A retreat attack is one of the tactics used in eRepublik wars. It is when one of the conflicting side's president retreats from a region then attacks it again. Retreat-attacking is impossible if a nation does not have the initiative in a conflict.

Procedure

In order to use the retreat attack strategy, presidents will carry out the following steps:

  1. First, the president retreats from one of the regions his country is currently fighting in.
  2. Next, the president will attack that region again.

Uses

It has sometimes been questioned if Retreat-Attacking is actually a useful tactic, due to the loss of gold and a potentially useful region in the act. However, there has been 2 distinctive uses for such a maneuver:

Damage-Wiping

Damage-Wiping is the act of resetting a wall. This is usually only done by an attacker, due to the fact that if done by a defender, the defender would lose the region. This is the most questioned of methods due to the fact that all battles take 24 hours to finish, and the enemy country would be able to all log on and redo any damage they did to the wall. However, it may represent a loss of gold for the victim nation if they tanked the region, due to the fact that they would lose all the damage caused by their tanking.

Gaining initiative

Gaining the initiative is likely the most popular reason for employing this tactic. The initiative can be gained if a region is retreated, then re-attacked by the defending country.
