HeadlessChicken.jpg I think the Spring cleaning has been successful, many stubs have been removed and notices and warnings placed. From now on the Warning template will be used consistently so be don't get a back log of stubs like we have now. We also need editors to take the intitiative to help the ENTIRE wiki by dealing with these pages with notices. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 03:14, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

The way I read the statement, the writer meant to say that Iran and Indonesia had empires that consisted of regions in multiple countries. It is still an opinionated sentence, because, as we see from Indonesia's holding of Western Australia, that era is not necessarily over. --Ryoushi 12:50, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Guiding New Users...

I have updated the welcome message: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/eRepublik:Bar/February2010#New_Welcome_Message I hope that it will be implemented. However I have noticed something else... Special:RequestAccount I find this severely lacking and should provide more information to the user about the expectations of the wiki and what it is about.

I think the sign up page should have some of the following information:

  • ONLY CITIZEN ACCOUNTS CAN HAVE WIKI ACCOUNTS....
  • The Wiki is an encyclopedia about eRepublik written by eRepublik citizens. It's main goal is to be factual, neutral, and to provide information to the community.
  • The Wiki has a series of policies that must be followed but we also have a series of help pages and community members to aid you.
  • The main language of the wiki is English, we welcome translations, but contributors should have a firm grasp of the English language to comply with policies and guidelines.

Please let me know what else you all think should be there. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 17:54, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

That Damned Transparency Dot Line XD

So every time you display an image with trasparency, e.g:
, it shows that silly dotted line behind it. It's really quite annoying, and it can make formatting of images look a bit awkward... surely a way to turn it off, or is there a reason for it to be there for ever onwards? What is up with Japan?

Someone first went around saying that Japan was a member of EDEN, and now claims Japan is a member of brolliance? Wha-? The Brolliance (or SHIELD), is Can, USA, Aus and recently Ireland, not Japan. Who's been doing this? Icon-Canada.png Auk Rest 02:19, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Um, Japan is in the Brolliance. See the presidential article here [1] which mentions it in passing. Here is the article that first announced Japan joined. [2].
It is interesting how it has been almost ignored in the US media, but Japan is in the Brolliance whether you know it or not.--Martin23230 12:00, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
Very interesting. Did Japan just vote on this without the rest of SHIELD knowing this? Jbdivinus is the supreme commander and he resides in Canada, of which I haven't heard any news from his newspaper. Strange. Icon-Canada.png Auk Rest 23:05, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Question about alliances

Question: Does "Friend of a Friend Cancellation" only apply if country A attacks country B's core region? Say both have an mpp with country C, then country A declares war on B, and attack a non-core region. Would the mpp with C be canceled?

Answer: No, the "Friend of a Friend Cancellation applies also when a non original region is attacked.

Question: I own a chat room, I want to know what happens to me and my moderators if my room becomes "national chat room". Will i still be admin? What happens to my moderators? Will they be replaced by the congressman?

Blocks

Please do not block IPs in the future.... the majority of the accounts on the Wiki have a common server IP associated with them... 127.0.0.1 - See screen shot: http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/257/geez.jpg - My account (Belea2008) was also blocked several times because of this. I have no clue why the majority of the accounts get associated with that IP. --Belea2008 13:29, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

My mistake, sorry for the inconvenience. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 13:32, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Belea, I know why it does that: Its the IP Value a computer uses when referring to itself (i know i didnt explain that perfectly - sorry about that). Long story short: Previewing a page, causes it to check what it has already written - and uses this IP address to do so. Thus, when this IP gets banned - noone (other than the SysOps) can use the Wiki --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day to Timeoin 13:34, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Yep,It was my first time being a sufferer on this issue. Thanks to Belea2008 , I got my account back. So if what he says is true^ , don't ban it in future. -- Wiki bureaucrat.png Daniel Dimow Talk B / C / P / S Icon-Bulgaria.png 13:36, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
It is true. 127.0.0.1 is the IP used for a localhost IP address (couldn't think of that name a minute ago). --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day to Timeoin 13:41, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Is there any way to avoid the situation.... as in the MediaWiki server associated the real IP of the user, instead of that common 127.0.0.1 - thus allowing us to block a real IP of a vandal? --Belea2008 13:55, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Presidential race question

Only Top5 candidates enter the presidential race. But do supporting parties count?

