William Shafer was a citizen of USA, Indonesia, Singapore and Australia.

Often a controversial character, it was said that nobody really knows exactly what Shafer is up to, but what is known is that he's been going around the world visiting many different countries.

A small group of citizens have dubbed him "The Shafernator", making a reference to the old Terminator movies.

Shafer's Past

United States

Shafer started out in Michigan, USA on August 1st, 2008. After joining the US Army, he quickly made his way up the ranks until he became the General of the Army, barely two months later. As general of the Army, he made reform after reform, making many essential changes, including the perfection of the communication and distribution. Much of what he did was on his own and without the endorsement of the President of the United States, but the changes were never undone, only added to further.

After becoming Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Shafer started to get bored. After Operation: French Toast was over, Shafer resigned and left for Russia. His time in Russia was short and there is no significant history from that era of his life.

Singapore

When Singapore was released into The New World, Shafer headed there with a few friends. He became the first Minister of Defense of Singapore and built the military of Singapore. About two months in, John Jay decided to come and be active in the military. Shafer made him a commander of one of the elite military units. At this time, Shafer was also a Party president. Needing to fight in another country, he made a deal with John. Shafer was going to lead a military unit in battle, due to his higher damage, and when he returned, John Jay would return the Party President position to him. However, Shafer was backstabbed. John never did return the party to him. William didn't think much of it then, however.

The President, Arbryn, decided not to run for a third term, and the parties were all trying to decide who to endorse. Shafer and Jay both had Presidential aspirations, so they made yet another deal; they would have an election on the party forums and the winner would be the nominee. William won by a single vote, but John didn't like it. Instead, he nominated himself, and so Shafer removed him from his military position and changed the password to the military organization. John Jay saw this and began accusing Shafer of stealing the military funds. Shafer, who had to take a few hours away from eRepublik after fighting in a battle to aid a friend of his, came back to Singapore and was immediately confronted by everybody; John had convinced them that Shafer stole the money. Arbryn had fired Shafer from the government before he even knew what was going on, and as soon as he was able to get back to eRepublik, he gave her the password to the army organziation. Singapore had "Won"; they "convinced Shafer to return what he stole."

He spent weeks trying to convince them of the truth, but none would believe him. He eventually gave up and agreed with everything they said to stop the harassing PM's. That is, until President John Jay suddenly disappeared to South America with the entire treasury of Singapore.

Australia

Not long after Singapore, he headed to Australia. The Aussies were very welcoming to him. Taking a break from eRepublik, he had decided to two-click for about four months, occasionally writing articles here and there; chatting in the Australian IRC. However, one of the Beta-Aussies asked him to help with the military.

So he spent the first four months, the time in which he was two-clicking, helping a few people with restructuring small sections of the military, then when he decided to actually join the military, he was made a Squad Leader in the DropBears, Australia's best. It wasn't long before he was promoted to leader of the Dropbears, and shortly after that, leader of the Australian Military and one of the first 40 Icon Field Marshal.jpg Field Marshals of Australia.

Two or three months went by, and then suddenly Shafer resigned from his position. However, on the day of his resignation, he had a real-life situation: Power outage. He wasn't able to get on eRepublik to hear that he resigned. It was later figured out that the Prime Minister had fired him while making it look like a resignation.
