Military

Sir David Newton first became involved in the Australian Military as a member of the Australian Citizen Army Reserves, and then in the Australian Army Reserves when the members voted for a renaming of the group.

Sir David Newton was also a Commanding Officer in the Australian Army Reserves, in charge of Echo Squad, in Platoon Two.

He was offered the chance to be a Platoon Leader of the AAR Platoon 2, however, he declined this position, as he was in the process of moving into a squad of the Australian Commando Unit Koalas. This became official as of the twenty-second of December, 2009, when he officially became a member of the Australian Commando Unit Koalas.
