PROPOSAL FOR NEW REGION TEMPLATE - AUTUMN 2009

I believe that implementing new region template should be a must in next few weeks. This are my suggestions:

This would leave location and history (mayors, wars, etc.) to be written into the region article. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 14:40, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

The main problem about templates is that we should switch to "new" ones, the ones AC was working on, which are better-looking and should be easier to mantain. The problem is finishing them, preparing them for translation (that will be hard) and moving them to main namespace (that must be done with caution, as it will kill the server for minutes) --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 19:11, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
So it kills the servers, it needs to be done. Translation, big deal.... I don't think "Language" is needed, just remove the field entirely. Also, I think that an automatic link to the page in the game needs to be created. I really like what BGBW did, see his here User:BGBW/Sandbox/Template:testplace Can you build off this? --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 20:36, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

REDESIGN SUMMER 2009

From eRepublik Official Wiki:Bar/Debate 9

Mayors would definitely stay on the region's page, but it shouldn't be on the template. I think the template should be for the things that are up to date. The template is a way to make finding the basic facts about something easy and managed. The collapse thing is cool, but for the small amount of things that actually go under each header, I think that it wouldn't be worth it. I'll be messing around in my sandbox trying for some prototypes. I'll get back when I think I have something. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 09:53, 29 January 2009 (PST)

This is what I have for Template:Region. I don't really know what else we should have on there??? AgentChieftain, perhaps you could format that collapse2 template to fit in the region template. After some pondering, I thought we could make a dropdown that lists the other regions in the country. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 11:02, 29 January 2009 (PST)

NOTICE: Here's my most recent edit of the Template:Region. Tell me what you like and what you don't. Once I fix the problems, I'll apply the same format to some other templates. Also, can someone figure out how to align the resource pictures better to make it look more like columns (rows don't work). -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 12:41, 29 January 2009 (PST)

Resources looks messy, smaller image sizes and proper alignment is needed. The hospital and defence stats could simply be represented by stars.--~✭βƓЪ✭~ 13:14, 29 January 2009 (PST)
I got the stars (good idea). I want to know if there is a way to change the resources thing though; how can I make it say "grain= |" then you input "h", "m", or "n" but I don't know how to put that in to have different outputs for each. Also, I need a new way to show the resources pictures. Need suggestions. Showing them in your sandbox would help. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 17:16, 29 January 2009 (PST)
{{Row|Grain|{}|{{switch: {}| n=None |h=High| m=Medium}} }} Like that?--Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core have a biscuit 08:04, 30 January 2009 (PST)

I made a few adjustments here. Mostly cleaned up the productivity and used eRep's stars. User:BGBW/Sandbox/Template:testplace --~✭βƓЪ✭~ 10:10, 30 January 2009 (PST)

BGBW, I like the stars much better! I think we need to keep this template as short as possible because these pages are usually short. The productivity I am not in love with... I suggest leaving the productivity off the template and as a section on the page. I am also unsure about listing the other regions of the country at the bottom of the template. Since these are short pages, it is going to look really funny on the pages for Romania, Iran, Pakistan, USA... --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 10:28, 30 January 2009 (PST)

Oh and the template should only put the page in the "Region of country" category. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 10:31, 30 January 2009 (PST)
Well the regions part was in Mr.Awesome's template. I also think its best to remove it as not many countries use this template. So I've removed this line and removed the unneeded category. Perhaps making the images for productivity smaller will work better. --~✭βƓЪ✭~ 11:10, 30 January 2009 (PST)
I only think we should make the resource items appear if they are high or medium, as those are what count. IF the region does not have the item in high or medium levels it shouldn't appear. (ok I know that is complicated coding). --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 11:38, 30 January 2009 (PST)
Well the way it is coded at the moment it is just a case of removing the lines that deal with low production. Not too hard and I'm not even that good at this Wikicode malarkey.--~✭βƓЪ✭~ 11:45, 30 January 2009 (PST)

Template:Region prototype

Since we're discussing the changes here, I'd like to bring up a few things.

 1. Why do we need the coats of arms for the countries? It's a nice touch, but some of them aren't scaling correctly, and they have no significance to the game itself. For an example of it scaling poorly, see here.
 2. For the "Regions of ..." section, would you like me to add collapsibility? For countries such as mine, the list of regions can grow excessively long.
 3. For the Hospital and Defense System parts, I think you should use Q. I can make the background of the .pngs used transparent if you want to clean that part up.
 4. Shouldn't there be a section for Congressmen?

