Maori Party (September 2014- ) is a centrist political party currently active New Zealand. The party was founded as the successor to the old Angry Angels led party Ranginui. This was done after a period of inactivity among its membership and a desire to broaden the appeal beyond what the old party could.

Initially the party was a major success and grew to become a top-five party. However, the party has recently entered a phase of decline. Many active members from the Slovenian community have left the party and only a small collection of figures remain. The party has been effectively run by KrMa since he became PP in November 2014.

History-Return to Activity

The Maori Party (MP) was founded in late 2014 when the politics of NZ had begun to stagnant after a large portion of the nations formally active citizens had chosen to leave the game or seek out a new life in different parts of the New World. One party that was particularly affected by this was Ranginui, the former political home of the Angry Angels. It had stagnated and a change was needed.

It in this setting that Moon King, a former UK citizen came to NZ and sought the leadership of the now morbid Ranginui. After taking it over unopposed he sought to broaden its appeal. Early on it supported Titan DC of the UIS in the October Presidential elections but he was defeated. Subsequently the party was unable to break into the top-five and was unable to field candidates in the Congressional elections, a similar fate to its predecessor. This lack of success and growth caused Moon to become disillusioned and he choose to leave NZ before the end of his term.

Transition

Following the resignation of Moon King as party leader, Schmid FZR became PP. Only days later in the PP race he was challenged by UIS cross-over Skamandar. In the race, due to the poor turnout both members secured 1 vote each and it was only based on his higher level that SChmid was returned as PP and the UIS failed in its takeover. His tenure proved again to be uneventful for the party. It was unable to crack the top-five and failed to field any Congressional candidates and then also did not support anyone in the Presidential contest.

KrMa & Veteran Returns

It was in this weakened state that veteran Slovenian Kiwi KrMa, former Ranginui PP, joined the party and was elected PP in November 2014. Quickly he started to build up its profile through a recruitment of not only the strongest military Kiwis but also veterans who had recently begun to return to NZ. Much of its operation, organization and activity was model off of his previous party, Ranginui.

After being re-elected in December, KrMa then used the January elections to build up a profile. He stood for President and came fifth with 7.94% of the vote. However, the profile was raised when NZ was wiped off the map following these elections. KrMa used this to rally veteran Kiwis to return to NZ. These recruits included the likes of Crusadercarl (PnPP), Xanthar Zaiben BPNZ and Skyline. These figures had long ties to NZ and were well respected in the community. CC challenged in the PP race but was defeated 5-0 and thereby ensuring KrMa leadership. After this it was agreed on a leadership team which subsequently has led the party since.

In the February elections, the party opted against running a CP candidate, preferring to remain neutral after the most recent wipe. In the later Congressional elections, the party not only entered the top-five but managed to elect two members (KrMa & Hikaroro). The party continued to cooperate with the gov't but adopted a more neutral stance and preferred to keep its distance from the regime. In March, KrMa stood for President and came second, winning 15% of the vote but losing to Cobi63 of the UIS. In the reduced Congressional races, the party retained one seat with that going to KrMa.

By April, the long-standing rule of the UIS, coupled with the establishment of the 1st New Zealand Dictatorship had begun to chafe many members and led others to feel that stagnation had set in and NZ was losing members. The party agreed to cooperate with the PnPP to challenge this. Under the agreement KrMa stood as the PnPP CP candidate and the party supported him. In the election he came second again with 19% of the vote to former party member Skamandar. In April elections the alliance had a breakthrough and elected 9 members (3 for Maori).

CC Presidency

In the lead up to the May elections, UIS recognized the need to step back and help NZ revive. It was agreed that CC would run for CP with the unofficially backing of the PnPP and UIS. He was elected with over 70% of the vote and formed a government with all three parties and the additional support of the Black Party of New Zealand. This administration worked hard to recapture the lost lands and restore NZ to some of its best fortunes. The alliance with the PnPP produced a breakthrough in the May Congressional elections when they secured 8 seats. With the addition of the 16 for UIS, the parties were able to help CC implement his agenda of challenging the Dictatorship.

As his term drew to a close the inability to challenge the Dictator, coupled with the sudden emergence of Chile and Peru in their territory it weakened the NZ ability to coordinate and unfortunately the region fell to Chile and Peru wiping NZ off the map. This undermined the leadership of CC and Maori Party who many saw as being at fault. This hindered the party and left it disgraced in the eyes of many. The PnPP also ended the alliance with it thereby reducing its influence even further.

Current Status

In the May CP elections, CC opted not to run again and instead KrMa nominated himself. In the subseqent vote, he came third with 24%, losing to Bojam933 of the UIS and to the Socialist Party of New Zealand candidates. In the later Congressional elections, due to a limited amount of seats, the party captured just one and thereby suffered major setbacks. After these results, a large portion of the formerly active membership left the party due to its inability to challenge the dictatorship and the general inability to revive the community spirit in NZ.