Example: Party A - 200 members Party B - 150 members Party C - 100 members

Party A - nominates player X Party B - nominates player Y and he is supported by Party C too.

If they would be the 5th candidate, who would go to the election? X because he was nominated by the party with more members, or Y who is nominated by a smaller party, but with supporting parties they would have a higher member count?

ANSWER: No, supporting parties members do not count. In the example given, Y is officially supported only by members of party B. --Belea2008 15:57, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Is it from the country, which provides the citizenship of the new-born citizen? Or is it from the country, which currently ownes the region the citizen is born in?

ANSWER: From the country which provides the citizenship.

WTF is with the Region Links?

Suddenly they all have sprouted extra words.

For instance Northern Territory, the link to the in-game region now reads Territory Northern Territory.

Who's been stuffing around with the Region template? And can they put it BACK please? --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day to Timeoin 10:40, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

It's cause URL's can't have spaces. Like in this case template creates this kind of code [http://www.erepublik.com/en/region/Northern Territory Northern Territory]. First space marks that URL ends and name of it starts (in this case space after "Northern" marks that url ends and name starts). But they are working on it (Template_talk:Region) --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk to me! 11:35, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Another question about Congress

Specifically about the Congress of Australia page. The question is to do with Political Parties. Should it mention the political party that they are elected under, or should it be changed if they leave that party and move/return to a different party. Personally, i think it should be the party they are elected under. I leave this to the community though. --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day to Timeoin 05:10, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

I think that it should be written party, under which they were elected. --Icon-Poland.png Caroline au Marymont|Talk to me
The party they were elected under at that time --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 23:26, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks to both of you. I thought so as well (and is what I have been doing with that page) --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day to Timeoin 02:28, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

why can't there be something on the page to show what party they really represent - extra column or such? - Bronzephoenix

Quick Answer: Because it already takes a few hours each month to keep updated, without adding an extra colum for one or two people. Long Answer: As I posted on the Australian forums in regards to this question, its because they were elected under THAT particular party. If you run as a Senator of AI, THAT is the party you run under. Not the ERA. (You know, Game Mechanics and all that). --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day to Timeoin 07:39, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
I agree that it should be the party that the person is elected under. It creates to much work and confusion to list every the party the person has come from. Especially when people swap parties as often as players like Timeoin. -Viado Celtru
I have changed parties 4-5 times in my 11 months of playing the game! I think its more the people that run as a party each month, then go back to their minor party. (Its really not fair to the top 5 party) --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day to Timeoin 08:27, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Yet at moment it not really reflecting what party these players really represent. due to erepublic mechanics low level parties run in smaller states under banner of larger party and in all their newspaper ads showing that ERA or ANI candidate is running under AI or PAPP banner but they really ERA,ANI candidate and to vote for them. why not make it party responsibility to update their candiate info in wiki. If they don't then they go under party they stood for. Bronzephoenix 12.59PM 20 April 2010

The current standard is to have the candidate run under a particular party in order to try congress. If the candidate had to broker a deal with a different party just to get recognition and candidacy establishment, the issue is not why party lists the candidate's name on the article, but why the candidate had to leave the party just to get recognition. It is the responsibility for the neutral point of view of this wiki to fairly and concisely represent exactly what is displayed in the game, describing other minor details are secondary. Yes, but what evidence do you have for the change? I would expect a reference for each change... --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 13:18, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Me, QJ? (it was under my post) I have been going by the congressional elections results pages. Speaking of which though, Should I put the links to said page as a reference on that page. Or is it acceptable just to assume that people know how to find the results section. --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day to Timeoin 03:25, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
For example, bob is elected under the "Great Party" but he only switched to that party because it was in the top 5. he is really a member of the "Not So Great Party". How do you document that? You can't unless Bob writes a newspaper or forum post about it. Don't over complicate things. Keep it simple. Congress lists are historical records of what happened during the election. If Bob wants to write on his user page that he ran under the "Great Party" to get elected and then switched back to "Not So Great Party" then that is fine. Actually, I question congress lists in the wiki at all because they are kept in the game. It seems like a lot of work when you could just link back to the game. example --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 16:08, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Party names change with time, QJ. For instance, in Australia, there was once a party known as the Advance Australia Alliance. That party has since been changed in-game to the True Blue Party. In-game, any senators elected from this party would not be recognised, as it was changed to the True Blue Party. A more recent example would be the National Pirate Party > Heart of Cerridwen Voeland examples. --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day to Timeoin 08:58, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
The wiki considers those to be different parties. Help:What_to_do_if...#What_to_do_when_a_party_changes_its_name.3F. If you are elected under the True Blue Party, in May, and it changes its name to "True Green Party". No change. You make the True Blue party "historical" and create a "True Green Party". You do not go and change all of those "True Blue Party" links. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 21:23, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Im not suggesting that you do so, QJ. Im merely pointing out the purpose having the congress list can have, as it would no longer show up "in-game", and many people would not think to look at historical parties to find that information out? --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day 09:44, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Another Quick Question.

