Talk:Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is an original Region of UK.
Original Region should display its Country Flag (UK Flag in this case), and a region's COA.
As an original region of UK, why is UK Flag constantly replaced by an unofficial Flag (St.Patrick..)?----Hrvat User_talk:Hrvat 01:40, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Northern Ireland has no flag in reality.
The flag up beforehand was a flag offensive to Irish people as it represented the Protestant domination of Northern Ireland.
The Union Jack would be appropriate, but it seems some have problems with it as well for technical reasons.
Therefore, I have put up the St. Patrick's Saltire, which is the part of the Union Jack that represents the Irish part of the UK.
It is not offensive to either side in the Northern Irish argument, and is technically correct. Brian Boru

Dear Brian!
In Reality you are probably correct, but in eRepublik we have a golden rule - the flag has to be of the country that owns the region. So if UK owns the region, it has to be the UK flag. Only eRepublik countries flags are allowed to be put into the region flag place. I personally can understand what you want to do (I also have done similar thing for Croatia regions) but I had realized later that this is confusing for the other people. One day we will maybe change rule mentioned above, but for now, please put the official eRepublik country flag back. Thank you for your understanding. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 16:35, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Andycro, the Flag of the UK was not the flag I was offended by. My problem is with the flags
It was removed by Reprah as it was perceived as incorrect.
My problem is with NIflag.gif and NIcoa.png, both of which use symbolism that are offensive to any Irish person, and were used by the bigoted and sectarian regime that ruled Northern Ireland from 1921 until 1972. I find the use of such symbols deeply offensive, and as such, will not tolerate their use. I am not offended by the use of the Union Jack flag that you put up, but the NIflag.gif and NIcoa.png images must not be used.

Thank you. I believe we agree that Northern Ireland, as an original Region of UK in Erepublik, should display its Country Flag (UK Flag in this case). UK flag added. Thank you for you input.----Hrvat User_talk:Hrvat 07:08, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Apologies to Brian, but issues raised here affect me, too. I gave Scotland its own flag along with most of the Canadian regions, and while I can appreciate the reasoning here I struggle to entertain it. If for staying true to the reality of the game, then why encourage the inclusion of a coat of arms, and images like Swedish Military v3.jpg this? And if for indication, then what purpose does the "country" field serve if not an even more accurate and specific one? ~Rep Yell Citizen1552019 v2.png 08:23, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you Reprah. You have made some excellent improvements in Erepublik Wiki.
However, I feel that 'Conquered region' pages do not meet with 'the standard for editing region pages that have been conquered':
I would like to give a refresher on the standard for editing region pages that have been conquered:
   * Add the conquering country's flag in the flag field
   * Add the original country's flag in the coat of arms field
   * Change the country field to the conquering country.
   * Change the first sentence of the text to say: "Region is a region of Country A, that was conquered by Country B."
   * If the city of the region has a different name in the conquering country's language, feel free to add it as additional information, but do not change it in the template. City names were once meaningful to mayors.
   * For neighboring regions, please remember to add the "former region of" designation if needed.

For an example of all of these things, please see Western Australia. ----Hrvat User_talk:Hrvat 13:45, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
