The Conflict
Rental
After Bulgaria and Iran finished the agreement talks about the rental, the only thing which was left was for Bulgaria to get to the regions. In order to reach Iran, Bulgaria had to pass through Turkey. As both countries had similar MPPs a direct attack was impossible. Iran didn't have any MPPs so that's why it was used as a land-bridge. Iran attacked Turkey and the Turkish president retreated the battles. When Iran reached Bulgaria, Bulgaria attacked it and the Iranian president retreated front the battles. Bulgaria rented Semnan and South Khorasan. In the following days all of the other regions used for the land-bridge were returned to their original owners. According to the agreement Bulgaria rented the regions for 6 months and had to pay 250 for the first month and 480 Gold a month for the remaining time. The swap was done just in time as a few day later the admins removed the option to retreat a battle.
Lazokrat Controversy
As Bulgaria began to distance itself from Phoenix (see Bulgaria-Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) Diplomatic Conflict) the rented regions became a hot-spot. Many resistance wars were started by Macedonian and Lazokrat players who tried to make Bulgaria lose its colonies. While Phoenix distanced itself from those wars some key Serbian and Turkish players fought against Bulgaria. Even though Bulgaria was still inn Phoenix, it was only a nominal member and was at a crossroad. Both Phoenix and EDEN wanted Bulgaria in their alliance so both alliances sent fighter to tank for Bulgaria in an attempt to win it for their side. Bulgaria saw the Lazokrat attacks as a stab in the back and this was one of the reasons it left Phoenix.
The Second Rental
As of 30 November, 2010 Bulgaria was no longer a part of Phoenix. Event though there was unofficial pressure on Iran to cancel the rental agreement, Iran decided to continue to rent its regions to Bulgaria. As the admins introduced the new resource system, Bulgaria found itself with two Saltpeter regions. An agreement was made between the two countries to return Semnan and South Khorasan to Iran, and to rent Yazd (a fruit region) and Southwestern Iran (an oil region). Bulgaria attacked Iran and both countries coordinated the attack together. During that time, Bulgaria had elected a pro-EDEN president and Iran was afraid that Bulgaria would betray it and instead conquer all of its regions. These suspicions were fueled by the fact that Bulgaria signed MPPs with EDEN countries. Bulgaria however did not betray its ally and both countries signed peace after Bulgaria acquired the needed regions.
Damage Drain Battles
In January 2011 Bulgaria attacked Turkey, and soon after that was attacked by Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). While Bulgaria was fighting in the Balkans, many resistances were started, along the course of the war, in the two rented regions in order drain damage from the main battles. While Bulgaria managed to secure most of the battles it eventually lost Southwestern Iran and was left with Yazd.