I'll respect your desire to make the changes yourself, so I'll bring these up first. If you need a hand with getting Q to work, let me know. - –Dr. AgentChieftain Flag of the Crescent and Star PPP! B / C / D / F / P / S 20:09, 30 January 2009 (PST)

Sorry, I've been out a while. I agree that coat of arms should be taken out. It is supposed to be used to show the old countries flag if the region is occupied, but I think it would be better just to have a section for that kind of thing. Collapsability would be good for that AgentChieftain. Get me the code somehow and I'll put it in. I experimented just a little with the collapse2 template, but I couldn't get it to stay inside the region template. Those stars are are nice whatever your name is. I don't think Q is necessary. The coding was simple enough as is. I like your productivity section BGBW so I'll integrate that. MiniBill, I wanted to have it say "grain |", you say "high" or "medium", then it shows the picture in the correct section. Here's what the productivity code looks like now, courtesy of BGBW's work:

Productivity
colspan=2 style="padding:1px; text-align: center;"|
High
{{#If: {}||}}{{#If: {}||}}{{#If: {}||}}{{#If: {}||}}{{#If: {}||}}
Medium
{{#If: {}||}}{{#If: {}||}}{{#If: {}||}}{{#If: {}||}}{{#If: {}||}}

That's about it. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 21:30, 30 January 2009 (PST)

My last edit: Region. BGBW's productivity section can't work because if you have no high/medium resources, the heading is still there. That is the hardest part. The new mission: MAKE A PRODUCTIVITY SECTION!!! Also, AgentChieftain, I think the collapsable region thing is a good idea. Hopefully you can get it to work since I can't. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 22:23, 30 January 2009 (PST)

I think we're almost done. This is my last edit: Template:Region. Only things that need to be done that I don't know how to do: make the regions section collapsible, and make the resource pictures' backgrounds transparent. This is what I got with trying to make the regions part collapsible:

colspan=2 | <hr style="width:90%;margin:5px auto"/>
<center>
colspan=2 style="class: collapsible; text-align: center; font-size:120%;"|Regions of {country}
colspan=2 style="text-align: center; font-size:100%;"|{{Region/{country} }}
</center>

I am semi-new to wiki editing and I don't know what's wrong. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 09:10, 31 January 2009 (PST)

P.S. I fixed up the productivity section. Tell me what you think of the code. I am sure there is a way to make it less complex. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 09:11, 31 January 2009 (PST)

Is there no way to have it in a table as that did look much neater.--~✭βƓЪ✭~ 10:21, 31 January 2009 (PST)
Better? --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core have a biscuit 05:59, 1 February 2009 (PST)
WOAH! Ok, we have way too much information on the template. Now the template is a total substitute for writing anything on the page. I suggest dropping the neighbors and the other regions. I still think we need to reduce the productivity in size. Just because you can DO something on a template doesn't mean you SHOULD. Remember what it will take to implement this to all of the new pages.
Drop the coat of arms if you can find a better way to integrate the original country.
 1. Shouldn't there be a section for Congressmen?

No, you cannot track back in the game who is the congress member for each region. So there is no way to verify the information. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 15:01, 31 January 2009 (PST)

You can make it so the productivity stays in the template, but the table appears in the article instead of the sidebar.--~✭βƓЪ✭~ 15:48, 31 January 2009 (PST)

"Why do we need the coats of arms for the countries?"
I can think (at this moment) at three countries that have chosen (officially) a Coat of Arms and Anthem - Romania (done by Aty I think), Hungary (done by Francis Hunyadi) and Iran (done by Arymehr). --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 16:08, 31 January 2009 (PST)

After a lot of trial and error and then realising my table had to be put into its own template I got the productivity into table form that works with the new code.--~✭βƓЪ✭~ 08:06, 1 February 2009 (PST)

Template:Region is Complete?

