Greystyoke family

You have written quite a few pages on the Greystoke family... However, these pages do not seem to have any relevance to eRepublik. Fictional articles are fine in the wiki as long as they apply to the game - creating a genealogy for a player is not really in the spirit of the wiki. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 02:26, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

I'm developing a series of fictional articles on ancestors for an ERepublik character currently living in the Canadian Northwest Territories - named Lord Greystoke. My articles are begining to - and will eventually - demonstrate how he - an ancestor of John Clayton III (aka Tarzan) - came to be "black" in appearance. He is biracial. his father was of European ancestry and his mother of African ancestry. I am converting all articles to make sure all begin with a paragraph describing explicit ERepublic connection (to contemporary Lord Greystoke in eCanada. Sound good? --Tomma van den Bosch --TVDB 02:38, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
The wiki is an encyclopedia about the game eRepublik. It is not a place to stretch your creative writing wings (though how much are you taking from Farmer?) Who cares that "Lord Greystoke" is biracial? You don't need to explain it. I think the community could stomach one article, or the explanation in his citizen page. But creating as many pages as you have seems overly excessive and self aggrandizing. Someone from Hungary once tried the same thing and created an entire fictional Hungarian royal family and most of the pages got deleted. You are doing an awful lot of creative work, but I am sorry, these pages are likely to get deleted too. I am just trying to warn you before you get too much in love with the pages. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 02:49, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
Further to your response re: geneologies. I think fictional articles on "fictional" game characters are completely in the spirit of the game. Am I missing something? I thought that was the whole point? I don't get why some longstanding players have created entire fictional narratives of trips, marriages, off-spring and the like (which I love to read, and served as inspiration for my series) and why my articles then seem out of place. Is this a subjective call (i.e. "spirit" if Wiki) or is there some objective criteria. I am not trying to be argumentative here, but I honestly don't get it. Could you explain the distinction. What is reality and what is fiction here? The entire game is fiction. I thought that was the point. I am honestly lost with this and I was honestly just trying to "play" the game in the spirit of the free speech and creativity advertised. Did I miss something? --TVDB 03:16, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
The issue is quantity. Players who have written elaborate fictional back stories have kept it to ONE PAGE. For example - AgentChieftain, Emerick, Dio Brando, PrincessMedyPi, and so many others. Some of Dio Brando's information has gone on to other pages, simply because a religion has been created about him (though DO NOT go that route). Write all you want creatively and elaborately on your citizen page.--QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 03:29, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
OK ... I think I get it now. Quantity. Can you give me a little time to convert - to digest, etc.? How much time? --TVDB 03:56, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes. The pages will not disappear with out a deletion notice being placed on it first. Just remember take a look at the eRepublik:Deletion policy to learn how to mark your pages for deletion wehn you are done. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 04:01, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

A few ideas

Regarding the "family", here's some pages that I consider to be very interesting (how it looks, what information is presented in it and so on):

Also, all the pages that are articles of the fictional relatives can be made as subpages of the citizen page of the main character (and in these subpages, it would be better not to use the default citizen template - create a "genealogy" template or something like that).
Or you can just create a Portal. But that will be more time consuming than just creating "family" pages.

Everyone that wanted to created a complex fictional genealogy gave up for various reasons:

  • not enough determination;
  • not enough imagination;
  • not willing to read information so that their project is improved.

(that does not mean that you will too, but I just wanted you to know that your project is very bold and a long-term project).

I wish you good luck and if you need any help, do not hesitate to ask.

To sum up all of the above, do you need help with anything? --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 12:59, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, Belea. You've given me much to consider. I am scanning all of your referrals and closely reading a few of Wikis from the large Wiki community. It seems I am compelled to express somethings and I am now exploring how best to do it. The world of Wiki opportunities is relatively new to me. It's easy to get carried away with the possibilities. It seems that I want to offer both a kind of breadth and depth here or somewhere or both. Buy that, I mean back through time (history, e.g. alo-historical or quasi-historical genealogy), geography (realistic locations within that alo-historical framework), and alo-historical characters. I'd like the agencies to be historical, the acts predictable and in keeping with the characters, and the motivations to be plausible. So, I am going to allow myself to explore and read for a time and then get started on this again in a day or two. Thanks, again. --TVDB 04:37, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Moved articles

I have moved two articles to your user name space:

If you no longer need the pages or have gleaned all the information you need off of them, please mark them for deletion. Thanks! --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 03:30, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

If I may also suggest another page to be moved:
