The Socialist Freedom Party(often abbreviated as SFP) is the 7th largest political party in the United States of America. It is one of the longest lived parties in the USA, and is the longest live non-top five party in the USA. It has never broke the top five in it's existence as a political party.

Progressive America Federation (January 2009 - March 2009)

Disillusioned by the United States Workers Party and the Federalist Party, smily132 and some similarly-minded comrades pooled funds to establish the Progressive America Federation. The PAF struggled to recruit new members and suffered from a general lack of enthusiasm from its base until Robert Bayer joined and breathed new life into the party.

United Imperialist Party/CPUSA (March 2009) & The Creation of the Socialist Freedom Party

In March of 2009, after a series of changes for the Progressive America Federation, it was decided the party would become the first openly communist party in the eUnited States. The party changed its name to the United Imperialist Party and later the Communist Party USA. In the end, it was decided that the Socialist Freedom Party was the most appropriate name for the reinvigorated party.

In March, April and May of 2009, the SFP saw a growth in membership under the leadership of party presidents smily132 and Spade. The SFP had their first member of Congress (Bayer, ND). In May, the SFP ran its own candidate for President of the United States of America. Spade garnered a little over 3% of the vote. After the May presidential elections, smily132 and Spade left the eUnited States on a missionary trip to spread the word of Vizierism in South Korea.

Taking up the torch of former SFP leaders, Osmany Ramon ran unopposed in the May 2009 Party President election. He promised to move the SFP from its "juvenile phase" as a single-issue party to a major player in the American political landscape with a platform that addresses the full gamut of issues important to workers in the New World.

Major Party Presidencies

Ramon Presidency

The party continued to grow steadily in Ramon's first term in numbers and active members. He created the Socialist Freedom Press and Socialist Freedom Org. Other important party features Ramon established included a steering committee (leading to a revised platform and new constitution) and the first commune in the eUSA called the SFP Commune. The party was unsuccessful at winning a Congressional seat in May 2009 but improved their Presidential election performance with Robert Bayer as the SFP candidate. Many of the projects that the party undertook at this time helped give the SFP greater visibility and legitimacy as a political party.

Ramon won re-election and oversaw Bayer winning a Congressional seat and the party finally breaking into the top ten list after nearly doubling in size over the previous two months. The invasion of the USA by PEACE forces put a strain on party growth and activity since partisan politics were set aside for the sake of national unity in the face of possible destruction. Despite this, the SFP maintained its membership numbers fairly well during the loss of regions compared to most other parties in the eUSA. The July Congressional elections marked the first time that the SFP held two Congressional seats, Bayer and Mark Valshannar.

Following the presidential elections, where the SFP officially endorsed Emerick, Ramon announced that he was not going to run for a fourth term as party president so that he could focus on other aspects of the party and study the New World economy more closely. Valshannar won the presidency in a landslide in August 2009.

Valshannar Presidency

On August 18, 2009, President Valshannar commissioned the SFP Bear Cavalry to become a united radical resistance force to take back eUS regions that were conquered by PEACE GC forces in World War 3. Party membership fell drastically during the war due partly to inactive members being lost behind enemy lines and the mobilization of a large portion of the party to Russia to fight in the resistance wars as part of the Bear Cavalry. In subsequent presidencies he did better due to his experience, but his presidencies are often characterized by large bursts of activity in the beginning, but a large bust in the end which makes running the party for difficult for people who come after him.

In his later presidencies he continued Phoenix Quinn's work on the Revolutionary Committee. Mark added "Party Proposals" to the constitution which allowed regular members to propose for action to be taken by the SFP should the Revolutionary Committee not be taking satisfactory action. This added more direct democracy into the SFP.

Quinn Presidency

Phoenix Quinn did away with the old Steering Committee structure of party governance. He struggled with an inherited situation of low activity and while he was never able to beat it in his first term, he laid the ground work to allow new members to more easily come into the party and reinvigorate it.

His new Revolutionary Committee structure was less rigid and allowed for nearly half of the leadership to be volunteers. It also established a clear line of succession should the Party President be unable to fulfill his/her duties. The decreased rigidity in duties made it easier for collaboration to occur in the leadership and for more input into party decisions by more people.

His second term led to the adoption of another constitution which was again unanimously approved. It formalized many practices that started under presidents that followed his previous term.

Attempted Name Change

On the October 26th, Lysander Spooner proposed the Socialist Freedom Party change it's name to "United States Anarcho-syndicalist Party". The measure was supported by Party President Uhriventis. Mark Valshannar and the recently returned Vincent Nolan argued against the change. The proposal passed the Revolutionary Committee by a margin of 4 to 2 with party elder Phoenix Quinn taking a middle ground approach, he proposed the action was too drastic to not be voted on by the membership.

When the general membership voted, the proposal was crushed. Only the four revolutionary committee members who pushed the measure voted in favor of the change. 12 party members voted against the change with Phoenix Quinn continuing his abstention.

On 11/11/11 the party moved from socialistfreedom.org to sfp-erep.org. This marked the fourth forum change for the party.

Party Culture

The SFP is unique for its openness to new faces and willingness to share the role of leadership with all its members. The SFP tends to attract people open to Communism, Anarchism, and Socialism in real life. Over time this trend has been diminished and many people who consider themselves Mutualists, Conservative or Liberal in real life and/or in game have joined the SFP. Lysander Spooner II is one prominent example of how non-Communists have been active in contributing to the party recently. Robert Bayer helped establish the SFP Commune and encouraged entry into the Communist International despite being a Progressive in real life, illustrating how the SFP was founded by people of all types of ideologies, but were united by a belief in genuine freedom.

The SFP also encourages a feeling of internationalism and friendship among people of different nationalities. The party has often been one of the most active in the various Communist Internationals that have sprung up over the years.

Constitution of the SFP

The current constitution of the SFP was adopted on October 13th, 2011 (Day 1,423 of the New World). The first Quinn Constitution of the SFP was adopted on August 28th, 2010 (Day 1,012 of the New World). The previous constitution of the SFP, which signaled it's transformation into what it is today, was adopted on Adopted on August 18th, 2009 (Day 637 of the New World).

Party President Elections

The Socialist Freedom Party usually operates on a form of "consensus democracy", where the next Party President is usually apparent as he or she has made clear their ambitions in advance and generally is seen as the most hard working member during the term of the previous PP. There are, however, some exceptions where the party president position was highly contested.

December 2009

In this PP election three former party presidents, Osmany Ramon, Mark Valshannar, and Civil Anarchy, all ran at the same time for some fun and make the usually decided in advance PP election a little more entertaining. This was effectively a referendum on the most popular party president. Osmany Ramon won with 54% of the vote.

June 2011

Originally this was going to be a contest between Jude Connors and Alex McKeon. However an attempted PTO led Alex to endorse Jude. The SFP successfully fought off the PTO. This election is also remarkable because it marks the only time that anyone attempted to PTO the SFP.

August 2011

This was between Lysander Spooner II, Civil Anarchy, and Flying Trotsky. For the first time since December 2009, there were three candidates for the SFP PP who were active in the party. Lysander Spooner II barely came out ahead of Civil Anarchy by 4 votes, prompting Civil Anarchy to leave for the Federalist Party.

October 2011

Again the SFP had three active players vying for the Party Presidency. Uhriventis, Linus Ben and The Norm. All three were active members of the Bear Cavalry and on the forum. There was no debate on IRC, though Mark asked several questions on the candidate's views on the forum. In the end, Uhriventis won with 3 votes more then Linus Ben.

Presidential Campaigns

Despite it's status as a 6th party, the SFP often proposes it's own candidate for president. It is unique among the 6th parties in that candidates actively seek the SFP endorsement, though not to the extent that they seek top 5 party endorsements.

It's first candidate was Spade in May 2009, earning 3.02% of the vote.

Robert Bayer ran June 2009, earning 4.02% of the vote. Bayer was endorsed by the United States Green Party

CivilAnarchy ran, participating in the debates and earning 15.84% of the vote (436 total), the highest ever for a SFP member. He ran again in May 2010 getting 10.83% of the vote. He also ran in May 2011 and won 10.04% of the vote.

Phoenix Quinn ran September 2010 and got 5.3% of the vote. Kyle Galli ran in October 2010 and got 3.9%. Both ran because the SFP did not wish to endorse any of the serious candidates and put their own forth as a "protest vote." Jude Connors ran another protest vote candidacy in August 2011 and received 4.5%.

Lysander Spooner II was drafted by SFP members to run in September 2011, receiving 4.18% of the vote. He ran again in October and received 4.62% of the vote, a slight increase.

Emerick is the most endorsed non-SFP member that the SFP supports for President.

Glove has also been endorsed several times and at one point join the SFP half way through his presidency.

During the Spade and smily132 eras the SFP logo was the American flag with a hammer and sickle in place of the 50 stars. When Osmany Ramon took power he replaced it with the grain and gear logo. While the logo has changed, the basic design has remained the same.
