovina was aided by EDEN forces with Romania attacking Bulgaria directly.

The Conflict

The Rental

The procedure to move Bulgaria to Federation of BiH started on August 17, 2010. The PTO government of Bosnia and Herzegovina declared war on Serbia and conquered Western Serbia, Raska and Southern Serbia. Then it attacked Eastern Serbia so that Bulgaria (which had an MPP with Serbia) automatically declared war on Bosnia and Herzegovina without having to pay for it. Bulgaria then moved forward through the created landbridge and conquered the Federation of BiH region. All of those battles were done with the attack-retreat method (the defending country would retreat the region so that the attacking country could conquer the regions faster). After Bulgaria had reached the Federation of BiH, in the next days it returned the rest of the regions which were used in making the landbridge. A contract was made between Bulgaria and Serbia about the rental of the Federation of BiH.

The Bosnian Troll Squad

The local population wasn't happy with the rental because it didn't feel that the PTO government had the right to rent its regions to enemy countries. In the weeks following the rental the Bosnian Troll Squad spammed the Bulgarian News Section. Many Croatian players were also helping the Bosnians.

The Change of Government

The Serbian PTO group lost the presidential elections on September 5, 2010, and in the next two days, Bulgaria and Serbia conquered the rest of Bosnia and Herzegovina's regions. The Bosnian people, however, had started to rise against the Serbians and were looking forward to liberating Federation of BiH.

The Battle for Federation of BiH

On September 7, 2010, Romania attacked Bulgaria in Ruse. Bulgaria had previously activated Romania's MPPs and Romania quickly captured all of the tiles on the battlefield. The Bulgarian government figured that this was just a drain attack and ordered to stop fighting in that battles. Soon the true reason behind the Romanian attack became clear - a resistance war was started in the Federation of BiH. The first attack against the capital city was repelled, but the enemy forces were very close to capturing the capital and the hospital.

During the night (around 12.00-22.00 eRepublik Time) there wasn't much fighting so the president sent the army to recapture the battlefield of the Ruse battle. Near the end of the Federation of BiH battle, there was another attack and because the Bulgarian army had wasted a lot of energy fighting in Ruse couldn't withstand the attack and lost the battle. During the fights for Federation of BiH and Ruse, another two resistance wars were started - in the East Srpska Republic and Brcko District against Bulgaria and Serbia respectively. Serbia defended the region, but the Bulgarian one fell.

The Battle for Varna

On the next day, Romania attacked Varna thinking that the Bulgarian army was exhausted from the fighting on the previous day. Bulgaria, however, managed to secure the region and Romania didn't attack again.

Aftermath

The loss of the Federation of BiH was a huge blow to Bulgaria and is considered the Third National Catastrophe (the first two being the two times Romania conquered Bulgaria). Bulgaria had paid a lot of gold in order to get the region and even though it boosted its economy greatly it wasn't enough to repay itself for the short time it was in Bulgaria's hands. After losing the high region the President had his resignation and even though he wasn't impeached his absent from his post until the end of his term.

Bulgaria, now without a high region would late rent two high regions from Iran and would become a key player in Asia.

The biggest consequence of the loss was the fact that Bulgaria felt betrayed by its allies. While Serbia and Hungary had helped Bulgaria significantly, the rest of Phoenix had sent only a few fighters. Turkey had sent only 10 players with many of them fighting for the Bosnian side. This would create a rift between Bulgaria and Phoenix which combined with the Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) conflict would eventually lead to Bulgaria leaving Phoenix and joining EDEN.
