Sperry returned to activity on April 14, 2011. He placed his candidacy for the Party Presidency, entering a race with then-Congressman Frank139. This election marked the first tied race in EPIC's history, and resulted in Frank139's appointment as Party President based on Experience Levels. Like the close election of June 2010, Frank appointed Sperry as his Vice President for the month. The two collaborated on EPIC's efforts in the Congress and Presidential elections.

Sperry's term as President centered mainly around the total invasion of Canada by the ONE alliance. Poland, Indonesia, and Britain occupied all of Canada within 25 minutes of Sperry's election - the result of many days of military defeats preceding Sperry's term. In Sperry's final week, Canada managed to regain all 13 of its original regions with little resistance from her occupiers. The nation was wholly restored several days before the end of his term. This enabled Canada's soldiers to continue a term-long focus on fighting in Terra & Eden battles, largely in an effort to rebuild Canada's relations with her two main alliances.

Apart from the occupation and expulsion of ONE, Sperry's term also focused on fiscal scrutiny and foreign affairs revitalization. A self-advocated 'Communicator CP', Sperry also reinstated the use of daily government articles and up-to-date battle orders to focus the population's efforts and keep them informed. His efforts earned him the reputation of being "the best communicator [Canada has] had in the big chair."

Despite many praises and criticisms, Sperry did not seek reelection, and instead deliberately encouraged candidates Treian and Wally Cleaver to seek the Presidential office. He finished his term and was succeeded by Wally Cleaver, who named him a Companion of the Order of Canada and an Officer of the Order of Military Merit. After Wally Cleaver's Impeachment, Sperry remained somewhat active in eCanada, serving as the Comptroller General for Treian, Aeriala, and Addy Lawrence. He returned to hibernation in November 2011.

In 2012, Sperry made his earliest return to eRepublik, appearing in mid-March after his usual absence. He wrote a series of articles surrounding a "Politics of Hope" and the Dum Spiro Spero campaign he had used as President the previous year. He won the EPIC Presidency in April after then-President Trenton Rendell dropped out of the race. That month, EPIC secured 50% of the seats in Congress. Following his victories with EPIC, Sperry moved to campaign for the Country Presidency. His campaign stemmed from the Alfred Tennyson poem Ulysses, particularly the closing line "To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." He received nominations from EPIC, CPF, CNC, PAQ, and all 5 Norsefire parties. Sperry was re-elected with 62% of the popular vote, the 4th highest election rate in eCanadian history.

Biography

Sperry quickly became involved in Canadian politics before the onset of the Great War of 2009. A self-proclaimed "communist anarchist", Sperry joined the Canadian Social Democrats after a lengthy conversation with then-Party President Nosyt. Sperry remained involved in Canadian politics until September 2009, when he began a lengthy period of two-clicking, only visiting in short bursts over the next 9 months.

Sperry returned to Canadian politics in early June 2010. Despite his lengthy absence, Sperry remained with the majority of the CSD when the party merged with the CNC to form EPIC two months earlier. Eager to return to the political arena, Sperry served as Party President twice more before another retirement in the month of August.

Returning for a third time in April 2011, Sperry increased his involvement in Canadian Politics. He served two more terms as a Congressman and Party President of EPIC, and also served in two Cabinets. He was appointed Vice President in June, and elected President in July 2011. Following his term as President, Sperry again retired to the periphery of Canadian society.

Sperry returned once again in March 2012, and was re-elected Party President of EPIC in April.

Political Career

The Canadian Social Democrats

Sperry was a member of the CSD from July 2009 until the party's merger with EPIC in April 2010. While under the CSD banner, Sperry sought positions within the CSD and in Canadian Congress. After failing to be elected in the Northwest Territories in July 2009, Sperry secured a Congress seat in PEI during the August elections. Sperry received a record 8% of the national vote.

In August 2009, Nosyt announced he did not intend to run for another term as Party President. Then-VPP Duke Leto and Sperry announced their intention to run and entered a 2-horse race. Sperry won the election and appointed Christian Doe to serve as the CSD Vice President. Sperry did not seek re-election in September 2009. He remained with the party as a ghost member until the party merged with EPIC.

The Egalitarian Party of Independent Canadians

Sperry has been a member of EPIC since its founding in April 2010. Able to return to Canadian politics and concerned with EPIC's dwindling membership, Sperry entered a 5-way election for EPIC's Party Presidency in June 2010. Along with two new party members, the election included then vice-president Kronos Q and Sperry's former opponent, Duke Leto.

Because of the extremely close election results, Sperry approached Kronos and requested he continue his role as Party Vice President. The two focused on bolstering EPIC's party image and reversing the membership decline.

Continuing his return to Canadian politics, Sperry ran for Congress in Alberta as one of 25 EPIC Candidates for the June 2010 elections. Sperry's election campaign was successful, and he and 4 other EPIC candidates entered Congress.

Sperry continued to represent Alberta in the July 2010 congress. Along with an EPIC-sponsored member of SPeC, 9 EPIC candidates were elected to the July Congress. While Sperry was reelected to congress and served two terms as Minister of Communication, he did not seek a third appointment to any of these posts.

As in 2009, Sperry became a ghost player at the end of August 2010. Despite his inactivity, he was accidentally nominated for Country President in September, where he received 13.53% of the national vote.

The Path to the Presidency

Sperry returned to activity on April 14, 2011 and quickly placed his candidacy for the Party Presidency. This election marked the first tied race in EPIC's history, and resulted in Frank139's appointment as Party President based on Experience Levels. Like the close election of June 2010, Frank appointed Sperry as his Vice President for the month.

First Term as President

Sperry's first term as President centered mainly around the total invasion of Canada by the ONE alliance. Poland, Indonesia, and Britain occupied all of Canada within 25 minutes of Sperry's election - the result of many days of military defeats preceding Sperry's term. While Canada was not wiped for long, the nation struggled to hold more than 4 regions for the first three weeks of the month. In total, Canada suffered 3 total occupation wipes during this time.

His efforts earned him the reputation of being "the best communicator [Canada has] had in the big chair."[1]

Sperry did not seek reelection, and instead deliberately encouraged candidates Treian and Wally Cleaver to seek the Presidential office.

He received nominations from EPIC, CPF, CNC, PAQ, and all 5 Norsefire parties. Sperry was re-elected with 62% of the popular vote, the 4th highest election rate in eCanadian history.

Military & Foreign Affairs

Sperry's involvement in Foreign Affairs and the Military was limited until 2011. He began, however, by serving briefly as the Ambassador to the United Kingdom after their invasion of Canada in Summer 2009. During Sperry's second return to politics, he sought out the role of Ambassador once again, this time for the United States and Germany. He served as an Ambassador to both Terra nations from May to July 2011, working to improve Canada's relationship with both member nations and the alliance itself.

In an effort to become more involved, Sperry sought military appointments in April 2011. After considering a number of the militias in Canada, he opted to enlist in the CAF, Canada's national army. He served as a Corporal in the Imperial Guard until joining the Independent Legion in January, 2012.