Two citizens: Aussie_Bloke and Aussie Bloke - these pages both link to the first page in-game. Aussie Bloke wants a page made - would this be a disambigulation? Ill do it, just wanted to check i am doing the right thing before i do. --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day to Timeoin 08:27, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

Since we don't have DAB pages or categories (I think...) a simple For the character Aussie Bloke, click here. link should do the trick on each other's articles. It seems so. There is no logical pattern between old forums thread ID:s and new forums thread ID:s. I suggest we leave this job for creators of pages. Task

We need to clean up the Lonely pages Special:LonelyPages. Pages end up here if they do not link to another page or another page does not link to it. These are some guidelines to make them less lonely...

  • Review the page and what it links to in the game. Is there anything else you can write or link to the page?
  • If it is a company
    • Check to see if the company still exists. If it has a new name, put a delete template on it. :D
  • If it is a citizen, check to see if the citizen is still alive.
    • If they are dead, does their wiki page tell anything that ISN'T found on their in-game eRepublik profile? If not, put a delete template on it.
    • If they are dead and there is some interesting information on the wiki page. Check to see if they have user page. Put a link to the citizen page on the user page. If there is no wiki account, put {{Template:Web}} on the page.
    • If they are still alive, check to see if they have a user account. Put a link to the citizen page on the user page.
    • If they are still alive, and don't have a wiki user account, put {{Template:Web}} on the page.

Let me know if you have any questions. Lets try to get this wiki "clean" before V2 is deployed. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 00:53, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Adding Editnotice to eRep Wiki

I'd like to propose adding EditNotices to our Wiki pages. It is a common tool for inexperienced editors to give them one last chance to follow directions before editing or posting on a discussion page, such as not to post POV or materials that would violate the Laws we have on here to something as simple as remind people to use the four tildes to sign their posts on discussion pages. Reference: wikipedia:Wikipedia:Editnotice On that page it also discloses how to implement this on MediaWiki packages. Thanks. Icon-Australia.png - Jameson L. Establishing Proper Talk Page Guidelines

I'd like to establish a set of standardized guidelines to follow on article, project, and userspace discussion pages. Again, this follows the English Wikipedia wikipedia:WP:TPG. It is not to attack anyone in particular, but I believe that in order to encourage continued collaboration on expanding the number of users means more editors will need this along the way. Before discussion pages are further hijacked, let's set a proper guideline for future reference to keep editors and staff level-headed and objective. Icon-Australia.png - Jameson L. Cake.png 22:35, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

We do not have different versions of the wiki in different languages because we currently do not have the dedicated user base to maintain parallel wikis. So we use the translated versions of pages. Most of the main pages about playing the game have been translated into the majority of languages of the players of eRepublik. Additionally, this wiki is based on the contributions of individual users. If a user doesn't want to translate and maintain pages in Urdu, then we don't have pages in Urdu. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 23:22, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

So my question is: Which country get the income tax from this kind of worker, country A where is located the citizen or country B where is located the company?

MiniBill, that was a change I did with MassEditRegex in order to get rid of that pesky redirect. --Belea2008 19:30, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

New modules

Today I have finally starting to do a review of what did our dear admins wrote in insiders. Honestly, I have just finish review of February issues and count that 24 new articles will have to be created. And this is only February insiders. So, I have a question for you... Should I create a large User:Andycro/Sandbox‎ with all changes that will have to be done, and all new articles that will have to be implemented? If yes, I will create it in next few days so you could continue doing your job, I will only need your help with "improving" articles when I finally list all of the articles that will have to be implemented. Articles will be implemented when we see (and copy to file, upload the files to the wiki, and than add that file to that coresponding article xD) how will this new features look. While reviewing, I will also upload all files that admins presented in insiders. I know, I wrote a wall of text, but I would like to here your thoughts on this as new modules will be soon implemented (I hope)? --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 18:02, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

V2 or what?

