EPIC or Egalitarian Party of Independent Canadians, is a Canadian political party. It aims to represent the views of centrist and bipartisan citizens of Canada. Despite a history of Centre-Left, Libertarian policies, EPIC identifies itself as "politically neutral", and has no set party orientation.

Formation

EPIC is the result of the merger between two political parties with similar ideologies, the Canadian Social Democrats and the Canadian National Coalition. Negotiations for the merger began under the leadership of Nosyt of the CSD and Greg McNeish of the CNC. In April, under CSD leader Chamrajnagar and CNC leader Ozymandias Malifozik, details were finalized and the two parties officially merged.

Party Ideologies

In EPIC, it doesn't matter where you stand on the political spectrum or what your viewpoints are. What matters to EPIC is that you want to see eCanada at its best. EPIC, as a party, has only two main ideologies, which are its founding principles. These ideologies are that of Egalitarianism and Independent. EPIC is also the only fully transparent party in Canada.

Egalitarianism

As Egalitarians, EPIC believes that we are all equal. Every citizen deserves to be treated equal. Every member of our party is the same; whether they have more experience or less experience, more money or less, more popularity and reputation or none at all. Every citizen deserves to have their voices heard, and every citizen deserves the opportunity to take part in their party. Within EPIC, we make sure that all our party members have these rights.

Independent

As Independents, EPIC believes that everyone is entitled their own opinions. EPIC doesn't require our members to have certain ideologies, but allows everyone to form their own thoughts, viewpoints, and ideologies. As well as express it as they please. Having different viewpoints helps to spur dicussion and debate, so it is a value that is encouraged within EPIC. As free-thinkers, EPIC believes the opportunity to develop your thoughts independentally in invaluable.

Transparency

EPIC also has a policy on being open and transparent. EPIC believes that everyone should be allowed to know what's going on, we therefore have a 100% transparency policy. This means that we have no secret forums or hidden conversation. We let all of our members see everything that's going on in the party, and we encourage our members to contribute to everything that's going on. This allows for a truly Egalitarian and Independent environment, where everyone is treated equally, so that they can see and make decide for themselves.

History

Merger

EPIC is the result of the merger of the Canadian Social Democrats (CSD) and the Canadian National Coalition (CNC). The merger was completed on April 22, 2010.

There were a number of agreements made between the two merging parties as to how EPIC would go forward:

  • The two Party presidents of the merging parties would become co-Party presidents for the remainder of the term with their respective Vice Presidents stepping down from their position.
  • A new organisation was to be founded for the party after a name was finalised with the organisations of the preceding parties being used as storage and purchasing organisations.
  • The newspaper from the ex-CSD party newspaper would be transferred to the new party organisation with the ex-CNC newspaper being preserved for historical purposes.
  • All assets from the preceding parties will be pooled and treated as part of the new party.

Country Presidents

  • May 2010: The first of many external nominations, EPIC supported nea milosu of the DAL who then became President of Canada.
  • June 2010: EPIC neither supported a candidate from within the party, nor an external candidate; Dade Pendwyn became the Canadian President following these elections.
  • July 2010: EPIC supported incumbent Dade Pendwyn. He comfortably won the election to secure his second term.
  • August 2010: EPIC supported many-term President Jacobi, who went on to lose this election to Dade's successor, Acacia Mason.

  • October 2010: EPIC supported its own Luke Peters, who lost to Alias Vision.

  • May 2011: EPIC failed to nominate a candidate.
  • June 2011: EPIC's endorsement narrowly went to Aeriala over incumbent Kazuo Leblanc. Rolo Tahmasee won the election; Aeriala placed third.
