Edinghayi, formerly known as Turkish Red Crescent aka Türk Kızılayı, was a foundation that supported the Turkish Army in wars. It provided its expenditures by the donations of Turkish citizens.
Mission
Providing relief to the vulnerable and those in need by mobilising the power and resources of the community to protect human dignity anytime, anywhere, under any conditions and support the enhancement of the community’s capacity to cope with disasters.
Vision
To be a humanitarian aid organisation that embraces and is embraced by the entire society, constantly enhancing its reputation and quality of service at national and international levels.
Fundamental Principles
Humanity Edinghayi, born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavours, in its international and national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose was to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promoted mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation, and lasting peace among all peoples.
Impartiality Edinghayi made no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class, or political opinions. It endeavours to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give priority to the most urgent cases of distress.
Neutrality In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, Edinghayi would not take sides in hostilities or engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious, or ideological nature.
Independence Edinghayi was independent. While an auxiliary in the humanitarian services of The Republic of Turkey and subject to the laws of Turkey, it always maintained its autonomy so that it could be able to act in accordance with the fundamental principles of the International Red Crescent-Red Cross.
Voluntary Service Edinghayi was a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain.
Unity There was only one Turkish Red Crescent Society in Turkey and no other organizations can be established in Turkey with the same purpose and name. It was open to all. It carries on its humanitarian work throughout its territory.
Universality Edinghayi was a worldwide organization and had equal status with all foreign National Societies and shared equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other with them.