Will Admin(s) name this implementation of new modules V2 version? So we can all use this frase. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 18:02, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Template:Product

Is anyone interested in improving Product template as new products will have different images for each quality? --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 18:22, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

I don't think this is worthwhile because there are different combination to get the quality with some items. I think we are putting the cart before the horse. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 20:22, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Naming policy

I would like to address, and possibly add it to the policy, when creating a page, e.g. British Army you shouldn't put British Army (United Kingdom) until there is a second, e.g., British Army (Ireland) then a disambiguation page should be created on the British Army page? - Abedecian ~ Flag-UK.jpg Talk to me and you get cake! Cake.png 19:11, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

In theory: Yes, no need to point out the country if the "army" in this case only exists in one country. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 19:38, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Agreed with Andycro. You can easily divide up the British army into British, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and any other division you could want or think of, all on the same page, by using headings. --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day 21:40, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
What about something more ambiguous, like a party name? - Abedecian ~ Flag-UK.jpg Talk to me and you get cake! Cake.png 22:52, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
You mean like, say, the Liberal Party of Australia? :) --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day 02:13, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
I was thinking more, e.g. The Republikan Party is created, it doesn't have to have a (United states) on it until lets say Canada has a The Repulikcan Party, then the orgianal moved to The Republikan Party (United states), A disambiguation page created at The Republikan Party and The Republikan Party (Canada) - Abedecian ~ Flag-UK.jpg Talk to me and you get cake! Cake.png 02:19, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, that is a Disambigulation. They are both (as far as I know) Separate pages. You would have a disambig page, and one party would be Republikan Party (USA), the other one Republikan Party (Canada) --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day 03:44, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
So I draw to a point that before a disambiguation page is needed, there is no need for a specific reference term in brackets - Abedecian ~ Flag-UK.jpg Talk to me and you get cake! Cake.png 04:02, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
Naming Policy should mean everything is standardized. If you use British/Great Britain for one thing, then United Kingdom needs to be dropped. On one hand you have British Army, but you also have Military Decorations, Medals and Insignia of the United Kingdom. Pick one naming convention and stick with it. Icon-Australia.png - Jameson L. Tai talk/Deputy Marshal of the eAustralian DropBears 23:31, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Military Decorations, Medals and Insignia of the United Kingdom not my article :P, and the British army is its official name, like The Royal Navy, as for that one, Moved - Abedecian ~ Flag-UK.jpg Talk to me and you get cake! Cake.png 00:04, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
I'm going to go ahead and object moving the article. One "Ministry of Defense" is common to just about every single country in the eWorld. I will move to propose that Ministry of Defence be moved to British Ministry of Defence and have Ministry of Defence be a generic DAB article for all of the various ministries around the world. Icon-Australia.png - Jameson L. Tai talk/Deputy Marshal of the eAustralian DropBears 04:04, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
I smell a potential Disambigulation here :) --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day 04:11, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
Sorry I wasn't clear, DAB = Disambig in MediaWiki. Icon-Australia.png - Jameson L. Tai talk/Deputy Marshal of the eAustralian DropBears 04:11, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
Ministry of Defence is a unique name as it is spelt with a c not a s, uniqe to United Kingdom. - Abedecian ~ Flag-UK.jpg Talk to me and you get cake! Cake.png 13:36, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
Actually Australia spells it with a c as well - we call the Military chief the Minister of Defence, not Minister of Defense :) (lets argue semantics though! Its fun :D) --Icon-Australia.png Timeoin| Say G'Day 14:22, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
But there is nothing put anything the Australian Ministry of Denfence, so until there is... - Abedecian ~ Flag-UK.jpg Talk to me and you get cake! Cake.png 14:28, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
To review: If there are ingame Party named Cool Party in Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, UK, USA and on wiki there is only article with Cool Party in UK, there is no need to create DAB article as it won't lead to only one page... DAB pages are created for two or more articles. Until people from Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia and USA create articles for their own partis, there is no point for creating Cool Party (UK). But, I do not believe that this would be a mistake to do something like that infront to make preparation for the people from these countries to easier create their own party pages. And Federal Social Democrat Party is nice example for DAB party article. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 21:34, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
