The Second Poland-Germany War was a conflict between the countries of Poland and Germany that began on March 21, 2011.

The war was the first conflict between ONE and Terra member-states, and is most notable for being the primary cause of hostilities between both alliances. It would also serve as the first, and primary cause, of a series of cascading wars throughout Europe, North America, and South America.

Aside from ongoing conflicts in Eastern Europe which may have predated and included portions of the Fourth Balkan War, the Second Poland-Germany War was essentially the the first open conflict of World War V.

As a result of the war Germany would initially be reduced to Saarland, briefly reemerge at various points, but eventually be fully conquered on May 18, 2011 by ONE forces.

Background

Prior to the official outbreak of war, Poland had been occupying (through agreement) a number of Germany's original regions, such as Brandenburg and Berlin, Thuringia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Wurttemberg, as well as the Netherlands territories of Western Netherlands and Eastern Netherlands. Though these arrangements were accepted by both parties at the time, eventually they would become a main cause for the outbreak of hostilities between both nations.

Aside from its colonies in Europe, Poland had also been in possession of a number of colonies extending as far out as rented territories in the USA. However, in the weeks leading up to the war, the game mechanics would eventually change, making the foreign - and geographically unconnected - Polish owned colonies, essentially worthless. To this end, Poland began to enter negotiations with Germany in an attempt to geographically connect its European colonies, and as a result gain the desired resource bonuses that came with them.

The Polish territories in North America were so distant that any chance of securing a connection to them was largely deemed impractical, and as a result Poland simply allowed the USA territories to peacefully revert back to the USA during the Tri-alliance Cold War period, just prior to World War V. However, during this time Poland would use its US colonies to launch an attack (and eventually wipe) the country of Mexico, before giving the US territories back to the United States.

Germany and Western Europe on 17 March 2011, just prior to the outbreak of World War V.

Unlike the North American colonies, those Poland held in Western Europe were still believed to be within an obtainable distance. As a result, discussion with Germany commenced in good-faith between both countries, and for a period of time there seemed to be a possible agreement being reached between both nations.

In exchange for the rental agreement, Germany requested a Polish-backed Mutual Protection Pact between itself and Serbia. Both Poland and Serbia had strong diplomatic ties and were charter signers of the alliance which would eventually become known as ONE. Germany was hopeful that Poland might be able to convince Serbia to agree to peaceful terms, believing that with a MPP in place, German interests would not be threatened by nearby Serbian colonies. However, Serbia declined the offer for reasons of national interest, particularly because portions of Europe (including the UK) were under Serbian control and the country may have had its own designs on continuing expansion in Western Europe and possibly North America. This would eventually cause discussion of a peaceful land rental agreement between Poland and Germany to come to a stand-still.

Meanwhile Germany, sensing a potential outbreak of hostilities with Poland, began to solidify its relationships with other Western European powers, most notably the UK and France, the later of which Germany was participating in a training war with. During this time the three countries became signers of the Strasbourg Treaty in an attempt to solidify their relationships and set up a bull-work against potential hostilities with the budding ONE alliance powers of Poland, Serbia, and Spain.

France and the UK were allied member-states of the Terra alliance, and as a result of the Strasbourg Treaty, Germany began to slowly enter the early phases of negotiations with the goal of possibly become a full Terra member as well.

This would precipitate an escalation of belligerence between Poland and Germany. Poland still desired to maintain its European colonies and ultimately wished to link them in such a way as to gain the resources bonuses they could provide. Germany entering not only the Strasbourg Treaty, but also a growing Terra alliance, essentially suggested that Poland's rental ambitions would be be further stalled. With Serbia unwilling to cooperate by signing an MPP with Germany, Poland found itself with no diplomatic solution to its dilemma.

As a result, Poland began pursuing a military solution and on March 19, 2011 their congress put forth and accepted a natural enemy proposal against Germany.

The following day, Germany countered the Polish move by proposing its own natural enemy decree against Poland. It also formally requested membership within the Terra alliance. This request was promptly accepted and formalized by the 21st of March.

On the same day (March 21, 2011), Poland launched an attack upon the German region of Hesse and the Second Poland-Germany War began.

As a result of the Polish aggression, Terra alliance members were rapidly pulled into the conflict with ONE forces. France would promptly defend its neighboring ally by attacking Poland, which in turn would pull Spain into the conflict, beginning with the Third Spain-France War.

After this, hostilities between ONE and Terra member-states grew exponentially. Together with aggressive actions by ONE allies Serbia, Hungary, and the Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) against EDEN member-states Croatia, Romania, Italy, and Bulgaria in Eastern Europe, this would exacerbate the political climate. The end result of which, was World War V.

Further Fighting

After Germany was reduced to the single territory of Saarland, Poland would redirect its forces against France during the Third Spain-France War. Germany would be effectively out of the war during this time, though would continue with a series of Resistance Wars.

Some days later, Belgium would align itself with ONE forces after an attack by the UK. The initial UK entry into the Western Front was unsuccessful, but would have the effect of strengthening Belgium's relationship with ONE. Thereafter Belgium would launch a war against Germany's remaining territory, attempting to keep the battered nation from reemerging as ONE first conquered France and then launched an attack upon the Americas.

Failed Liberation of Germany and Second phase

Though Germany would be largely conquered during the war and brought to the brink on annihilation by further Belgian attacks, it would eventually begin a series of attacks in an attempt to reestablish itself as a player in World War V.

After Poland was defeated by Brazil during the Poland-Brazil War, it focused again on regaining the German territories that had been lost in another attempt to link Polish-held regions in occupied-France to the Polish capital.

Fall of Germany

Germany would struggle to maintain its borders in the following weeks, expanding and contracting at various times by liberating and then losing a number of its regions. Though the borders of the nation would change several times throughout the conflict, the war itself would eventually become marginalized as ONE forces continued wars in other theaters of World War V and Germany's ability to put forth a substantial resistance diminished.

Conflicts such as the ONE invasion of Bulgaria, Serbia-Russia War, Second Baltic War, Bulgarian Independence War, USA-Spain War, Brazil-Spain War, Poland-Brazil War, the eventual EDEN invasion of Serbia, and Ukraine-Turkey War, would keep ONE forces preoccupied with engagements that posed a far larger threat to ONE interests. However, eventually the attacks by the Terra/EDEN joint alliance would focus on other regions of the globe. Considering the geographical position of Germany and the inability of France and nearby EDEN countries to provide sustained assistance after the ONE invasion of France, along with the UK withdrawing from Terra and initiating the Third Anglo-Irish War, eventually made Germany's position untenable.

As Poland itself faced few attacks upon its own territories, an opportunity to conquer Germany in its entirety finally presented itself as ONE successfully stalled Terra/EDEN advances during the Second Baltic War and EDEN invasion of Serbia.

During this time Poland launched a final attack upon German regions in combination with Sweden, conquering the regions of Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg simultaneously.

Germany would fall to ONE forces on May 18, 2011.