Moved to Template talk:Region/Archives/1#REDESIGN_SUMMER_2009 I believe that the final tweaking is complete and the template is ready for the masses. I think the regions and neighbors should stay, but maybe we should put a vote on it. Once this thing is done. what's the next step to introducing it? -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 13:07, 1 February 2009 (PST)

So you're not going to use my table code?--~✭βƓЪ✭~ 14:05, 1 February 2009 (PST)
The next step is, imho, to modify the parameters to fit thos of the actual Region, as far as possible, so that adapting existing region pages is less a pain in the ass --Mini "Template boy" Bill Italian in the deep core have a biscuit 05:51, 2 February 2009 (PST)
Patience people. We are far from being complete. Honestly, I favor BGBW's version much better. (see my previous discussions on other regions and neighbors = in short templates shouldn't replace pages). We also need to thoroughly discuss usability of the templates. Many users have problems with the simplest of templates - over complicating them so that users have to do more than just enter a few words won't be acceptable in the wiki.--QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 07:07, 2 February 2009 (PST)
I think we should make the background of the natural resources transparent before we finalize the template. The white block in the template isn't very nice.
Also, I think we should wait for all of our planned changes to be finished, and then implement them systematically to control the job queue. - –Dr. AgentChieftain Flag of the Crescent and Star PPP! B / C / D / F / P / S 07:18, 2 February 2009 (PST)

Seconds after I made that post, I took another look and saw how incomplete it was. I have only ever had time to do anything on my iPhone so I couldn't really edit. I'll have more time tomorrow. -- Citizen1257373.jpg Mr. Awesome | Talk | 12:43, 2 February 2009 (PST)

New Region template/

I have created a new template for the Region that is both upto date and encompasses alot of information. Alot of the template is directly from the old template so we would not have to change as much information. I also incorporated Mr. Awesome's Hospital and DS style. Here is a link to it User:Ghaduo/Sandbox2. The only part not finished is the 'neighbors' section, when using an odd number of neighbors it drops the last entry and uses the even number. Have any suggestions or comments, let me know. User_talk:Ghaduo

I appreciate your work, but I have to say this template has too much information. If everything goes into the template then why even have a page? Why not just link it to the profile page in eRep and be done with it. A template should have BASIC info, the main purpose of the page is the ARTICLE. I believe that BGBW created a simpler region template a month or so ago, that I prefer MUCH better. We also need to make sure that any templates allow computability with what we already have. We have over 500 region pages. I cannot imagine how much information would need to be updated if we used this template. -1 --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 01:33, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
I have gone back and edited this template to be completely compatible with the original. If it were to replace the current one, none of the old pages would look any different. Anybody who uses the new template could update the information and include the new features. The template covers most of the current information. From what I have seen, most pages use the remainder of the page to fill in the history of the region, congressmen, mayors, important events like occupations. I removed the neighbors section until I am able to fix it. Here is a link to the current version if it were used with a current layout, User:Ghaduo/Sandbox. User_talk:Ghaduo

Conquered Regions

Mayor, not Major :)

Remove mayor, add congressman

Remove mayor, add nothing

+1 - Based on the design of the congress system there is no way to verify what region a person is "representing" (see conversation in the Bar). They are also a [omitted] to maintain. --QJ Lincoln 16:16, 5 December 2008 (EET)

+1 The wigs really need their own bot to handle statistics automatically. - –Dr. AgentChieftain Flag of the Crescent and Star PPP! B / C / D / F / P / S 00:38, 6 December 2008 (EET)

Do nothing

We would like to preserve the mayor information (even if they are on separate pages). Also, our team is taking under consideration solutions to handle statistics automatically. Unfortunately, we cannot offer you any promises when a solution for this will be implemented. --Admin 05:56, 6 December 2008 (EET)

The mayor information would be preserved as historical data as it appears as lists or tables on many region pages. We are talking specifically about the Region Template that has fields for Mayor and Party and removing those for now. --QJ Lincoln 16:38, 6 December 2008 (EET)

DOESN'T WORK

This template as it is presented on the Page DOES NOT WORK! There is some code missing. Also, the code to create the link back to the game is wrong, regions are not by number, they are by name. The template looks ok on the old pages, but if you want to use the new features, you are SOL (shit outta luck)--QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 20:11, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Ok, fixed the code on the page. Still needs someone to figure out how to get the template to link back to the region in the game. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 20:16, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
Better now? --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 21:09, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Region link is broken if region got's more than 1 word in it's name (like here: Southern Finland). eRep binds words together with "-" mark. This should be fixed if someone has skills to do so. As far as I know creating link from regions name won't work... --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk to me! 11:48, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

I have made following changes to this template:

 • Hospitals / Defense systems shows the number of them in the region
