A tank is anyone that uses Gold to buy wellness boxes (later health kits) in order to fight an extraordinary number of times. Generally, they are part of a country's military and are funded by either their nation or by an ally.
Tanking began during Version 1 on a small scale, right from the introduction of wellness boxes. In the beginning, it was considered too expensive to be used as a major force due to the high price for a small wellness value, but quickly evolved into becoming a deciding factor in almost every major battle.
Version 1, early stage
Tanks generally hold the rank of V1 General or V1 Field Marshal and are more than 15 strength. (Note: This was significantly increased with the introduction of Lana)
While a cap of max 40 wellness boxes per day has been introduced, there was originally no limit to how many boxes you could buy. This meant that there was literally no limit to how much damage one person could do, if they had the money to do it.
Version 1, late stage
In the late stages of V1, the existing Wellness Boxes were replaced by Health kits, the price has been changed from 2 GOLD to 0.5 GOLD, and the effects of use now one give 20 health, plus the daily limit has been increased from 40 to 99.
Rising and new game versions
With the implementation of Rising, the new military module system was implemented, the health kit was changed and it gave a reduced health value (only 10 health points), although there was no limit on how many kits can be bought, however, there was a new limit of how much eRepublik gold ( 10 GOLD) you can spend to buy them, which make financing of tanks quite tricky.
This meant that people who can buy packages with real money were only able to buy many health packages, and hence slowly the term tank was terminated.
