The Dharma Initiative was a political party in the United Kingdom which was founded on 16 July 2011. It was one of the fastest growing party in the country. The party was founded by Stefan1992 after the Unity Party split due to a conflict of interest. The Dharma Initiative prides itself in the creation of a democratic system in which all members can share their voice, no matter who they are or how active they are. It was the 6th largest party in the eUK.

Policies

The Dharma Initiative is currently in the process of holding several referendums on current events. Over the next few weeks, the party will have official stances on several issues. Polls in the past have included elections such as who to back for Prime Minister, and also including foreign affairs, such as the UK's alliances and Ireland. According to the party page, the party "strives for justice, equality, social harmony and the rights of all people."

History

July 2011

On 16th July, the Dharma Initiative was founded. Originally ranked the 11th largest party, it has already jumped to become the 8th largest. Its democratic system was implemented on the same day it was founded. The next day, the Orientation project started, which consists of many guides and tutorials on eRepublik. Other plans are currently in the works which will help improve democratic matters and the wellbeing of the citizens of the country.

August 2011

The Orientation project was completed, making the Dharma Initiative the first political party to provide a set of guides (note that the guides are neutral, and not partisan). A month after the party was created, membership had doubled. Stefan1992 ran for re-election, stating that while the party has gone far over the last month, there is still a long way to go. However, a few hours before elections began, temujin94 of The Unity Party joined the party and ran for PP in a PTO attempt. Despite TUP's attempt at a PTO, the members of DI managed to hold back the attack.

September 2011

Due to real life issues, Stefan1992 became less active, resulting in a stagnant period for the party.

October 2011

Again, real life became a major time constrait, with Stefan's focus on univeristy and protesting. He took some time off, and the Party Presidency went to Willez97. An unknown event prevented the new party president from taking action, causing a decline in party membership.

November 2011

After several months of inactivity, Stefan1992 returned to the Party Presidency (despite another failed PTO), promising a new era for the party. A more concentrated focus on the problems of inequality in both real life and in the eUK provided a newer platform for the party to take action on, including the reintroduction of the democratic voting system.

December 2011

The party doubled in size during Stefan's return to the Party Presidency. He was reelected for a second consecutive term, promising more activity with less real life commitments. The Dharma Cafeteria opened this month, providing the poorest and newest citizens access to much needed food. This came at a much needed time, as the eUK was in the middle of three wars. There was a temporary setback when the Unity Party attacked this programme, but despite the malicious attack, the Dharma Cafeteria has proven to be successful, serving dozens of people. The year ended with membership at 21, the highest in its history.

January 2012

Membership continued to rise, solidifying DI's position as the 6th largest political party in the eUK. The next phase of the party is to get a section on the eUK Forums, which is currently under progress. Unfortunately, The Unity Party attacked yet again, by forcing the cancellation of the forum application, creating a setback for DI and the eUK. Yacub Maroni took control of the party presidency, with Stefan taking the deputy position.

February 2012

DI had its party membership stabilise after the eUK saw a reduction of population overall. Adamkearly was voted as Party President, taking the party in a new direction. However this new PP did not do as well as originally hoped, and membership began to fall. The party stagnated as a result of a lack of action within the party.

March 2012

Seeing that the party was degrading, Stefan1992 returned to run for Party President. A close vote with the incumbent Adamkearly saw Stefan just get through to become the Party President for a third session. Immediately, the programmes were re-launched in hopes to restore the party once more.

April 2012

The Dharma Cafeteria reached a milestone, helping serve over 100 citizens of the eUK. In the Party President Elections, Stefan ran for re-election uncontested. Membership continued to rise reaching a new all time high.

May 2012

Membership continued to skyrocket, surpassing the 50 member mark. The DI's Military Unit, Dharma Army, was launched in the first week of May, shooting from the 25th ranked MU to 15th in just days. DI took part in a multi-party coalition during the PM election to ensure the defeat of TUP. A week into May, membership stood at 54.

June 2012

A bug that inaccurately showed membership numbers of all parties was finally erased, showing that all parties had less members than initially stated. Despite this, DI was quick to rebound, picking up new members at a rate quicker than any other party. Dharma Army also increased in membership, as a new supply scheme was implemented. It is currently ranked between 10th-15th. DI's endorsement for PM also proved vital, swinging the outcome of the vote. In mid-June, DI created a private section on the eUK Forums. Creator Kevin Smies became the new PP, with plans on continued expansion.

Programmes

The Dharma Initiative is in the process of creating several programmes in order to create a stronger society.

Voting System

Members of the Dharma Initiative can get involved in decision making, regardless of how active they are. From time to time, polls are held in which all members are given the opportunity to express their opinions on a variety of topics. DI was the only political party to do this at the time, as they believde providing democracy for all is essential for creating a strong society.

Orientation

Orienation is a nonpartisan set of guides created by DI in order to promote education to new players. There are currently 10 topics to choose from. A channel on IRC was set up which was called #Orientation if someone seeked advice directly from someone.

Dharma Cafeteria

Dharma Cafeteria is a project which provides food to new players and those in need. The scheme provides 200 health worth of food (a £75 value) to those between level 1 - 20. The programme began in late December 2011.

Dharma Army

Dharma Army is the party's official Military Unit, although this is open to both members and non-members of the party. The MU helps solidify DI's belief of maintaining the integrity of the country by fighting against its enemies. Members of DI receive 4 Q6 weapons daily, and non-members receive 1 Q6.

Politics

Being a minor party that actually takes actions, DI has come under heavy attacks from more powerful and elitist parties. Despite constant acts of aggression from the Unity Party, DI still continues to provide services an ideas to make the eUK a better place. DI has attempted to restore the order in the eUK after TUP wrecked the country after months of failed policy and leadership.
